“Don’t be nervous, isn’t there still half a month before the competition?

Half a month is enough for me to get into great shape; just you wait and see.”

“I’m not in the mood for jokes.” Mu Xiaoyao’s face darkened, his gaze serious.

“I’m not joking with you either.” Baili Xia stuck out her tongue.

Knowing he was really angry, she shrank her neck and her voice grew much quieter.

“The most important thing is, I know Uncle really values this competition.

What he values, I care about even more.

Brother, do you understand?”

Mu Xiaoyao scoffed coldly: “You can care, but there’s no need to participate personally.”

“I care, that’s why I want to participate personally.

It’s what Uncle really wants, and I want to strive to achieve it for him.”

People like Brother who have never been in love wouldn’t understand.

She pursed her lips slightly, “If you ever meet a man you really, really like, then you’ll understand how I feel.”

Mu Xiaoyao really wanted to slap the back of her head, a man she really really likes—was she talking about herself?

He’s perfectly fine, why would he like men?

But, as soon as the irritation came, it went away.

Alright, last time she asked him if he liked men, he didn’t deny it, so this girl really took it to heart that he liked men.

Whether it’s a misunderstanding or not, it doesn’t affect their interaction.

“Did you really convince Uncle?” He still felt it was unlikely, how could Uncle agree?

“Yes, I convinced him.” Baili Xia nodded vigorously, looking earnest.

“Uncle also said he would figure out a way to ensure my safety during the competition.”

Mu Xiaoyao didn’t say anything more, gave her another look, and slowly started driving.

Since even Uncle agreed, what more could he say?

Uncle said he could keep her safe; he must have some plan.

How could he not trust what Uncle says?

The car began driving along the mountain roads again.

It wasn’t until Mu Xiaoyao focused on driving and ignored her that Baili Xia finally let out a deep breath in relief.

She had managed to deceive him; if she repeated the same words to Uncle, this would surely work.

For instance, she’s now told Brother that Uncle agreed.

Later, in front of Uncle, she’ll say Brother has a way to keep her safe.

Uncle trusts Brother so much, of course, he wouldn’t question further.

She really needed to applaud her own cleverness; who else could think of such a smart plan?

The Eight Big Families’ competition, she had to participate, had to try her best to win this final match for Uncle.

The golden trophy in Uncle’s room couldn’t be taken away because Uncle wouldn’t allow it.

“By the way, why does Uncle seem to especially respect Great-Uncle?”

Before reaching Mu Mansion, driving on the mountain road, the bored Baili Xia started chattering again.

“Brother, I haven’t been at Mu Mansion for long and don’t understand the past at all.

Was the relationship between Great-Uncle and Uncle exceptionally good in the past?”

“I don’t know.” Mu Xiaoyao didn’t look at her, just stared blandly ahead at the road.

“I was very young when Great-Uncle passed away; I don’t know much about their relationship.”

He paused, then continued, “Maybe, you can ask Elder Brother, although Elder Brother might not tell you, and might not know much either.”

“Why?” Is Great-Uncle really a taboo in the Mu family?

Why can’t I ask?
