Any misstep could lead to total ruin.

The assassination attempt on Xiaoxiao failed, making it difficult to find another opportunity.

Could it be that I must give up everything I’ve painstakingly built over these years, something I’ve fought so hard to regain?

Thud, thud, thud…

The door to the study was gently knocked from the outside.

Mu Xuri suddenly opened his eyes, with an eagle-like sharpness emanating from them.

“Come in.”

Ning Anran gathered her composure and pushed the door open.

“Third Uncle.”

Mu Xuri did not respond at all, just sat there with an inexplicable coldness in his gaze.

Ning Anran felt a shiver in her heart, it seemed he was troubled by something.

She had just seen Nangong Xu leave; Mu Xuri came back right afterwards.

It’s probably because of the issues at Sihai Residence that he was in a bad mood.

Thinking for a moment, Ning Anran proactively walked over to Mu Xuri.

Going directly behind him, she placed her hands on his shoulders, gently massaging.

“Third Uncle, are you upset because of the issues at Sihai Residence?”

She asked cautiously.

Mu Xuri tightened internally, lifting his cold gaze to look at Ning Anran.

“What do you know?”

Startled by his gaze, Ning Anran unconsciously broke out into a slight sweat on her forehead.

She nervously replied, “I don’t know anything. If Third Uncle needs, I can go over and check things out.”

Mu Xuri’s gaze lingered on her face for a bit before he looked away.

“No need.”

This girl, she really can’t find out anything useful.

They have no trust in her over at Sihai Residence. The valuable information she’s garnered all this time is only that Xiaoxiao is about to wake up.

But now, after the assassination incident at Sihai Residence, can they let her easily enter the medical room?

Obviously not.

Ning Anran felt somewhat disheartened, as she pressed a little less firmly, her mind quickly processing.

What exactly happened today, it seems everyone appears tense and on edge.

She’s not stupid; Mr. Xiaojiu’s security personnel walking around the yard made her aware that something was off.

Yet, clearly, Mu Xuri doesn’t trust her; without Wen Yu, everything is now handled by Leng Yu.

Since the time at Wen Yu’s funeral, when Mu Xuri was unwilling to protect her, she realized that she could only rely on herself to return to Mr. Xiaojiu’s side.

Relying on this cripple, even offering herself would be futile.

While her mind was occupied, she hadn’t noticed Mu Xuri’s hand reaching unsteadily towards her again.

That large palm bypassed her side, landing on her pert little behind.

“Ah, Third Uncle.”

Startled, Ning Anran snapped back to reality.

Instinctively, she retreated slightly, evading that repulsive big hand.

Mu Xuri turned his wheelchair to face Ning Anran.

His eyes held no trace of warmth, his whole presence chillingly terrifying.

“You want to hide?”

“No, no… I…”

Ning Anran didn’t know how to respond. Although Mu Xuri’s behavior towards her had grown increasingly excessive, she had hoped he would help her return to Mr. Xiaojiu’s side.

But now, she recognized that that was impossible.

She couldn’t continue to be his plaything; if she really were by him, how could she still follow Mr. Xiaojiu?

“Do you not want to return to Jiu’s side?”

Seeing Ning Anran unmoved, Mu Xuri threatened.

Ning Anran was slightly dazed, her retreat coming to a halt.

Looking at Mu Xuri, she pulled a somewhat guilty smile.

“I-I listen to everything Third Uncle says!”
