“It’s still not too late to chase after him now.”

Mu Xiaoyao looked at the girl sitting on the bed, her head down, his words carrying a rare hint of helplessness.

He rarely meddled in others’ emotional matters, even when it came to Uncle and Baili Xia. He didn’t like delving too deeply.

At most, he just safeguarded her and completed his own mission.

But recently, for reasons unknown, it seemed he started thinking a bit too much.

“Why should I chase him?” Baili Xia still didn’t lift her head, her gaze falling into an unnamed corner.

“Didn’t you see? Just now… he almost forced himself on me.”

From the very beginning until now, Uncle has always been Uncle, always standing on the pedestal of the coercer.

From her first time, when has she ever not been forced by him to do such things?

Mutual affection may have existed, but it was never a match for the ultimate goal of revenge.

Feelings had long since become impure.

Perhaps, when she fell in love with a rapist, she had already lost her life.

Now, it is merely giving her a chance at rebirth, why not seize it?

No matter if Mu Xiaojiu saw through her restored memories or not, at least his attitude earlier has revealed everything.

No matter if she regains her memory or whatever she plans to do in the future, it has nothing to do with him.

He wouldn’t help her, nor would he stop her.

In this respect, she at least still felt a faint gratitude towards him.

Mu Xiaoyao, however, didn’t understand the hidden meaning between their words, playing mind games wasn’t his forte.

“His mood was bad, that’s why…”

“Brother, do you like me even a little bit?”

Baili Xia suddenly interrupted him, lifting her gaze to meet his, her smile had a touch of pallor.

“Do you like me? If you like me, don’t push me into someone else’s arms. If you don’t like me, then don’t say you’ll protect me anymore. I don’t need it.”

Mu Xiaoyao remained silent, this question left him unsure how to answer.

After what seemed like an eternity, he glanced at the torn, discarded nightdress on the floor.

He turned to the wardrobe, grabbed a new set, and returned to the bedside.

“Put on some clothes first.”

“Will you despise me?” Baili Xia picked up the nightdress he had placed on the bed, looking at his turned back.

“You know full well that before I fell down the stairs, I had already been… have you grown to despise me?”

“No,” Mu Xiaoyao didn’t turn around, staring at the two blurred figures on the wall.

Despise was never a word that appeared between them.

To him, this girl was always Uncle’s woman, before and after, there was really no difference.

But just now, Uncle had said, from now… he wouldn’t manage her.

In truth, Uncle was telling them, he didn’t want Baili Xia anymore.

From this day forward, what would happen to this girl?

Behind him, there came the rustling sounds of clothes being put on.

When he heard her getting off the bed, only then did he turn back, picking up the shredded nightdress and tossing it into the trash.

After throwing it away, he no longer knew what else to do.

Baili Xia stood behind him, watching him for a moment before turning and walking into the bathroom.

“I’m fine now, you go rest.”

The bathroom door closed behind her.

Staring at the tear-streaked face reflected in the mirror, unable to muster even a smile.

From now on, neither owed each other, going their separate ways…

Having made a choice, why feel heartache?
