Chapter 314: Bored Spectacle

*Strike* *Leap* *Slash*

A swing in the front before jumping across for a slash to the back.

“Ooh!? Ah!?” The monkey-naga let out a sound of distress upon receiving the two critical blows. Emmie’s attacks left two large wounds that seem farcical when the size difference was taken into account. The hulking beast is losing badly to someone who is barely larger than one of its eyes.

*Slash* *Slash* *Slice* *Dice*

Before it could even begin to retaliate, it was sliced to pieces without making a single move, ending the encounter against what should be this area’s Titayrant. It should be the apex predator of the area, but unfortunately it has to encounter someone who won’t give it face.

The eye of the mogall began to wander after Emmie landed back down and walked away from the diced up corpse… Perhaps it is better to say that it had been wandering off for a while now. I don’t even know how it could get motion sick, but that seems to be what its body language is implying.

“Karra.” Emmie suddenly said while not facing me, her expression unreadable from this angle but most likely remained static.

“What is it?” I asked. Spooked me a little bit, and also quite concerning.

“This trip is boring.” Oh no… “I need a different outlet.”

She then turned around and stared at me, her face remaining calm but still holding her scythe.

*Dim* *Crackle*

“Hey! Wait a second!” Can’t you give me a little bit of time to prepare!? Also, can’t you be a bit mindful of the class pet? It looks like it’s going to puke out of its nonexistent mouth!

*Dash* *Clash* *Clang* *Parry*

She quickly closed the distance between us and began attacking. It’s terrifying to think that this is her holding back. I don’t really know when it happened, but the gap in strength between her and the rest of us widened at an unprecedented rate. While she was always capable of defeating any one of us before, right now even the entire class discounting Wiina going against her wouldn’t be enough.

*Clash* *Clang* *Launch*

“Gah!?” She swung her scythe a little bit too strong and I got launched into the sky. Not taking any damage but clearly not in control of the situation. I don’t have many ways of changing my midair trajectory compared to her, so being thrown into the sky is really bad.

*Leap* *Strike* *Crash*

She quickly caught up to me and swung her scythe down. I barely intercept the attack and even then I get sent straight down into the ground violently, creating a small crater from the impact.

*Swing* *Evade* *Swing* *Parry*

She landed back down much more gracefully than I am and continued the offense. There isn’t a good window of opportunity for me to retaliate just yet, so I am stuck on the defensive and hope she’ll slip up, purposefully or not.

*Parry* *Clang* *Block*

My dagger can only do so much to intercept that massive scythe of hers. Despite its size she can swing it around like it’s weightless, despite that not being the case at all. It’s heavy and hard for me to block or parry, and even if I did the latter the window of vulnerability is too short for me to fight back.

*Swing* *Hop* *Crack* *Crush*

I jumped over one of her horizontal swings with my back against the sea of trees, her scythe cutting through the trees in one fell swoop.

*Sizz* *Swing* *Block*

I swung my dagger down as I fell only for it to be easily blocked by that giant weapon, bouncing me back slightly.

*Clash* *Clang* *Parry* *Block* *Crash* *Crack*

She quickly resumed the earlier exchange, this time not even giving me any time to jump away or create any diversion. Her movements are swift and unforgiving, I can’t even jump out of the way of any trees or rocks in the way. Total disregard for the environment as I kept being pushed into them, crashing through them like both of us aren’t supposed to be squishy humans.

*Leap* *Slash*

I managed to jump away from an incoming scythe swing that left a massive gash in the ground and launched rocks and dirt everywhere like an explosion had just occurred. Each swing of her scythe let out enough pressure to destroy the environment. If this wasn't a special zone I would’ve been way more concerned about that kind of damage.

…I put a bit too much force in that jump. I am still flying up instead of falling down.

*Leap* *Swing* *Clang*

Emmie predictably jumped towards me and once again swung her scythe at me, making me fly off. This time she didn’t swing straight down, so I didn’t crash into the ground below immediately.

*Zip* *Strike*

“Gah!?” She then caught up to me, flying past and striking me in the back and sending me flying up. This is really bad! I have very little approach option in this precarious situation.

*Strike* *Crash*

Before I could even contemplate actually trying to fight midair, I already got struck down and crashed onto the cold hard floor. All the advantages she has aside, the power to move freely in the sky cannot be underestimated at all. She doesn’t even have a racial trait for it like Kenni does, and yet I doubt her control over the air is inferior to her.

Just using raw strength is far from enough, at least on my end.

*Sizz* *Blast*

I quickly reacted to her descending down on me with her scythe ready to swing down, throwing out a blast of flame that probably won’t do much to her.

*Swing* *Evade*

She still swings her scythe down, but barely misses me due to the fire blinding her and causing her to not be able to anticipate my next move, otherwise she could’ve easily predicted my next move and made any plans of playing hard to get impossible.

