Chapter 722 Why Did We Have to Fall for the Same Person?
“Senior, what are you talking about?”
Xiao Mo said with a smile.
“It’s my honor that you could attend my wedding, Senior. How could I possibly ask you to leave?”
“Besides, Jun Meng has been desperately hoping to invite you to the wedding banquet, but we couldn’t find your residence and didn’t know where to send the invitation. If Jun Meng knew you were really here, she would be absolutely overjoyed.”
“You’ve got a silver tongue, kid. No wonder my granddaughter is so smitten with you.” Gui Ning looked at Xiao Mo with satisfaction and said, “Alright, enough talk. This old man is thirsty. I’m going in for a few cups of tea.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Gui Ning, without any ceremony, walked straight into the Daoist temple.
Inside Seeking Immortal Temple, everyone’s eyes turned to Gui Ning in unison.
“What are you looking at? Never seen a cripple before?”
Gui Ning waved his hand dismissively, found a random table to sit at, poured himself a cup of tea, and began to drink with an air of complete nonchalance.
“Senior Gui, it has been a long time.” Yun Xi walked to Gui Ning’s side and bowed respectfully.
“Young Girl Yun, it has indeed been a long time.” Gui Ning looked at the Temple Master of Seeking Immortal Temple. “Thank you for taking care of my granddaughter all these years.”
“Jun Meng has never been any trouble. She started helping out around Seeking Immortal Temple when she was very young. She’s a very sensible girl,” Daoist Yun Xi said slowly.
“Yes, both she and her sister are very sensible…” Gui Ning lifted his teacup and took a sip, looking as though he were drinking wine.
Setting down the cup, Gui Ning couldn’t help but sigh. “But how could two such sensible girls fall for the same man…”
…
“Xiao Mo, congratulations.”
Outside the gates of Seeking Immortal Temple, Tushan Xinhua looked at Xiao Mo. Her expression was somewhat complicated, but she still offered her congratulations with a smile.
“Thank you, Madam.” Xiao Mo bowed, then pointed to a nearby mountain peak. “Jun Meng is living there. You can go directly to her, Madam. I’m sure Jing Ci misses you very much as well.”
Tushan Xinhua’s lips parted slightly as if she wanted to say something, but in the end, the thousand words on the tip of her tongue were reduced to a gentle nod. “Thanks.”
After saying her thanks, Tushan Xinhua turned and flew toward the mountain where Gui Junmeng was.
Before long, Tushan Xinhua landed halfway up the mountain.
She could hear waves of joyous laughter coming from the courtyard.
She watched the young women of Seeking Immortal Temple, chirping and flitting about the courtyard like orioles and swallows, bustling with work while teasing one another.
Tushan Xinhua’s heart couldn’t help but beat faster.
The guilt in her heart made her afraid to face her daughter, yet at the same time, it filled her with an immense longing to see her daughter on her wedding day.
She concealed her demon aura and walked to the courtyard gate, hesitating, her expression revealing a hint of unease.
“Excuse me, miss, you’ve come to the wrong place. This isn’t the main hall of Seeking Immortal Temple.”
Noticing the woman standing outside the courtyard, Senior Sister Huang and the others stopped their playful banter and walked over to ask.
Senior Sister Huang and the others didn’t recognize Tushan Xinhua; after all, Tushan Xinhua had never appeared on the battlefield in all these years.
But they all felt that this beautiful woman bore a six-tenths resemblance to Jun Meng.
“Is Miss Gui available, by any chance?” Tushan Xinhua asked, her voice tinged with nervousness as she clenched her small hands.
“Oh, you’re looking for our junior sister. Please wait a moment.” Senior Sister Huang called into the courtyard, “Jun Meng! A beautiful lady is here to see you.”
“Okay…”
Gui Junmeng’s voice came from the room.
And when Gui Junmeng, dressed in her red wedding gown, walked into the courtyard and saw her mother at a glance, she froze.
“Jun Meng… It’s been a long time…” Tushan Xinhua said slowly, looking gently at her child.
“Greetings, Senior…” Gui Junmeng came back to her senses, gave a slight bow, and then opened the courtyard gate. “Would you like to come in for a cup of tea, Senior?”
“Then I’m afraid I’ll be intruding.”
Whenever Tushan Xinhua heard her daughter call her “Senior,” her heart would ache.
