Beneath the Red Dragon
Chapter 896: Three Armies, One Hundred Thousand Strong, Sweep Seventy Cities of Three Nations! (Part 3)_2
The Elves’ sword dance could easily tear and smash the strong Knights, but even though these Elves are powerful, their influence is quite limited on a battlefield with tens of thousands.
In a war era without long-range firepower strikes covering the battlefield, all wars are slaughterhouses of flesh and blood.
“Encircle, encircle them!”
“Raise the Heavy Shields, do not tilt them, the Knights won’t be able to leverage themselves off the Heavy Shields!”
Each Imperial Legion captain shouted orders loudly amid the intense battle cries, yet their commands were drowned out by the roar of Holy Knight Lea, resembling that of a Beast.
“Charge with me, do not stop, the Southern Eagle does not fear death, victory is within sight!”
Lea noticed the charging Noble Knights were slowing down, those beside him let out Beast-like howls, using all their strength yet forced to halt, knocked down, struck down.
The Knights’ Armor cracked, dented, shattered; the flesh inside had long turned to mush.
Lea was not in better condition; his Heavy Armor was damaged in many places, several broken Long Spears pierced through his Heavy Armor and body, steaming blood flowed like water down the spear shafts.
Each swing of his Giant Sword, each surge of the Seed of Power, inflicted unimaginable wounds on this Holy Knight’s body.
Yet the adrenaline in his body and the self-sacrificing courage of the Holy Knight made Lea forget the pain; his eyes solely locked on the huge fluttering Royal Banner.
In this moment, he was like the ephemeral Mayfly, longing to see the dazzling sunset.
In Aikania’s world, Lea, one among many races, billions of beings, seemed so small and fragile before the Golden Empire and Dragons, yet he erupted into a sound of persistence.
Within him, the Seed of Power surged to an unprecedented level, the intense surging power nearly turned Lea’s Giant Sword into a blazing beam, cleaving through rows of Heavy Shields.
The lingering force of the Giant Sword turned into rays of conical sword energy, cleaving Warriors and Armor in half behind the Heavy Shields.
But before he could catch even a breath, a Warrior from the Legion formation leapt up and smashed down with a Heavy Hammer.
The power seemed like a Beast awakening from slumber, roaring as it burst from Gilenis’ body, the intense waves rolling out from Gilenis’s body and weapon.
At this moment, Gilenis dismissed all techniques, unleashing pure brutality on the charging Holy Knight.
Heavy Armor strode forth in a surging dust wave, unstoppable.
Holy Knight Lea also roared fiercely, swinging his Giant Sword towards the terrifying Warrior’s descending Heavy Hammer, with unstoppable momentum, the Giant Sword’s cold steel body nearly invisible.
In large-scale warfare, complex dueling techniques are insignificant, no probing or subtlety, battle and slashing occur in an instant, victory and death decided in that moment.
Clang!
The clash between Giant Sword and Heavy Hammer sounded like thunder in the ears of all Warriors, a fierce impact making Holy Knight Lea let out an unwilling howl, his body and the reins snapping away from his warhorse.
His massive figure flung like a leaf in a storm, crashing into several Noble Knights behind and beside him.
The tremendous force from the impact immediately caused both sides’ bodies to emit explosive crackling sounds.
Several Noble Knights struck by this formidable force exploded entirely, shattered Armor fragments and blood spraying everywhere.
Meanwhile, Lea’s body hovered in mid-air over the reforming Heavy Shield lines, then skewered by thrusting upright Long Spears, suspended in the air.
No gushing blood, as this Holy Knight’s blood was nearly run dry.
“Ugh…”
Holy Knight Lea finally realized his once powerful body, capable of enduring overnight battles with numerous women, could no longer bear the burden, even turning his head was an arduous task.
In Lea’s peripheral vision, he saw the Noble Knights following him being cut down and slaughtered by the Golden Empire’s Legion, countless Knights directly speared to death.
He also saw the Noble Knights’ Alliance corps, still not breaking the Golden Empire’s Heavy Shield lines, annihilated one by one in the Dark Knight Corps and Golden Empire’s Heavy Cavalry Corps’ encirclement and charge.
The Golden Empire commanders remained calm and fierce, maintaining an organized assault amidst the chaos, cutting off the remaining ten thousand Noble Knights.
The entire battlefield divided into sections unable to support each other, and those Noble Knights were quickly devoured from the sides and rear by the Golden Empire’s Heavy Cavalry Corps.
All Knights roared the fiercest battle cry of their lives amidst swirling dust, brandishing Steel Blades and Iron Swords.
Everyone fought desperately for survival, Plains littered with corpses of the Golden Empire and Noble Alliance Warriors.
Lea’s diminishing vision faded as those Noble Knights’ heads and bodies fell, etched in his mind was the Dragon Emperor’s sinister bone-spurred claw gently caressing a young Red Dragon’s huge head.
In his last second alive, Lea could no longer determine what he fought for, perhaps his country, or his interests and status, or perhaps for justice.
But it no longer mattered; regardless, he had done his utmost.
The sun set, the remnants as red as blood.
The battle was fierce yet extremely brief; as the warfare subsided on the Plain, countless resting soldiers reorganized, and Dorabi City’s gates swung open at that moment.
Since the Marino Duchy’s founding, Dorabi City had never fallen, built over millennia and fortified anew, the Marino Defense Line, dubbed unbreakable in the Mortal World, concluded its chapter in Aikania’s world history.
Compared to the Southern Noble Alliance losses, the Golden Empire and the Alliance of Kings’ losses were negligible.
This battle depleted the Southern Noble Alliance’s strongest mobile corps power, including the entirely Extraordinary Knights Rose Knight Order and the air corps trained at great expense by the Nobles.
Half of the tens of thousands of Noble Corps died by the hands of Dragons and Giants before the Golden Empire and the Kings decided to accept the surrender of surviving Warriors.
This might be a massacre, but Karon Gogomola and the Kings didn’t care, for the battlefield holds no justice or mercy, only victory and defeat, survival and death.
The defeated have no power to define, the dead have no voice to roar, that’s all there is.
Under the Golden Empire’s Royal Banner, Imperial Legions and Civilian Labor Camp began to methodically enter Dorabi, this pass-through city.
As for the Monster Corps and Giant Legion from the Divine Forsaken Mountain Range, they were left by Multi-armed Giant Mogyes on Dorabi City Wall for vigilance and defense.
Even Multi-armed Giant Mogyes lacked confidence to maintain good order if these Giants and Monsters entered the city.
After all, binding Monsters and Giants of the Divine Forsaken Mountain Range to order is premature, unlike the disciplined Golden Empire Legions.
The bustling people in the pass-through city connecting Northern Border South and North had long retreated into their homes, peeking through door and window cracks at the Northern Dragon Group.
As per the proclamations, the Golden Empire Legions indeed did not invade city residents’ homes for pillage, replacing the residents’ fear and worry with confusion.
For Karon Gogomola, these residents may be future resources, but obviously not compared to the wealth amassed by Nobles and rulers.
The city’s foodstocks, armaments, material reserves, citizen registry, and various knowledge records were the primary targets of the Golden Empire’s occupation; the wealth accumulated by surrendering minor Nobles and Knights far surpassing ordinary residents.
As Karon Gogomola’s Royal Banner stood central in the city, continuous shouts rang from the surrounding city walls.
“Long live the Empire!”
Dragons bow, Giants rise, the first battle of the Kings, unstoppable.
