Be Gentle, My Master

Chapter 459: Drink with Me 02_1

  • Next Chapter

Despite pouring out her heart to Mu Xiaoyao today, Baili Xia, who should be the one feeling down, is somehow not.

However, why does it seem that Brother is the one battling the heaviest of moods?

“Brother.” This time, Baili Xia placed her hand on his, stopping his motion to take another drink.

Staring at his eyes, which were already glazed over from alcohol, Baili Xia tried to reason with him.

“Brother, if there’s something troubling you, could you tell me, please?”

“If you resent me, you can vent your anger.

There’s no need to…”

“I do not resent you.” Mu Xiaoyao’s grip on the glass tightened.

Nevertheless, he pushed her hand away and downed the rest of his drink.

Then, he poured himself another one.

However, this time he held the glass without immediately downing it.

His eyes, misty with alcohol, appeared clear and bright, deep yet as distant as the stars.

He gazed at Baili Xia, earnestly and intensely, as if she were a cherished treasure.

Of course, Baili Xia would not mistake his stare for pity.

However, his intensity was making her feel nervous.

“Brother, do you have something to say?”

Mu Xiaoyao remained silent, just keeping his gaze fixed on her.

He didn’t take a sip, didn’t respond, didn’t do anything.

He just sat there, quietly studying her face.

Constantly watching her, straining his gaze.

Baili Xia felt helpless, at a loss as to how to comfort him.

Subtly, she seemed to understand Brother’s emotional state and why it had deteriorated so much.

To him, Uncle was like a god, a perfect embodiment.

Had he come to realize that Uncle had been secretly causing harm to an innocent person, thus shattering his admiration?

Actually, it didn’t dawn on Baili Xia why she was so sure Mu Xiaoyao would believe her.

But seeing his lost, despairing look now, she inexplicably believed he would.

Brother, at least, still trusted her.

“I’m sorry.” Amidst her muddled thoughts, Mu Xiaoyao said quietly.

His lips, tinged with red wine, moved slightly, shining in the dim light, temptingly enticing.

“I’m sorry…

I misjudged you.”

“Brother.” Baili Xia’s expression was unreadable, it was as if she had none.

She just stared at him, unresponsive.

Brother, so proud, so arrogant, so aloof, had just apologized to her?

Was she hearing things right?

“You should have told me earlier, everything…

was forced upon you.”

Mu Xiaoyao finally stopped watching her and poured himself another glass of wine.

As he drowned his sorrows, muttering quietly to himself.

“I nearly choked you to death.

Did it hurt then?

I mean, here.”

His large hand suddenly fell onto his chest, pressing down where his heart was.

“Did it hurt…

here?”

Such a young girl, having to endure so much, under so much pressure?

No one to help her.

Worse still, everyone misunderstanding her, hating her, bullying her.

Did she really make it through all this strong and alone?

He couldn’t forget how he had choked her that night, seeing a sense of despair in her eyes.

Without giving her a chance to explain, he had already passed judgment on her.

Actually, did that make him any different from Uncle?