*Swing* *Block* *Swing* *Evade* *Clash* *Clang*

I tried to use that to my advantage and started to retaliate, but she held her scythe up in time to block the incoming slash and quickly swung her scythe back at me, but I managed to dodge it in time. We’re quickly reverting back to the routine that I think she has experienced plenty of times. As the one who usually holds the power advantage over her opponents, she rarely uses other approaches to battle and turns the entire thing into a slog since she held back so much. If she gets bored of it that is when things will turn ugly.

*Spark* *Crackle*

Uh oh…

*BOOM*

“Certainly a harsh mistress.” Kenni sarcastically remarked as we saw an explosion going off deep in the forest.

*Launch* *Zip* *Clash* *Crash*

Another instance of Karra being thrown into the sky and changing the location of their battle. Each area they are in is heavily damaged by the end. The magical properties of the land make it so that there isn’t much concern over a clash of two powerful individuals.

Emmie’s control over her midair movement is simply not something Karra can contend with even if she realizes what is happening. All of us can halt our movement and float there for a bit, or even push ourselves in a certain direction, but the freeform movement from Emmie, Kenni and Jennla is simply beyond the rest of us.

*Swing* *Crack* *Tumble* *Crash*

The two exchanges attacks and the environment around them quickly breaks down. Due to our current level of strength, anything that could hurt us would’ve caused levels of damage to the surroundings no normal punch or kick could’ve accomplished, the attacks would have the force akin to various demolition tools. While the force of these attacks tends to be fully absorbed if it hits its intended target, if it misses it tends to cause damage to whatever is unfortunate enough to be right behind the target. The trees and other foliage cannot withstand their attacks at all despite simply being set pieces neither really care for.

*Strike* *Crash*

Emmie threw Karra into a nearby mountain and quickly rushed towards her before Karra could recover. It’s hard to truly tell what is happening just based on their locations alone. They are quite far from everyone else. I can’t make accurate judgement based on sight.

“Had to say, that poor soul is probably panicking badly right now.” Kenni remarked after she nonchalantly killed another monster wandering into our area.

“Most likely. I don’t know its level of intelligence, but it clearly knows how much of a trouble Emmie is considering it trashed around inside the container.” I said while both of us observed the fight that is still raging on. They’re more like dots if we’re lucky, looking from so far away.

*Slash* *Slice* *Crash*

Suddenly the top of the mountain was cut clean off as the fight continued on, the top of it sliding off and no doubt crushing the greenery and monsters in its path.

“There’s the collateral damage I expected.” Kenni dryly remarked. With Emmie’s strength it would be impossible for such a spectacle to not occur. While any of us could do what she did, only she can really cause that level of damage from a failed attack. “Still hasn’t used anything from her bag of tricks. I guess she’s not worth it right now.”

“The gap is simply too wide. Any of her Special Abilities would’ve been overkill in this scenario. We don’t even know how much she has.” I pointed out. The only reason she used it in that virtual battle royale was because of the massive disparity in numbers. If we didn’t come at her all at once then she probably wouldn’t even bother using her unique abilities. There is only so much raw power can do against a massive crowd of people that have also trained in the way of combat and magic.

*Sizz* *BOOM*

Suddenly a massive explosion caused the rest of the mountain to explode. That is definitely not Emmie’s attack this time around.

“Looks like she is getting desperate.” Kenni remarked. Considering the fight has been going on for a few minutes at this point, it’s natural for Karra to want to end it. Emmie’s immense mana and stamina means that she would’ve lost anyway, so if slow and steady doesn’t seem to work, then this is the best thing she could do, at least presenting something a bit more flashy.

All the nearby monsters naturally ran away from the danger zone, despite being naturally hostile to humans they have some sense of self-preservation. Some of them are faulty in that regard, especially monsters inside the dungeon, but that is a conversation for another day.

“With that level of mana expenditure, the fight will settle down quickly.” I commented on the flash display. Not much else to be said.

“Too bad I didn’t join in at the start, this thing was distracting me.” Kenni said before turning to look at the corpse of the giant monkey and snake fusion. Despite what she said it only occupied her for a minute, and she was messing around for half of that.

*BOOM* *BOOM* *BOOM*

“Looking like a terrorist attack.” Kenni callously remarked at the spectacle of the battle before turning her attention to the monsters running our way. Some normal monsters and some apex predators. “Guess we’re stuck as a sideshow right now. Can’t say I’m a fan.”

“Let’s just deal with this quickly.” I said while readying to cast a spell to wipe them out.

*Dash* *Slash* *Slice* *Strike* *Slam*

Before either of us could actually start attacking, those two showed up and cleaned up the mess before we could.

“Great, those lovebirds…” Kenni complained as her opportunity for a slaughter was interrupted by Malk and Qyunda, they didn’t even stick around, simply running around and killing any monsters that ran away and merged into a huge tide.

*Slash* *Blast* *Boom* *Strike*

“Quite a war zone we got going on.” Kenni dryly said as the atmosphere of the area became more and more erratic with everyone running around and causing a lot of damage to this place.

“I suppose that is what happens when they’re not entertained.” I said while crossing my arms and accepted to simply watch the chaos unfold.
