Chapter 332: Chapter 331: Chen Guoqiao Keeps No Useless People Around

「An hour later.」

Douhu Entertainment’s official account posted a notice.

They had filed a lawsuit against the person who posted the video, the people who spread the rumors, the people stirring up trouble on Little Broken Station, and Little Broken Station as a whole.

Douhu Entertainment was no pushover, and their streamers were not to be trifled with. From now on, anyone who dared to spout nonsense, spread rumors, or slander them for clout would pay the price.

By issuing such a statement, Douhu Entertainment had openly taken a stand against Little Broken Station, effectively boycotting them.

And so, at the headquarters of Little Broken Station, Chen Guoqiao was utterly furious when he heard the news.

"SMACK!"

Chen Guoqiao slapped Bao An across the face with what must have been eighty or ninety percent of his strength, nearly sending him staggering to the ground.

"Useless! A bunch of useless trash!"

After hitting him, Chen Guoqiao himself was panting, his greasy, flabby face jiggling up and down.

"What the hell do I keep you people around for?"

"You can’t even handle a small matter like this! What good are you?!"

How old were those two siblings?

They couldn’t even deal with two kids. If that wasn’t useless, what was?

Still fuming, he snatched a stack of files from his desk and hurled them at Bao An’s head. Luckily, they weren’t sharp objects. The blow only left Bao An with a swollen forehead; it didn’t kill him.

Still, Bao An trembled with fear.

He knew Chen Guoqiao’s methods and the consequences of angering him.

So, he hung his head and took it for a moment, then actually dropped to his knees. It was clear from Chen Guoqiao’s non-reaction that Bao An kneeling before him was not a new occurrence.

Once Chen Guoqiao finally calmed down, Bao An breathed a sigh of relief. After repeatedly promising he wouldn’t make another mistake, he walked out of the office with his head down, not saying a word.

The moment the door clicked shut, he brushed the dust off his clothes and resumed his usual elite demeanor. His expression instantly shifted from cowering to ice-cold as he cast a casual, sideways glance at the office behind him.

’If it weren’t for ambition, if it weren’t for the money, who would follow a psycho like Chen Guoqiao around every day?’

’Just you wait. One day, I’ll pay you back for every time you’ve cursed me, every time you’ve hit me.’

Bao An thought coldly.

...

From the orchestrated smear campaign against Lin Xiaoman to Douhu Entertainment’s public announcement...

A lot had happened in between, but though the events were numerous, they all took place within a single day.

The main and supporting players in this drama were already mentally and physically exhausted, feeling as if they had experienced all of life’s major ups and downs in just one day.

Seeing that his sister was fine, Lin Feng didn’t say much more. He first drove Lin Xiaoman home, then took Su Ruoxi out for a drive to clear their heads.

After driving a loop around the city, Lin Feng parked the car by a bridge. He got out with Su Ruoxi, and the two of them leaned against the railing, gazing into the distance.

"Tired?"

Su Ruoxi asked, noticing Lin Feng looked a bit drowsy.

Lin Feng shook his head, took her hand, and said with a smile,

"Not so much tired... It’s just that in a single day, I feel like I’ve seen right through human nature."

It seems there are only two kinds of people in this world.

The first kind are those who like you. Even if they’re strangers who say they don’t know you, their first impression is a faint, heartfelt fondness for a kindred spirit.

The other kind are those who hate you for no reason, who spend their days looking for trouble instead of just living a good life.

The incident with Lin Xiaoman had really made Lin Feng understand a lot.

He used to think that most people in the world were reasonable, and that the muddle-headed ones who constantly spouted nonsense were a minority.

But now it seemed there were also people who, even when they were clear-headed, wouldn’t bother to think things through and engage their reason when something happened.

Of course, there were also those who simply pretended to be ignorant for money.

These people build their own happiness on the suffering of others. They couldn’t care less if others lived or died.

The higher you stand, the more of these people you encounter.

Lin Feng leaned over the bridge’s railing, squinting at the dazzling lights of the city in the distance, his mood quite complex.

[Ding! Congratulations, Host. Your philosophical level has increased.]

Lin Feng was startled by the system’s sudden, jarring appearance, and his drowsiness vanished instantly.

At that moment, he didn’t know whether to thank the system or curse it for being so annoying.

Ever since he got this system, he’d become rich and gotten a beautiful girlfriend, but sometimes, he just felt so tired of living.

He spent every day thinking about how to deal with enemies and how to make money.

Sighing, Lin Feng shook his head vigorously, trying to shake off all those messy thoughts.

Since he had already come this far, there was no turning back. He might as well take it one step at a time. His fate was in his own hands, not in the hands of heaven.

If you don’t try, how will you ever know what the future holds?

They stayed on the bridge for a while. As the sky grew darker, it began to get cold.

Lin Feng took off his jacket and draped it over Su Ruoxi’s shoulders. He led her back to the car, planning to take her for a late-night snack before heading back.

「The next morning.」

He woke up, feeling refreshed, with his girlfriend in his arms. But before he could even enjoy the fresh morning air, a piercing ringtone shattered his lingering drowsiness.

He gently patted Su Ruoxi’s back, signaling for her to keep sleeping and not to worry about it. Annoyed, Lin Feng grabbed his phone, got up, and went out of the room to answer it.

"Hello, is this Mr. Lin Feng?"

A sweet female voice came through the line.

The fact that the caller was a woman did nothing to improve Lin Feng’s temper. He just grunted a cold "Mm."

If this woman didn’t have anything important to say, she couldn’t blame him for being rude.

The woman was clearly good at reading people. She could tell from Lin Feng’s voice that he was displeased, so she made her own voice much softer, her tone and attitude becoming far more amiable than before:

"Hello, Mr. Lin Feng. I’m the secretary to Mr. Chen Guoqiao, the president of Little Broken Station. Our President Chen has heard a lot about you and would like to invite you to a meal. I was wondering if you might have some time?"

The sickeningly sweet tone made the hairs on Lin Feng’s arms stand on end. ’Doesn’t this woman find her own voice disgusting?’

He didn’t say anything for a long moment, so the secretary hesitated before speaking again.

"Mr. Lin?"

Lin Feng rubbed the bridge of his nose and took a deep breath. "Miss Secretary, may I ask what time it is right now?"

Chen Guoqiao’s secretary froze for a second, but her professional training allowed her to recover quickly. She immediately glanced at the time.

"Mr. Lin, it’s six-thirty in the morning."

"Great."

Lin Feng let out a soft, gentle laugh.

"Six-thirty in the morning. Do you think this is an appropriate time to be inviting someone to a meal?"

"Also, can you please speak normally? Listening to you makes my skin crawl. Is this how your president teaches his employees to behave?"

With that, he unceremoniously hung up. If he had to listen to that cloyingly sweet voice for another second, he was afraid he might actually throw up.

On the other end of the line, Chen Guoqiao’s secretary felt deeply wronged. She had only called so early because Chen Guoqiao had been relentlessly pressuring her; she’d had no choice.

As for her voice, she admitted she had a habit of speaking in a softer, higher pitch to men, but that wasn’t her fault either.

Chen Guoqiao rarely gave women a hard time, especially those with whom he had some sort of relationship. After consoling his secretary, he handed the task over to Bao An.

"If you can’t get it done this time, you don’t have to stay."

He, Chen Guoqiao, did not keep useless people around.

To avoid being rejected without even getting a meeting, Chen Guoqiao gritted his teeth and went directly to Douhu Entertainment to see Lin Feng.
