Ning Anran responded with a sigh, then stepped inside.

As soon as she entered the bedroom, Ning Anran saw the old man lying on the bed, covered with a thick silk quilt.

His complexion appeared somewhat pale, and his spirits weren’t very high.

Ning Anran hurried a few steps to the old man’s bedside, reached out to hold his hand, and squatted down.

“Grandpa, how are you?”

Seeing Ning Anran’s anxious look, the old man’s heart warmed.

In a hoarse voice, he said, “Don’t worry, Grandpa is fine. Before I make sure you’re settled, Grandpa won’t let anything happen to me.”

Seeing him speak with such a lack of strength, Ning Anran looked somewhat dejected.

Her eyes felt wet, and she whispered, “Grandpa, don’t worry about me anymore, focus on recovering your health first.”

The old man was deeply moved, not expecting Ning Anran to be so concerned about him just after being reunited.

She would rather not have all that wealth and just hope his health would improve a bit.

Such a kind and filial granddaughter, how could he not feel gratified?

He withdrew his hand and held Ning Anran’s hand in return, his voice slightly emotional.

“Rest assured, Grandpa only has you as family, nothing will happen to Grandpa.”

Ning Anran nodded heavily, looking down at a corner of the room, as if lost in thought.

“Anran, do you have something on your mind?” the old man asked.

Ning Anran seemed suddenly startled, turning her head to look at the old man.

“Grandpa, I want to ask, why did you tell Feng Gang not to pursue it any further?

Even the doctor said you were poisoned!”

“Grandpa, being poisoned, that’s such a terrifying thing, how can you not pursue it?”

“If you don’t pursue it, that person will harm you again in the future.”

The old man quietly looked at her, not answering immediately.

After a mere two seconds, he sighed lightly, finally deciding to tell Ning Anran everything.

“Anran, actually, this isn’t the first time Grandpa has been poisoned.”

“Not long ago, I had another incident of poisoning and couldn’t find the cause.

I suspected Chef Wang poisoned my food.”

“I gave Chef Wang a vacation and told others he took leave, but actually I wanted to see if it was his doing.”

“However, I got poisoned again today, so it seems it was not Chef Wang.”

“Not…the first time?” The old man’s words left Ning Anran thoroughly shocked.

Her lips parted slightly, wanting to speak, yet unsure what to say, looking incredulous.

After a long while, she came back to her senses, looking at the old man, whose complexion remained unusually pale.

“Grandpa, you said you had been poisoned once before, what exactly happened?”

The old man patted her hand, comforting her, “It’s nothing, just…”

He glanced into the distance, lost in thought.

“It’s just that someone in this house wants me dead.”

After speaking, he looked at Ning Anran, solemnly saying, “Anran, you must be careful in the future, this person might make a move on you as well.”

Ning Anran merely nodded slightly, appearing as if it didn’t matter.

The old man was somewhat astonished by her courage, not expecting his granddaughter to be so young yet unafraid of evildoers.

Ning Anran asked again, “Grandpa, earlier everyone suspected it was Xiaxia, why don’t you suspect her?”

The old man shook his head gently, saying in a deep voice, “She didn’t do it.

When the last poisoning incident happened, she hadn’t returned from Bei Miao, she didn’t have the chance to do it.”

He pressed his lips together, his gaze piercing, “The poisoner must be someone else.”
