Be Gentle, My Master
Chapter 2592
“Those people, weren’t they sent by Zicheng?”
This question had always lingered in Bei Qingyue’s mind.
She stared into Nangong Yun’s eyes, hoping to discern her daughter’s thoughts from them.
Nangong Yun met her gaze openly this time, without a hint of evasion.
“Previously, I did let Zicheng stay at Master’s old house for a few days, and I asked him.”
“He said the people weren’t sent by him, but I can’t tell if he’s telling the truth.”
“But they were definitely not sent by me. Mom, you know my abilities.”
“If those people were really that capable, could I have gotten them?”
Bei Qingyue said nothing, sinking into contemplative silence.
Nangong Yun also remained silent, quietly awaiting her decision.
After an indeterminate amount of time had passed, Bei Qingyue finally asked.
“Aside from you and Zicheng, who else knew about taking Xi’er out to lure Baili Xia?”
“No one else.” Nangong Yun shook her head.
“Then what happened with Zicheng? Why did he die on the back mountain?”
Nangong Yun’s lips moved slightly, evidently hesitant.
Bei Qingyue immediately furrowed her brows, her face filled with displeasure.
“At this point, if you’re still trying to hide something, I can’t help you.”
“Mom, I was wrong. I’m not trying to hide, I’m just a bit flustered.”
Nangong Yun knelt in front of her again, clutching her pant leg.
“Mom, last night I even argued with Cousin Zicheng.”
“His death really involves you?” Bei Qingyue was startled, completely taken aback that it could truly be her.
If it were truly Nangong Yun, the matter would be thorny.
“No, no! Mom, don’t misunderstand, I didn’t kill Cousin Zicheng.”
Nangong Yun shook her head frantically, quickly explaining.
“I merely… Cousin Zicheng insisted on returning to Lingfeng Group, and I urged him to wait a bit, but he was clearly unhappy.”
“We quarreled a bit at night, and I even threatened him not to run around, not expecting that he would meet with misfortune today.”
She clutched Bei Qingyue’s pant leg tightly, looking up at her, filled with unease.
“Mom, I only mentioned this to you, please don’t tell Grandma.”
“Grandma already doesn’t trust me, if she finds out I hid Cousin Zicheng, she’ll surely conclude I killed him.”
“Are you really not the one who killed him?” Bei Qingyue gave her a cold stare, her gaze fierce.
“I truly didn’t.” Nangong Yun shook her head vigorously.
Bei Qingyue let out a shallow sigh of relief, thankfully it wasn’t her, otherwise she wouldn’t know how to deal with it.
But still, what happened with Zicheng?
Could it truly be Mu Xiaoyao?
Was it because Zicheng had previously framed Mu Xiaoyao, so Mu Xiaoyao sought revenge and inadvertently killed him?
Or did those assassins really come from Zicheng?
Is it possible that Zicheng failed to divide the loot with them, leading to the assassins silencing him instead?
With no leads whatsoever, Bei Qingyue felt utterly drained.
Most infuriating of all, were Baili Xia and Bei Fengjin truly getting together?
“Mom…”
“Leave.” Bei Qingyue waved her hand, supporting her temple.
Nangong Yun dared not say anything further, stood up, and left.
When closing the door for her, one could still see Bei Qingyue’s troubled face.
Not until the door was closed did Bei Qingyue open her eyes.
Staring at the empty room, she was lost in thought.
Who wants to target the Bei Family, and who is creating all this havoc?
Feng Jin… if she were to say she was truly exhausted, would he be willing to step forward, manage the Bei Family alongside her?
Just like when he stood by Bei Qingyou, forever protecting her…
