Beastforged Bond
B6 Chapter 4 - Interlude
“The Primal Heir did it. He bound the Spawn,” Volca, Spirit of Fire, told his siblings.
The Spirits listened. Everyone was present, be it in person or in their avatars. Regardless, all the Spirits that were still alive and not otherwise occupied met up after Death and Fire called for them. It was an emergency meeting not unlike the last one, but that day was different nonetheless.
“He didn’t die? His World did not reject the Spawn?” The iridescent and ever-present voice of Light echoed relentlessly through the hall. “How? Did we not research the Worlds of the humans thoroughly all those years ago? Was that not one of the reasons we enslaved them in the first place? To create a group of humans capable of binding the Spawns to turn them against the Devourer. So that his progeny would consume him instead?”
“You are right.” Dead agreed in an even voice, her shadowy frame rippling outward. “We infused Primal Fragments into promising human Blessed to transform them. Their Worlds did change, if they survived the process, that is, but they never got to bind a Spawn.”
“What changed?” Light asked, posing the most obvious question.
“The Primal Heir was born with the Allfather’s Fragment. His World was highly compatible with all kinds of creatures from the beginning,” Volca spoke up this time. “His World is not a mutation created through a forced fusion of a Fragment. He is also bound to the Earthen Spirit.”
Death clicked her tongue and intercepted before Volca could say more. “He is not bound to the Earthen Spirit; the Primal Heir created the Earthen Spirit. Just like he–…”
“Just like he changed my Voice. The Elemental Phoenix.” The Fire Spirit completed, taking charge of the meeting again. He looked up at his siblings, his expression impossible to read in his faceless molten head. “Volix, the Elemental Phoenix, was tied to the Primal Heir for a short period. And, in that time, something about him changed. He is no longer part of me, making it impossible to fuse him seamlessly. I could force it, but that is not what we want, do we?”
“Your Voice gave birth to a Spirit Seed?” Glacia asked, her voice laced with surprise.
Volca turned to the enormous Behemoth of ice that had to be compressed to fit into the hall of the Spirits. Unlike most Spirits, Glacia never took it upon herself to adjust her appearance. She never bothered to transform into a humanoid creature like most of her siblings. She stayed true to herself, and so did her Voice.
“He did not give birth to a Spirit Seed. The Elemental Phoenix became one.” Volca clarified. “But with his recent death, the Spirit Seed died.”
“It is not dead.” Death commented. “It’s hibernating, likely waiting for the phoenix to rise again. Or to return to the Primal Heir.”
“Anyway…” Light called out, “What are we going to do about the Primal Heir? His World is unlike anything centuries of research concluded. Not only is he shaping Spirits, he successfully formed a bond with a Spawn. One that does not seem to be riddled with weakness.”
From the page the author publishes on, this chapter was copied without consent; reading the source version supports them.
That was right. Not only was the bond successful, but Adam Savier was still in control of himself. The reports confirmed that, though Glacia’s Knight had been particularly unhappy and snarky when he informed the Spirits about what had happened.
Putting aside Glacia’s petty pet, everything suggested that Adam Savier was the man they needed.
He may have collapsed closing his first Fracture, but his potential did not weaken. His potential burned as vibrantly as ever. At least, that was until he bonded with the Spawn. Ever since then, his potential had been a shroud of uncertainty. All the Spirits could confidently say was that his potential hadn’t decreased. If so, they would have known. For the Primal Heir had the potential to surpass them all. He was fated to become a creature greater than the limits of the cosmos.
And, hopefully, he had enough time to grow into the mighty being his potential promised he would become. If not…if he wasn’t given enough time, Volca and the other Spirits would do everything in their power to help. Even if that meant death.
“We went astray,” Death called out with a smile. “We need to strengthen the Primal Heir. And we need to figure out if the Primal Fragments in our possession can help us create more Primal Scions.”
“Or we will focus on the Primal Heir and bestow upon him the remaining Fragments. To reunite Allfather’s power in one vessel.” Light called out. “We experimented for centuries and failed again and again. Adam Savier appears to be different. And if he can truly control the Spawn, we should nurture him with everything at our disposal.”
“Everything?” Death asked, only for Glacia to speak up at the same time.
“Do you truly mean that?” She asked.
“Of course.” Light said, his brilliant form flashing even brighter than before. “If he has the potential to create Spirits, he may also resurrect those who failed to escape alongside us. He should bind with Jura and become an Emperor as quickly as possible to resurrect Darkness.”
“The Primal should also bind with the Elemental Phoenix again, shaping a second Spirit of Fire.” He added, looking like he had even more to say.
“You want Thyria to return, do you not? Whether it is to sacrifice her power to shape the young World Tree bound to the Primal into a True Spirit or to bind to him as well.” Glacia said the words Light didn’t dare utter.
“Free Thyria? We cannot do that.” Volca shook his head, but he too hesitated. The resurrection of the Earthen Spirit may have changed Thyria’s opinion of the human race. For it was none other than a human who made it all happen. There was only one problem; the Earthen Spirit was no longer Garus. Their brother was no longer with them, and the rise of a new Earthen Spirit made it clear that he would never return either.
Still, maybe – just maybe – bringing Thyria back from the fragmented dimension was exactly what they needed.
They had to change something, and the Spirits doubted Thyria would put her own kind into harm’s way. So, at the very least, the Primal Heir would be fine. As long as the young World Tree remained safe.
“We have many decisions to make. Times are changing.” Volca spoke up. “The Devourer is coming, and we will put an end to his terrors. That is what we were created for, and it is what we will do.”
The Spirits nodded slowly. They clung to life, yet they too knew that they had lived the lives of many. If their time was coming to an end, so be it.
But that did not mean they would leave without a fight. No, they would fight until the very last bit of their Essence dispersed. That was what they promised the Allfather, and they would be damned if they could not even keep the promise to the only being that had sacrificed everything to protect everyone.
