Chapter 1995: Chapter 1997: Appearing Means Certain Death

Cheng Yaozu dropped Cheng Su and the others off at home and then hurried off again—according to him, he missed his daughter and had to rush back.

Cheng Su didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, so she tugged him back and said she’d go over tomorrow to pay her respects to the old man and all that.

"Alright, you’re going to be living here long-term anyway, there’ll be plenty of time. You’re close to home here too, just a few blocks away. Come over whenever you’ve got nothing to do." Cheng Yaozu added, "Oh right, now that you’re here, you can finally take back the company stuff."

Cheng Su glared at him. What kind of line was that—she’d just arrived and he was already trying to dump things on her?

Cheng Yaozu chuckled, made a gesture, said a quick goodbye to Father Cheng and the others, and left.

"This Young Master Yaozu really does know how to talk," Mother Cheng clicked her tongue.

"He’s just full of hot air," Cheng Su said helplessly. Seeing luggage piled everywhere in the house, she said to her parents, "You two rest a bit first, I’ll clear things up in here."

Otherwise they wouldn’t even have a place to sit.

"Let’s all do it together. We had beds to sleep in on the train over, we’re not tired. More people makes things easier," Father Cheng couldn’t bear to let his daughter do everything herself.

Cheng Su said, "Dad, I know this place better than anyone. I know where everything should go. It’s fine, you two rest first." As she spoke, she tied up her hair and started unpacking.

Fortunately they’d given away a lot of clothes and such; otherwise there would’ve been even more luggage. What was left at home now were all their daily-use items, plus Xiao Qi’s personal things.

After resting for a while, Father Cheng and the others also joined in the unpacking, and even Fei Yin stepped in to help, which made Cheng Su feel quite embarrassed.

But Fei Yin just laughed and said, "Look how much weight I’ve put on these past few months. If I don’t move around, I’ll turn into a little pig!"

"Where are you fat? Not even a little. That’s good fortune!" Mother Cheng cut in. "You young people, don’t keep going on about losing weight. It’s bad for your health. Health is what matters most!"

Fei Yin and Cheng Su exchanged a look—the older generation’s nagging had started again.

It was true that more hands made light work. With everyone pitching in, they quickly got the living room tidied up; things were put in order and everything looked bright and clear.

Since they’d already started, Cheng Su simply grabbed a rag and gave the whole place a thorough cleaning inside and out.

It wasn’t until late afternoon, toward evening, that she finally collapsed onto the sofa, unwilling to move. All that tidying and cleaning was honestly more exhausting than running ten kilometers; her back and waist were aching.

"Looks like I’ll have to hire a live-in housekeeper. This cleaning stuff is way too tiring; it’s not human work!" Cheng Su said to Fei Yin.

Fei Yin agreed wholeheartedly. "Exactly, especially for a wealthy wife like you—who ever sees you doing the cleaning yourself?"

Cheng Su gave her a playful shove, smiling in mock annoyance.

"Oh right, the day after tomorrow I’m going back to the Capital for a bit. Everything okay on your end?" Fei Yin asked.

"No problem, go ahead," Cheng Su said. "It’s been months and there’s still no sign of her. No idea where she is! The Shen Family has spent so much money and still hasn’t managed to find her. She’s hiding pretty deep."

"If someone is determined to hide, they can always stay hidden. Otherwise, how do you think there are so many fugitives still on wanted lists after ten-plus years?" Fei Yin wasn’t surprised.

Cheng Su said, "Is she going to hide for the rest of her life?"

Fei Yin replied, "That depends on her choice. Honestly, if she just stays hidden and never shows herself, she might actually live. But the moment she shows up, she won’t survive."

Cheng Su fell silent. She understood what Fei Yin meant.

There were plenty of people who wanted Chiang Qing dead, the Shen Family even more so. Once Chiang Qing appeared in public and was exposed, she’d be as good as dead.

So by staying hidden, her life could technically go on—but which path would Chiang Qing choose?
