Even if there are no cameras in the back mountain, there are plenty set up on the road leading there.

As long as someone passes through, the cameras will definitely catch something.

If they want to find a breakthrough, they have to start with the surveillance footage.

“Alright.”

Bei Xier nodded and left immediately.

Once Bei Xier was gone, Bei Qingyue finally let out a light breath and leaned back on the sofa.

She was just a woman, yet over the years she had shouldered more and more of the Bei Family’s burdens.

Sometimes, she really needed a man’s shoulder to lean on for a moment.

In her mind, a tall, ethereal, otherworldly figure appeared.

He stood in the wind, making people feel they didn’t dare approach easily.

But she still had so many things to do, really too many.

Some of them were enough to leave a person utterly exhausted in body and mind…

“Tell Miss Yun to come find me in the study.” She stood up and turned to leave.

…

Not long after, Nangong Yun knocked on the study door.

The person inside didn’t respond, but Nangong Yun knew Bei Qingyue had to be there.

She pushed the door open and went in; sure enough, Bei Qingyue was sitting in the chair, looking at the view outside the window.

Her back looked so desolate, you could even say lonely.

In fact, all these years, Nangong Yun had known that her mother had always been very lonely.

Even in the early years, when her father was still around, her mother had been just as lonely.

The marriage between the Bei Family and the Nangong Family, in truth, had no real feelings between the people involved.

From a very young age, Nangong Yun had known that her father had someone in his heart, and her mother also had someone in her heart.

But that person…was not each other.

“Mom, you were looking for me?” Nangong Yun walked over, coming to stand behind Bei Qingyue.

“Kneel.” The slightly hoarse voice wasn’t loud, but it sent a sudden chill through Nangong Yun’s heart.

“Mom?”

“I told you to kneel!” Bei Qingyue’s voice suddenly hardened, scaring Nangong Yun so much that she dropped to her knees with a thud without another word.

“Mom? I’ll kneel, you tell me to kneel and I’ll kneel, but can you at least tell me what exactly I did wrong? Why are you making me kneel?”

“You don’t know what you did wrong? You really don’t know?”

With a swish, Bei Qingyue yanked the curtains shut.

She turned around and glared at the kneeling Nangong Yun; that sharp gaze made Nangong Yun’s heart suddenly go weak.

Bei Qingyue’s eyes were too cold, too chilling; Nangong Yun lowered her head, not daring to meet her gaze again.

When this mother got serious, even Nangong Yun was very afraid.

“Mom, I…really don’t know…what I did wrong?”

Nangong Yun’s voice was very soft, yet she was still trying to hold on.

“You wretched thing, you still refuse to repent!”

Bei Qingyue suddenly grabbed the cup beside her and hurled it hard at Nangong Yun!

“You and Zicheng teamed up, trying to go after Baili Xia—did you really think I wouldn’t know anything?”

“Mom…” Nangong Yun’s face changed, and she was so frightened she didn’t dare say another word.

After a pause, she hurriedly tried to deny it: “Mom, I…that never happened, I…I could never…”

But Bei Qingyue still looked at her coldly. “I raised you myself. What kind of character you have—do you really think your own mother doesn’t know?”

“That boy Zicheng is good for nothing but ruining things, all brawn and no brains. How could he possibly come up with such a chain of schemes on his own?”

Nangong Yun didn’t dare speak; she just stared blankly at Bei Qingyue.

One look at that expression and Bei Qingyue knew she had guessed everything right.

She had given birth to this daughter; hitting her felt like striking her own heart.

But this child was really too much of a disappointment!
