Beg Me Like You Mean It, Captain
Chapter 180: Fidora and Brad walked in
Reid immediately dropped to his knees beside the bed, taking my trembling hands in his.
He reached for the black pouch on the nightstand, breaking the vacuum seal with a sharp rip. He pulled out the dark blister pack containing the high-dose synthetic emergency pills.
"This is it," Reid murmured, his grey eyes locked on mine, heavy with a mixture of raw guilt and desperate relief. "Take this, Kain. Once the worst of it is over, we’ll get you on the IV, and we let your body flush it all out."
I stared at the white pills in his hand. My chest heaved, my heart hammering against my ribs as the weight of missing Game 2 settled over me. I reached out, my cold fingers brushing against his as I prepared to take the pack from him.
Click.
The suite’s double doors suddenly swung wide open.
"I’m telling you, Brad, the consultant said Suite 404 is down this hall—"
A sharp, authoritative female voice cut through the quiet room, followed by the soft rustle of expensive silk and heavy leather boots stepping over the threshold.
My blood ran completely, utterly ice-cold.
Standing in the doorway was Fidora McCoy—Reid’s formidable, sharp-eyed Alpha mother—wearing a tailored blazer, her dark hair pulled back flawlessly. Right beside her was Brad, Reid’s quiet, gentle Omega father, holding a thick folder of medical records.
But... What are they doing here?
Unknown to me, they had been secretly visiting the clinic for specialized fertility and conception checkups—a private matter they had kept entirely buried from their son. Brad had gotten confused by the maze-like VIP hallway, pulling Fidora into the wrong suite.
The silence that exploded in the room was deafening.
Fidora stopped dead in her tracks, her sharp eyes widening in sheer shock. Beside her, Brad gasped, his hand flying to his mouth.
They weren’t looking at a random patient. They were looking at their son—knelt on the floor of an Omega-only private clinic, his scent heavy with protective, territorial Alpha pheromones, holding a blister pack of high-grade emergency contraceptives—and Captain Kain Evans, sitting on the bed in a thick turtleneck, looking pale, exhausted, and visibly wrecked.
"Reid...?" Fidora choked out, her voice dropping into a deadly, thunderous register as her eyes darted from her son to me. "What in God’s name are you doing here? Why is Kain Evans in an Omega facility?!"
Panic, raw and blinding, exploded through Reid’s system. His Alpha instincts screamed at the sudden intrusion into our private space. In a split-second, knee-jerk reaction to shield me from his mother’s piercing gaze, Reid violently jumped to his feet, throwing his massive frame forward to block her line of sight.
In the chaotic, frantic collision, Reid’s arm slammed hard against the bedside table.
The pills and blister pack shot out of his hand, flying through the air.
Clack!
The package struck the edge of the open biohazard disposal unit, bouncing off the metal lip and plunging straight down into the murky, liquid chemical neutralizer at the bottom of the container.
A faint, hissing sound echoed from inside the bin as the aggressive chemical solvent instantly dissolved the thin foil and melted the pills into a useless, contaminated sludge.
My heart didn’t just stop—it felt like it was violently ripped out of my chest.
"No..." I gasped, my raspy voice breaking as I stared in absolute horror at the blinking yellow light of the biohazard unit. The pills were gone. Completely, irrecoverably destroyed. I knew I had a bad feeling about that thing. I just knew it.
"Reid!" Fidora barked, stepping forcefully into the room, her dominant Alpha aura flaring in the tight space. "Answer me right now! What is going on here?! Why are you reeking of rut pheromones, and why is your Captain sitting in an Omega suite?!"
Reid stood frozen, his chest heaving, his fists clenched so tight his knuckles were stark white. He looked at the biohazard bin, then at my pale, terrifyingly bare face, and finally at his mother. His grey eyes flashed dark with a volatile, defensive rage.
"Get out, Mom," Reid growled, his voice dropping into a guttural, lethal snarl. "Get the fuck out. You’re not supposed to be here!"
"Don’t you dare speak to me like that!" Fidora snapped, her eyes narrowing as she stepped closer, her sharp gaze locking onto the base of my neck where the heavy scent-blockers were struggling to contain the lingering, sweet trace of orchid pheromones mixed with Reid’s frozen pine.
Fidora froze in her steps, shocked and filled with disbelief. "He... he smells like an Omega. Reid... is Kain an Omega?!"
Brad took a slow step forward, his eyes soft, horrified, and filled with a sudden, devastating realization as he looked at my trembling frame. "Fidora... look at him. His system... he’s in physical distress."
"I said get out!" Reid roared, stepping directly into his mother’s path, his broad shoulders completely screening me from her. "It’s none of your business! Leave!"
"None of my business?!" Fidora countered, her voice ringing out like a whip. "You are my son and it seems as clear as day that you just got out of a rut! You cannot deny that!" She shrieked at him before turning her gaze to me. "And him? He is your Captain! If he’s not a beta, and is actually an Omega, then... you two... you just rode out a rut in secret, didn’t you?" She looked like her world was crumbling right in front of her eyes. "Reid, do you have any idea what kind of scandal—"
Before the explosive argument could tear the room apart, the inner office door opened, and the clinic’s chief physician—a stern, middle-aged Omega specialist—stepped into the suite with a tablet in hand, completely oblivious to the war breaking out in the room.
"Mr. Evans, I have your initial blood panel and biological scan results back—" The doctor stopped, blinking at the tense stand-off between the McCoys, before looking down at his screen with a deeply troubled frown.
"Doctor, is something wrong with him?" Brad asked softly, his voice trembling as he bypassed Fidora and looked at the physician with deep, parental concern.
He wanted to defuse this argument in any way he could.
