Be Gentle, My Master
Chapter 1199
Mu Xiaoyao’s “Mmm” caused Baili Xia’s heart to jump into her throat.
Just minutes ago, she stiffly rejected the old master’s request, yet in the blink of an eye, she agreed to let Mu Ziying take her to school.
With such a stark contrast, how could the old master not be angry?
As expected, when Baili Xia turned her head to look at the old master, she saw his complexion turn ashen, his breathing somewhat hurried.
Just as Baili Xia was about to say something to soothe him, she caught a glimpse of Ning Anran reaching out a hand, gently tugging at the old master’s clothes.
Clearly, Ning Anran also noticed the old master was angry.
Fearing he would stand up for her, she quickly pulled on his clothes, pleading with him not to speak.
The old master glanced at Ning Anran, his eyes filling with appreciation and compassion.
Soon, Mu Ziying also finished eating, and after a hasty farewell to the old master, the three of them left the house together.
It was only after they had gone that the old master turned his body, picked up Ning Anran’s hand, and held it in his palm.
“An Ran, you are very sensible. It’s my fault for acknowledging you so late,” he said.
“They simply haven’t accepted you yet.
Give it some time, they will adapt eventually.”
“Just like Xiaxia, at first everyone was against her, but look how well they get along now.”
“You don’t have to worry, just treat this place as your home.”
Ning Anran listened silently, continuously nodding her head.
It was evident that the old master sincerely cared for her, just as he had cared for Baili Xia before.
She never imagined that coming to the Mu family would bring such a huge change to her life.
Now, she suddenly had a grandfather who was so kind to her.
Yet, her heart remained heavy.
No matter how good her grandfather was, he wasn’t what she wanted.
The man she longed for, how much could he understand?
…
Baili Xia and Mu Ziying got into Mu Xiaoyao’s car, and with a press of the pedal, Xiaoyao drove away from the gates of the Mu family estate.
As soon as they got into the car, Mu Ziying, sitting in the back, couldn’t help but burst out.
“That Ning Anran, who is she?
I could tell she’s no good just by looking at her.”
“Claiming to be Baili Yang’s granddaughter, who knows if she’s just popped up from somewhere, definitely an imposter.”
Baili Xia hurried to stop her, turning to look at Mu Ziying in the back seat, saying, “This matter has only been discussed within the family, it hasn’t been made public yet.”
“Don’t go spreading it around carelessly to let others hear; it might lead to unnecessary complications.”
Hearing Baili Xia’s words, Mu Ziying stuck out her tongue meekly.
“Alright, alright, I know, I won’t gossip with others. I only mentioned it because it’s just us here.”
She claimed to be discreet, but her cheeks flushed, and she spoke with a hint of awkwardness.
Baili Xia, seeing her reaction, knew she must have already told someone.
However, it wasn’t hard to guess who she might have told.
Having grown up in the family, Mu Ziying knew very well the ins and outs of these family matters.
She wouldn’t let anything potentially exploitable slip out.
The only likely person, Mu Ziying could have spoken to, was likely Dongfang Ji.
Their relationship was so close, they shared almost everything.
Perhaps, an auspicious event between the Mu family and the Dongfang Family was on the horizon.
Baili Xia shook her head, her face a picture of resignation.
Yet, she said no more; after all, everyone was familiar with each other, trust in Dongfang Ji shouldn’t be an issue.
Dongfang Ji wasn’t a gossiper and wouldn’t spread rumors indiscriminately.
At this moment, the times were troubled, and the quieter things could remain, the better, to avoid further complications.
