Be Gentle, My Master

Chapter 687: One has to bow under the eaves _1

  • Next Chapter

Not long after Baili Xia and Ning Anran left, the orphanage was razed to the ground by a sudden fire.

Everyone left, even the headmaster disappeared without a trace.

The crucial point was, we were all too young back then, we didn’t understand anything.

Baili Xia and Ning Anran only knew that the orphanage was gone and everyone had disappeared, but they had no idea where to find them.

Xiaoxiao glanced at Zimo, who was munching on a hamburger, and smiled a bit bitterly.

“We wanted to find you back then, but the headmaster didn’t say anything.

We didn’t even know who adopted you.”

“Later, a couple adopted me and Zimo, and we left that place.”

“What happened after that?” Seeing them now, they did not look like they were living in someone else’s home.

They looked more like…

two wandering children.

“Well, it turned out that the couple were human traffickers.

Zimo knocked out the guard and we escaped.”

“After that, we lived in a nearby town for more than a decade, gained some education, but we basically gave it all back to our teachers, haha.”

Baili Xia turned her face away, her heart aching and throbbing.

Xiaoxiao made light of it, but only they knew how much hardship they had endured during the process.

“What are your plans for the future?” Tan Xiao suddenly asked.

No one answered, because, they couldn’t.

“Wait for me a few more days, I will make arrangements for you,” Baili Xia said softly.

“Looking for Mu family’s people again?” Xiaoxiao seemed unimpressed.

Having heard about Xiaxia’s life over the recent years, they got to know about her situation.

But, Lord Mu was not really her grandfather, it felt inappropriate to keep asking for help from the Mu family without reason.

“I will find a job.” Suddenly, Zimo, who had finished her hamburger, looked up at Baili Xia.

Her face had been serious, or rather, cold all along.

But when she looked at Baili Xia, there was a trace of tenderness in her eyes, albeit barely perceptible.

“Give me a few more days in this place and I’ll get the lay of the land. Once I’ve found a job, I’ll be able to get you out of here, no need for you to live under someone else’s roof.”

There’s a saying that one has to bow one’s head under someone else’s roof.

Baili Xia has been an outsider in the Mu family.

They would never treat her sincerely.

“I won’t let you suffer, don’t be afraid.” Zimo suddenly gripped her wrist tightly, her face serious.

Not being able to find her was her own incompetence, now that she’s found her, she can’t let her continue to suffer.

In the Mu family, who knows if they have truly been good to her?

Baili Xia met her gaze, a warmth spreading in her heart.

Zimo is only a year older than her, but when they were in the orphanage, she was the one who cared for her the most.

To her, Zimo was both a sister and a brother.

Because, she had always been playing these two roles.

She took care of her as meticulously as an older sister would, always giving, never asking for anything in return.

Whenever someone bullied her, Zimo would instantly transform into King Kong and knock those people down one by one.

She worked hard to strengthen herself, just to protect those she wanted to protect!

A wave of nostalgia flooded over Baili Xia, the long-lost sensation of happiness instantly filling her heart.

This is the feeling of having a family, absolutely genuine, always giving without expecting anything in return.

Even after not seeing each other for more than a decade, that feeling has never changed.

“They have been really good to me, you don’t need to worry.”

She smiled, “What about now? Where are you living now?”

Zimo didn’t speak.

Xiaoxiao spoke first, “We’re doing well now, living with friends, we’re not missing anything.”
