Brother’s words kept echoing in my mind.

If I don’t get married, it will inevitably arouse Mu Xuri’s suspicion. Can I really handle the consequences?

If Mu Xuri starts to doubt her, there’s no need to say more, revenge will come quickly.

Seeing her still not speaking, Ning Anran asked again, “What’s going on? Did you have a fight with Mu Xiaoyao?”

Baili Xia, overwhelmed by her pestering, replied, “How is it any of your business? Do you think getting close to us again means we can be friends?”

Ning Anran’s eyes flickered; she had no interest in becoming friends with them again.

“Listen to you, we are already friends, of course we should be concerned about each other.”

“Besides, once I’m with Uncle, we’ll truly be family.”

Baili Xia chuckled, a hint of disdain flashing through her eyes.

Ning Anran’s words sounded utterly ridiculous; she couldn’t even see through herself.

“Ning Anran, how can you be so shameless?”

“Look at yourself; do you really think you have anything to offer? Do you really think Uncle would take an interest in you?”

“You…” Ning Anran was at a loss for words, taken aback.

This was indeed what she’d always felt insecure about.

She lacked a good background, no wealth, nor Baili Xia’s enticing ways. In fact, she lacked confidence in being with Mr. Xiaojiu.

But if Baili Xia could do it, so could she. Why should Baili Xia say such things about her?

As long as she got Baili Xia away from Mr. Xiaojiu, she’d have a chance to make him love her.

No, he already loved her; Baili Xia was just in the way.

Seeing her silence, Baili Xia continued, “You better wise up and leave the Mu family before it ends badly for you.”

Her voice grew louder inadvertently, drawing the attention of surrounding classmates.

Those nearby had clearly heard Baili Xia’s previous words and began murmuring.

“Aren’t they supposed to be friends? What’s going on?”

“Seems like it’s about Mr. Xiaojiu. Could it be that Ning Anran has a crush on him?”

“No way, how could she be a match for Mr. Xiaojiu?”

“Well, there are many ways women can seduce men.”

Ning Anran’s face burned with heat; her skin wasn’t thick enough to remain indifferent to such comments.

Her eyes flickered as she quickly thought of a response.

A moment later, her eyes were glossed over with a misty layer.

“Xiaxia, how can you speak like that?”

Ning Anran raised her voice, attempting to steer the conversation back onto Baili Xia.

“I came in good faith to comfort you since you fought with Mu Xiaoyao, and this is how you repay me?”

Baili Xia coldly snorted, secretly amused.

To garner sympathy, she could cry on demand.

Such acting skills! She’d surely be a hit in movies.

But in front of me, nothing she does matters.

“There’s nothing between Brother and me. He’ll come to pick me up after school. Why do you keep cursing us?”

“Tears? So easy to shed, do they even have value? You can stop pretending in front of me; it doesn’t work.”

Classmates instantly chose sides, naturally leaning towards Baili Xia over Ning Anran.

Turns out, Ning Anran was trying to sow discord between Baili Xia and Mu Xiaoyao.

Who knew what she was thinking, targeting Mu like that, causing instant disdain towards her among everyone.
