Be Gentle, My Master
Chapter 871: Really Too Heartbreaking
“If you want to stay and take care of him, suit yourself,” Baili Xia’s awkwardness was easily understood by Mu Xiaojiu, who still, honestly, was a bit worried.
“I’ll have them bring over a bed.
You’re not allowed to skip sleep or push yourself too hard.”
He pulled her over and gently ran his fingers through her hair: “You’ve just woken up as well, understand?”
“I get it.” Faced with Mr.
Xiaojiu’s sudden switch in demeanor, Baili Xia’s heart instantly felt intoxicated.
No matter how haughty he could be, in the end, he was always heartwarming.
After sending Uncle away, she returned to Nangong Xu’s room.
Before she had the chance to say anything to Nangong Xu, servants had already brought in a bed for her.
Others brought him new meals and took away his barely touched dinner from earlier.
Nangong Xu had simply watched quietly as everyone bustled around.
Not until everyone had left, and it was just Baili Xia remaining, did he look at her, his eyes brimming with a touched glimmer.
His usually impassive lips curled into a faint smile for the first time in her presence: “Thank you.”
Baili Xia’s gaze lingered on the smile at the edge of his lips, utterly captivated by his breathtaking smile that even women might envy.
Master…
never seemed to smile much; was this the first time she was seeing his genuine smile?
For that smile, even if tonight was more exhausting, it would be worth it.
She pulled up a chair beside the bed, helped him sit up slowly, then brought a bowl to him and spooned a mouthful of porridge to his lips: “Eat more, that way you’ll have the strength to recover.”
This time Nangong Xu didn’t resist at all; he accepted whatever she fed him and swallowed every bite.
After he had finished, she tidied up for him before letting someone take the utensils away.
Tucking the blanket around him, she smiled: “Uncle told me to take good care of you but also not to overwork myself.
So, you had better sleep through the night without waking me up with a fever.
It’ll be the death of me.”
Nangong Xu gazed at her delicate face for quite a while before nodding: “I’ll try my best.”
He himself was uncertain whether his wound, having been re-dressed today, would cause a fever.
However, he would try his best, try his best not to add to her burden, and also try his best to recover quickly.
Because Mr.
Xiaojiu “needs him.” Since Mr.
Xiaojiu still needed him, he had to be at his best, always ready to serve him.
Mr.
Xiaojiu, he still needed him…
A sentence so simple yet it settled the anxiety that had troubled his heart for days.
It also caused a subtle, joyful smile to linger on his lips as he fell asleep.
Seeing the smile by his lips, Baili Xia once again marveled at his handsomeness but couldn’t help feeling a pang of sympathy for him.
The master was truly a simple, transparent person; just one sentence from Uncle could make him this happy.
So easily contented, he really…
was too heart-wrenching.
…
Sima Liuyue walked directly to the back garden of the separate courtyard, where she immediately spotted Lu Xuening sitting at a stone table.
Seeing her there, Sima Liuyue’s expression darkened, a flicker of displeasure crossing her eyes.
Lu Xuening paused for a moment as she watched Sima Liuyue approach briskly, seemingly in not the best of moods.
Lu Xuening stood up, greeting her with a light smile: “Miss Sima.”
Sima Liuyue didn’t respond to her and walked up beside Lu Xuening with a slightly darkened face and inquired.
“Who allowed you to come outside?”
