If it were for his own use, Nangong Xu certainly wouldn’t care whether the medicine was exceptionally good or just average.

As long as it could heal his wounds, any medicine would do, since he didn’t mind scars anyway.

But the medicine for Baili Xia was different.

Naturally, she had to be given the best.

…

The courtyard’s main gate was tightly shut, the dark wooden doors being old-fashioned, exuding a unique sense of mystery.

Mu Xiaojiu walked over, pushed open the courtyard gate, and went inside.

There was nobody in the yard at the moment, and although it was deserted, it was very clean, showing that the owner placed particular importance on tidiness.

Before reaching the main hall of the master house, Wen Yu had already come out to meet him.

“You’re here.”

Noting the traces of unease on Wen Yu’s face, Mu Xiaojiu simply nodded slightly, his brows briefly knitting together.

“He is very angry, what’s going on?” Wen Yu asked.

Mu Xiaojiu did not answer and cast a glance to the side as if searching for something.

“He’s not here; he’s currently in the study,” Wen Yu said softly, seeing through his thoughts.

“Um.” Mu Xiaojiu replied gravely this time, seemingly responding to that person.

Just as he turned to leave, Wen Yu hurriedly spoke again.

“Bow your head, admit your mistake, and all will be well.”

Mu Xiaojiu came to a halt, pondered for a moment, and then said, “I will see him first.”

After speaking, he turned a corner and headed toward the study.

In a short while, Mu Xiaojiu arrived at the entrance to the study.

The door of the study was tightly closed.

Although he knew that he was inside, Mu Xiaojiu did not push the door and enter directly.

He extended his finger and tapped gently on the thick wooden door a few times, then stood still, waiting for a response from within.

However, after a long while, there was no response from the person inside.

Mu Xiaojiu’s brows furrowed lightly; he extended his finger again and knocked on the door.

Inside the study, there was still no reply.

If it were any other time, who would dare show such disrespect to Mu Xiaojiu?

But here, Mu Xiaojiu displayed unprecedented patience.

Even with no response from inside, he continued to stand there, quietly waiting.

At that moment, Wen Yu also followed: “Haven’t you gone in?”

Mu Xiaojiu nodded, acknowledging her.

“Let me go in and check first, sigh.”

After a sigh, Wen Yu circled around Mu Xiaojiu and approached the door of the study.

She gently turned the handle, pushed open the door, and went inside.

After entering, Wen Yu closed the door behind her, making the sounds inside completely inaudible.

A few minutes passed, and the door opened; Wen Yu came out.

She looked at Mu Xiaojiu, her eyes full of pity.

It seemed that he had no intention of letting Mu Xiaojiu enter the study.

“He wants you to go to the ancestral hall,” Wen Yu finally said, as expected.

Hearing her words, there wasn’t a trace of surprise on Mu Xiaojiu’s face, as if he had already anticipated this outcome.

“I have some words that I need to speak with him,” Mu Xiaojiu insisted, moving slightly closer to the door.

Wen Yu hurriedly stepped in front of him, blocking his path.

Her right hand unconsciously raised and rested upon the back of Mu Xiaojiu’s left hand, gently patting.

“Go to the ancestral hall first. Look for him later. He’s currently furious; seeking him out now would not yield a positive outcome.”

Mu Xiaojiu hesitated for a moment, then finally stepped back, his hand leaving Wen Yu’s palm.

After contemplating for a short time, Mu Xiaojiu gave a faint nod and turned to leave.

Indeed, to him, Mu Xiaojiu understood very well that it would be hard to convince him of anything, especially in a moment of anger.

However, there were some words that he simply had to convey.

But now, it seemed, was not the time.
