Be Gentle, My Master
Chapter 1293
In truth, though the paternity test with Bei Kuangri has not yet been conducted, Baili Xia had already acknowledged Bei Qingyou in her heart.
Especially just now, she distinctly heard the Old Master refer to her as…
You’er.
This wasn’t the first time—last time, the Old Madam had also lost composure in the same way.
Back then, she didn’t know anything and paid it no attention.
Looking back now, it turns out this is what it was all about.
Others might have mostly forgotten about Bei Qingyou; after all, she had been dead for over a decade.
But as her parents, the Old Madam and Old Master had always kept her in their thoughts.
“Master, slow down. Why are you walking so fast?” The Old Madam approached the Old Master, slightly out of breath herself.
She glanced at Baili Xia, and something flickered momentarily in her eyes.
After regaining her composure, she said calmly, “She’s the apprentice of Ghost Doctor Mr. Nangong.”
The Old Master nodded faintly, as expected—he had mistaken her for someone else.
No, he hadn’t mistaken her; he had simply thought that she… had returned.
How could Nangong Xu’s apprentice possibly be her?
Not to mention, their ages were far different.
The Old Master nodded faintly again, his gaze falling on a few pots of Parrot Beak Flowers, lost in thought.
“Let’s go, Master.
You’ve been out for so many days; you must be tired.”
“Go back and get some rest.
There are guests to entertain tonight as well.”
The Old Madam gently looped her arm around the Old Master’s as he withdrew from his reverie and followed her into the hall.
Just before entering the hall, he suddenly turned back to glance at Baili Xia.
Baili Xia quickly straightened her back, gazing at the Old Master and offering a light smile.
They truly felt like family.
Every time she saw the Old Master’s expression, Baili Xia felt an inexplicable sense of intimacy and familiarity.
Aside from her first encounter with Bei Tianyou, she had never felt this way again.
Perhaps there’s a sort of spiritual connection that can only exist between family members.
The Old Master walked slowly into the hall, where Nangong Yun approached him.
“Grandfather, how’s your health? I haven’t seen you in so long; I’ve missed you.”
Earlier, Baili Xia had inexplicably stolen the spotlight, but fortunately, Grandfather had clearly just mistaken her for someone else and didn’t truly share any bond with her.
That wretched woman had left a faint scar on her face, and though she’d used the Bei Family’s medicine to reduce it to the point of near invisibility,
its existence constantly reminded her.
Baili Xia, that wretch—unless she was removed, Nangong Yun’s anger and resentment would never be resolved!
The Old Master gazed at Nangong Yun with eyes full of indulgence and said with a smile, “Yun’er, you’re growing prettier every day, and your words are becoming sweeter too.”
“Grandfather, Yun’er doesn’t just have a sweet tongue; she also brings you gifts.”
In front of the Old Master, Nangong Yun shed all her lofty and elegant demeanor, instead coming across as purely a little girl.
The Old Master cherished her exactly in this way.
Whatever elegance and noble grace she might have, it meant nothing to an elderly man like him.
Only innocence—pure and childlike—was what an old grandfather could truly appreciate.
Nangong Yun understood this perfectly, to an absolute degree.
“Oh? What gift has Yun’er brought me?” The Old Master’s smile broadened.
Truthfully, no gift could truly move him anymore, but as long as he saw the children’s filial dedication, he felt deeply content.
“I won’t tell you yet. I’ll give it to you later.”
Nangong Yun’s smile was pure and radiant to the extreme!
The few of them moved farther and farther away, quickly disappearing into the depths of the hall, their voices fading into silence.
