Be Gentle, My Master

Chapter 801: Just for Her

  • Next Chapter

Baili Xia was startled and then felt a surge of grievance, “How come I didn’t know Mr. Nangong could be intimidating?”

Seeing his usually serious demeanor, she was truly enlightened to find that he could also jest with others.

“There are many things you don’t know,”

Nangong Xu merely glanced at her dispassionately and said no more.

He signaled for her to pull up a chair and sit down next to the platform, his expression becoming serious again.

“Starting today, I won’t just be studying poisons on my own, I will be teaching you as well. But the process might be dangerous, do you still want to learn?”

Baili Xia glanced at the bottles under his long fingers and instinctively swallowed.

Dealing with poisons was naturally particularly dangerous; a moment of carelessness could indeed lead to death.

But…

she really wanted to learn, what should she do?

“Can you guarantee… that I won’t lose my life?” she asked quietly.

“I cannot.” How could one guarantee safety when dealing with poisons?

If it were so easy, wouldn’t many have pursued it?

“But, Mr. Nangong, didn’t you say that your father…” She wasn’t sure if she should be speaking these words.

Seeing no displeasure in Nangong Xu’s face, she dared to continue.

“You’ve said that your father forbade you from practicing poison, and you promised him.”

“Yes, I promised not to practice poison, but I never said I couldn’t study poisons.”

There wasn’t much time, so Nangong Xu decided to stop beating around the bush.

He turned to face her, his eyes stern, “I want to teach you to differentiate poisons, to let you have a certain understanding of them, so that in the future, you won’t be easily poisoned by someone.”

“Ah?” Baili Xia was a bit stunned; this sounded as if…

“Just for me?”

Something flashed in the depths of Nangong Xu’s eyes, yet he nodded, “Yes.”

“Why?” She was just an ordinary girl; under normal circumstances, she wouldn’t have the chance to come into contact with people who used poison.

She was powerless and lacked influence; even if someone wanted to poison another, they wouldn’t target her.

But the way Nangong Xu spoke so solemnly made her feel as though her future was certain to be fraught with numerous poisoning attempts.

Was she overthinking it?

Nangong Xu, however, turned his face away, hiding the helplessness in his eyes.

He said softly, “In the future… it might indeed be necessary. After all, learning an additional skill is always good.”

Baili Xia didn’t speak.

Nangong Xu wasn’t the type to lie; if he didn’t want to tell something, he’d rather stay silent.

Like now, speaking only halfway was indeed rare for him.

However, if Nangong Xu was intent on teaching her how to identify poisons, she would study earnestly.

As he said, perhaps, one day it would indeed come in handy…

Baili Xia had spent over an hour in Nangong Xu’s medical room.

Not until Nangong Xu appeared a bit tired did Baili Xia get sent out.

As to why he ended up “sending” her out, even Baili Xia couldn’t understand.

She only knew that at the end, he glanced at the clock, then hurriedly told her to leave.

Even when she was leaving, he only gently pushed her, and then immediately shut the door behind her.

Could it be that he was afraid of being seen studying poisons, fearful of others saying he hadn’t followed his father’s dying instructions?

These men, she truly couldn’t grasp their thoughts.

Yet as she departed, she hadn’t noticed anything improper about Nangong Xu.

Leaving Nangong Xu’s medical room, she headed towards Ning Anran’s quarters not far away.

But as she lifted her head, she unexpectedly saw someone striding towards her…
