Be Gentle, My Master
Chapter 677: Something's Off with the Atmosphere_1
Ning Anran doubted her, did not believe in her.
In that moment, Baili Xia felt her years-long belief in their relationship instantly shattered.
Doubt, it’s truly a terrifying weapon.
A single doubt, and everything is lost.
Nevertheless, she’d still treat Ning Anran kindly, after all, they were once very close friends.
Suddenly, she truly yearned for her days in the orphanage.
Back then, besides Ning Anran, there was also the rough Xiaoxiao, and the cold-faced but warm-hearted Yu Mo.
Now, everything was gone.
Sorrowful?
Perhaps, sorrowful isn’t the right word to describe it.
Let’s just say that she might have misjudged people all along.
Walking into the classroom, she clearly sensed that today’s atmosphere wasn’t quite right.
Ever since Baili Xia stepped in, everyone had been intentionally or unintentionally taking extra glances at her.
Their heads lowered, whispering to each other, she had no idea what they were saying.
“Is An Ran alright?” Suddenly, someone asked quietly.
“She’s getting better; she’s recuperating at the Mu Mansion. She will return to the class in a few days.”
She had anticipated that someone would ask, and so, Baili Xia’s response came naturally.
However, everyone asked and then did not bring up the topic again.
The atmosphere remained strange, with no signs of relaxation.
The bell rang—class began.
Baili Xia finally noticed something odd.
Today, the physical education representative, Chen Ming, and the class monitor, Tan Xiao, were absent.
Why were these two absent together?
Even during roll call, nobody excused their absence.
Everyone’s expressions were so strange that she had this unsettling feeling.
This odd feeling persisted until the end of class.
Baili Xia finally couldn’t bear it anymore and grabbed Deputy Monitor Ji Wei, who was about to walk past her.
“What’s happening? What is everyone whispering about? Where are the monitor and Chen Ming?”
She had not been particularly close with these people before.
It was only after sports training for the sports meet that they began to have more contact.
Especially since they were training for a common goal, Baili Xia did have some emotional attachment to this class.
Seeing his clothing corner grabbed by her, Ji Wei knew he couldn’t escape.
Taking advantage of the fact that not many people were paying attention, he leaned forward, deliberately lowered his voice, and carefully told her.
“The monitor…
and the physical education representative…
they were…
they were beaten up.”
“What?
They were beaten up?”
“Shhh!” Ji Wei hurriedly put his index finger in front of his lips, signalling her to lower her voice.
Baili Xia had no choice but to hold back, fell silent, and listened to him continue.
Feeling insecure within the crowded classroom, Ji Wei suggested: “You… come with me, I’ll tell you.”
Once they reached a secluded corner, Ji Wei dared to tell Baili Xia the whole story.
Last night, someone called out the class monitor and sports representative, stating that they wanted to discuss matters about the sports meet.
“Why would they leave so late at night? It couldn’t have been anything good.” Baili Xia muttered.
Ji Wei nodded: “They did present their conditions, but both the monitor and the sports rep were unwilling.”
“What were the conditions?”
Baili Xia had heard about the small groups and factions within the school.
Because the descendants of the Eight Big Families were here, conflicts had never ceased.
For larger families like the Mu family and the Dongfang family, their actions were always aboveboard.
One look at Brother and Dongfang Ji, and you’d know that they didn’t like covert actions.
Because they had a reputation, they had enough power; they would proceed with things the way they desired.
