Be Gentle, My Master
Chapter 1620
Baili Xia didn’t say anything more, picking up a silver needle and inserting one into each dish.
After finishing, she stood quietly on one side waiting.
Everyone held their breath, waiting for the results of Baili Xia’s test.
After about ten seconds, Baili Xia began to pull out the silver needles one by one.
Checking each one, all the silver needles were no different from before.
Baili Xia breathed a sigh of relief, looked at the old man and said, “There’s no poison, you can eat with peace of mind.”
The old man nodded slightly but did not start eating immediately.
A complicated gaze fell on Baili Xia, as he pondered.
This child genuinely cares for him, he could tell.
But what does it matter?
He had already found his biological granddaughter.
Such thoughts weren’t the first time in the old man’s mind, he was also struggling inside.
Why does he still feel a sense of warmth from this child even though there’s no connection anymore?
Even when with Ning Anran, he couldn’t find this feeling in her?
Ning Anran reminded him of familiar things, he could see many shadows of certain people’s past in her.
However, the feeling from Baili Xia was a quiet purity, certain emotions that didn’t need deliberate nurturing, they were just there.
Perhaps it’s because Baili Xia was the first to come to the Mu family, he had a preconceived notion.
Having such thoughts really does a disservice to An Ran.
But those feelings were difficult to dispel nevertheless.
Everyone in the side hall was waiting for the old man to speak.
At this moment, Mu Xiaoyao also came down.
Walking into the side hall, he raised his eyes to see everyone standing silently and still, he was slightly stunned and a bit surprised.
“What’s going on? Why is everyone still,” he glanced at Baili Xia, speaking flatly.
“I just used silver needles to test for poison for Grandpa.” Baili Xia replied.
Mu Xiaoyao nodded, not finding her actions odd.
“So? Is there something wrong with the food?”
Baili Xia lightly shook her head, her gaze falling on the old man.
The old man, feeling everyone’s eyes on him, collected his thoughts and took a deep breath.
“Alright, since there’s nothing wrong with the food, everyone sit down and eat.”
Baili Xia responded, returning to her seat.
Mu Xiaoyao looked at the dining table, deliberately walked over to Baili Xia’s side, and sat next to her.
During the meal, the old man and Ning Anran seemed preoccupied, not speaking again, losing the ease of earlier jokes.
Mu Xiaoyao looked at Baili Xia, asking lightly, “What nightmare did you have last night? Tell me so I can have a laugh.”
Baili Xia knew Mu Xiaoyao was joking to help her relax.
But, with the old man present, how could you joke like that?
Baili Xia glanced at the old man, who happened to look up at her too.
Their eyes met, and both felt a slight emotional stirring.
“Xiaxia had a nightmare?” the old man asked gently.
Baili Xia rolled her eyes at Mu Xiaoyao, clearly displeased with his nonsense.
“It’s nothing, maybe just tired, didn’t sleep well.”
The old man nodded, glancing at Feng Gang.
Understanding, Feng Gang immediately approached.
“Sir?”
“Later, find a doctor to prescribe some calming and sleep aid medicine for Xiaxia.”
Feng Gang acknowledged, preparing to withdraw, when the old man added, “Make it traditional medicine.”
