It wasn’t until he saw the door close that Mu Xiaoyao snapped back to reality.

Uncle…

really let him stay with Baili Xia tonight.

Was it Nangong Xu’s words about “after-effects” just now that made Uncle feel uneasy?

Looking at the slightly ajar door, Mu Xiaoyao was silent for a moment before finally heading towards Baili Xia’s room.

No matter what happens in the future, at least, for now, he should help this girl get better.

…

Early in the morning, sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling window, stinging Baili Xia’s eyes.

She rubbed her eyes and slowly opened them.

She lifted her eyes and looked towards the direction of the window.

There stood a tall figure beside the window, seemingly just having drawn the curtain open.

“Since you’re awake, go downstairs for breakfast.”

Mu Xiaoyao stood with his back to the sunlight, and Baili Xia couldn’t see his face clearly.

However, upon hearing his familiar and reassuring voice, her mood instantly improved.

She climbed out of bed, yawned, and looked at the man who had returned to the bedside.

Tilting her head, she carefully observed his face: “Brother, why are you so handsome? The more I look, the more attractive you are.”

Mu Xiaoyao was taken aback, not expecting her to start teasing him so early in the morning.

It seemed that without any worries weighing on her, this girl was living more freely.

Had she forgotten all the oppression she once felt from Uncle?

“What are you doing? Why are you staring at me?”

Baili Xia patted her cheeks and moved to the edge of the bed, suddenly giving him a bright smile.

“Did you also notice that I’m becoming prettier?”

“Such a show-off!” How come he hadn’t noticed it before?

Mu Xiaoyao couldn’t help but smile faintly, and when he did, his naturally handsome face became even more captivating.

Baili Xia almost got lost in her stare until she felt a small tug on her foot, snapping back to reality.

She looked down to see Mu Xiaoyao putting shoes on her feet, and warmth filled her heart.

She murmured softly, “Brother, you’re so good to me.”

Mu Xiaoyao was surprised, not realizing he was actually taking care of her.

Just seeing her sitting there like a dazed child, he instinctively crouched down in front of her to help her put on shoes.

Holding her tiny foot in his hand, his heart was filled with indescribable emotions.

Helping a girl with her shoes was something he’d never done in his life.

He gathered his thoughts and slipped the other shoe onto her foot.

Mu Xiaoyao stood up and glanced down at her: “I have some things to take care of.

You can go downstairs for breakfast by yourself.

I’ll be back as soon as possible.”

“Okay.” Baili Xia nodded obediently.

After watching him leave, she jumped off the bed and headed towards the bathroom.

…

When Baili Xia went downstairs, two maids were cleaning the hall.

Seeing her, they immediately came over and respectfully greeted her, “Miss Xiaxia.”

Baili Xia nodded and took a look around the hall’s decor.

It had a distinguished air, not luxurious, yet imposing.

This hall…

it felt so familiar, but why couldn’t she remember where it was?

She patted her head, furrowing her brow.

“What’s going on, do you feel unwell?” From the stairs behind her came a low, deep voice.

Baili Xia turned around abruptly, and that one glance left her amazed.

Uncle…

the one from last night who inexplicably frightened her.

But the uncle standing here now…

was truly handsome!