‘But she also knew, what right did she have to ask Jun Meng to call her anything else?’
Gui Junmeng led Tushan Xinhua into the room.
Senior Sister Lin and the others felt that the atmosphere between their junior sister and the beautiful woman was somewhat unusual.
And again, the two of them bore a six-tenths resemblance.
A suspicion began to form in their minds.
However, they couldn’t very well ask, so they tactfully led the other junior sisters back out to the courtyard to get busy, leaving the two of them alone in the room.
Gui Junmeng stood silently before her mother.
Only her hair remained to be styled. Her long, black hair cascaded over her shoulders like a waterfall, creating a striking and dazzling contrast with her crimson wedding gown.
Against the vibrant red, her skin appeared all the more fair and delicate. The sash at her waist gently cinched her slender frame, outlining a graceful and enchanting figure.
“Beautiful… so beautiful…” Tushan Xinhua’s eyes trembled slightly as she gazed at her daughter in the red wedding gown, and a thin mist began to form in the corners of her eyes.
Hearing her mother’s praise, Gui Junmeng couldn’t help but lower her head, her small hands gently fidgeting with her red sleeves. Her voice was as faint as a mosquito’s buzz. “Thank you…”
“Jun Meng, um… C-could I comb your hair for you?” Tushan Xinhua asked slowly, her tone cautious, as if terrified of being refused.
Before the words were even out, Tushan Xinhua quickly added, “It’s fine if you don’t want me to. I just…”
“Y-you can…”
Gui Junmeng softly interrupted Tushan Xinhua’s words.
After speaking, Gui Junmeng walked to the vanity, gently smoothed her wedding gown, and slowly sat down.
Tushan Xinhua hadn’t expected Jun Meng to actually agree. Her heart trembled, and she hurried forward.
She picked up the comb from the vanity and began to brush her daughter’s waterfall of black hair, stroke by stroke.
Her movements were exceedingly gentle, as if she were afraid of hurting her in the slightest.
“With the first stroke, may your love as husband and wife last for all time.”
“With the second stroke, may you grow old with graying hair, respecting one another to a hundred years.”
“With the third stroke, may you be blessed with children, and your home be filled with joyous laughter.”
“With the fourth stroke, may gold and silver pile high, and your family enjoy wealth and honor for generations.”
“With the fifth stroke, may good fortune come in pairs, and may all go smoothly, with no cause for grief.”
“With the sixth stroke, may good health be your companion, and may you live a long and happy life.”
“…”
With every stroke of the comb through Gui Junmeng’s hair, Tushan Xinhua would softly recite a line of the auspicious blessing, her gentle voice echoing in the small room.
By the time the blessing was finished, Gui Junmeng’s waterfall of black hair was neatly combed. After putting on the festive red hair ornaments and pins, she looked even more radiant and captivating.
“There.” Tushan Xinhua smiled as she studied her daughter in the mirror, her tone tinged with reluctance to part. “Your husband will be here to escort you soon. I should go now and not disturb you.”
After speaking, she took one last, deep look at her daughter, put down the comb, and turned to leave.
However, just as Tushan Xinhua took her first step, Gui Junmeng suddenly reached out, her slender fingers gently taking hold of her wrist.
“Th-thank you…”
Gui Junmeng looked up, gazing nervously at the woman before her. Her lips trembled slightly, as if she were mustering all her courage.
“Mo… Mother…”
Hearing her daughter’s call, Tushan Xinhua froze for a moment, her eyes trembling as if something had struck the softest part of her heart.
“Jun Meng… w-what did you call me?” Her voice trembled, and she could hardly believe her ears.
“Mo… Mother…” A faint blush appeared on Gui Junmeng’s cheeks as she called out softly again. “Can I call you…”
Before the rest of her question could leave her lips,
Tushan Xinhua spun around and pulled her daughter into a tight embrace.
Tears streamed silently from the reddened corners of Tushan Xinhua’s eyes, drop by drop, soaking the shoulder of Gui Junmeng’s red wedding gown.
“Yes!”
She answered, her voice trembling uncontrollably.
“Yes!”
She answered again, louder this time.
“Yes! Yes! Yes!”
She answered again and again, tears streaming down her face, yet the corners of her mouth curved up in a happy smile, like a crescent moon.
