Beneath the Red Dragon
Chapter 880 154: The Arrival of Destruction (Part 2)
Until the reprimanding voices and reminders from those noble senior commanders and generals arose, until the war's shrill horn was sounded from every fortress segment's control point,
until the Spiritual Light of Magic cast by the noble Caster Corps swept over the defensive lines under their charge like a tide, finally awakening the warriors who briefly lost their courage.
"Courage and resilience!"
"Spiritual surge!"
"High spirits!"
The Magic for courage and morale enhancement, with added beneficial effects, shone brightly from the Magic Staffs of the noble Caster Corps.
At each control point along the defensive line, in platforms built from solid granite, pillars of light etched with complex runes began to shine, and the surging Magic Elements were drawn from the Magic Springs and Nodes within the Dorabi Mountain Range.
These Caster Corps relied on the Magic Nodes' control, possessing far superior Magic regeneration ability and Magic Effectiveness power on the Magic Nodes' control platforms compared to other similar level Mages.
This allowed the noble Caster Corps to freely bestow essential spells upon their warriors at the onset of battle.
And these Watchtowers and platforms established around Magic Nodes highlighted the exquisite Magic Knowledge held by the Southern Nobles.
Unlike the Golden Empire's Royal Capital, which is shrouded in a Magic Defense Barrier, the entire Dorabi City opted to set up individual defense energy barriers at each Watchtower's Magic Node.
The benefit was that breaking a single Watchtower couldn't destroy the entire Magic transmission pathway unless the enemy destroyed the entire Marino Defense Line.
And though the Dorabi City itself lacked defenses, the entire city was under the control of the elevated points of the city walls; even an adult Giant Dragon daring to land anywhere would instantly be shattered by the defensive system.
Amid the reprimanding voices from the high-ranking commanders stationed at each Watchtower Node, the Legion Warriors of the entire defensive line started to spring into action.
As the Giants, Ogres, Earth Goblins, and monsters had already rushed to within range of the defensive strike line, their charging speed seemed to increase.
"Prepare the rolling logs and stones, release!"
The frantic shouting of commanders echoed from each Node.
Legion Warriors of the Nobility roared with defiance under the looming threat of death, heaving giant logs, meters in length, from the defensive walls' lines, pushing them from the rampart's low segments.
Newly recruited soldier corps were responsible for catapult artillery, flinging large, rough-milled stone projectiles from atop the towering city walls.
Rumbling,
massive logs and stone spheres tumbled down the slopes. While on the plains, any Giant could easily lift these massive logs and stones that required several humans to carry,
the added potential energy endowed these ordinary objects with unprecedented power, smashing Ogres and Giant Demons that couldn't evade them into flat pulp, crashing over or launching over these monsters' bodies.
Even Hill Giants struck by these logs and stones would be knocked off the slope by massive potential energy, rolling down in a tumble, survival uncertain.
"Fools, fools, you foolish creatures, with brains filled with wild dog dung,"
the clever Giant Commander selected from the Golden Empire's lower officers ducked away from an oncoming stone that bounced and splintered ceaselessly on the hillside, then rose to cleave a friction-worn log with an axe, bellowing loudly.
"Those who use weak dog-shit spells, use your feeble strength, and those who want to withstand, are your brains and flesh harder than stone?"
"Spread out, spread out, don't mass charge! Identify where the rocks will land in advance, dodge carefully, follow me along!"
Countless Giants roared back into the charge.
"Archers ready, prepare for indirect fire!"
The Nobility Corps commanders on the city's defenses watched coldly, waving their hands as arrows fell like rain from the sky. Many arrows struck the Wooden Shields held by the Giants and monsters; some found vulnerable spots, piercing the napes of these creatures.
Buzz, buzz, buzz
Magic-guided Heavy Cannons began to elevate their heavy barrels on their battlements, targeting the densely grouped Giants and monsters, unleashing the formidable power of these engines of war.
Above, the Imperial Dragon King observed the city defenses, remained still yet aimed the majority of its alchemical weapons, Armor-Piercing Crossbows, Dwarven 'Mordain's Fury,' and various Magic-guided Heavy Cannons skyward, with the Mage Legions in rigorous readiness. These Dragon Kings began to move.
Gomot, the White Dragon King, with a grim and fierce face, displayed an entirely indifferent demeanor and issued his command. Thunderous words echoed across the sky.
"Prepare to drop the Golem Legion, let the Golem Legion draw their fire!"
Then, dozens of massive Demon Dragons began descending from the sky, piloted by Dragon Knights, descending to the point just outside the range limit of the anti-air weapons and Mage Corps' spell strikes. They were lightly reined in by their riders.
Then these majestic Demon Dragons growled deeply, advancing forward, and at the designated position released the various rocky Golems, Steel Armored Golems, and Clay Golems from their enormous talon holds.
