When she heard Xiao Yize’s answer, Mo Qingning’s gaze dimmed in an instant.

She slowly withdrew her hand from his tight grasp, then stood up and walked toward the floor-to-ceiling window.

The nervousness and shyness from just now vanished in this moment.

“Is it only if the rice is cooked, or even if I’m carrying your baby, that the people in the Xiao family will accept me and acknowledge our relationship?”

“Yes.”

Xiao Yize’s reply sounded behind her without a second’s hesitation.

Staring at the moonlight outside the window, Mo Qingning suddenly felt a sting in her eyes.

But at the same time she steeled herself.

If they really had to do that just to have this relationship recognized, then she’d rather not.

Such approval was too ironic.

Besides, hadn’t they already agreed that even if they couldn’t get their parents’ blessing, they would rely on their own two hands and hard work to build a small home that belonged to them alone.

Thinking of this, Mo Qingning felt increasingly lost and sad.

She had thought they already understood each other very well; she had thought he would know her heart, but it turned out he didn’t…

“Yize, I think we…”

“Cooking the rice, or letting you get pregnant with my baby is indeed the fastest and most straightforward way to make my parents accept you, but Qingning, I care much more about how you feel.”

Just as Mo Qingning was feeling disappointed and hurt, thinking she needed to calm down, she suddenly heard these words from Xiao Yize.

The heartbeat that had seemed to vanish found its trace again in that instant.

Xiao Yize stepped forward, turning to walk up to Mo Qingning.

Lowering his eyes, he saw her reddened rims and the shimmer in her gaze, and his chest tightened in pain.

Without thinking, Xiao Yize opened his arms and pulled Mo Qingning into his embrace, holding her tightly.

“Qingning, you’re so silly.”

He said softly, full of tenderness, raising a hand to gently stroke her head.

“Can’t you feel that I never truly meant to do that? If I have to wrong your feelings just to cater to my parents, I’d rather be penniless for the rest of my life, as long as I’m with you. Because with you, I could have the whole world, do you understand?”

Hearing this, Mo Qingning froze in sudden realization.

She felt that the tender heart that had been cut open just a moment ago was quietly healed in that split second.

So he did understand her.

“Yize…”

“Dummy.”

Xiao Yize spoke gently and, after holding her for a long time, finally let go.

Seeing the tears still on her cheeks, he hurriedly lifted his hand to wipe them away.

The corners of his lips tugged into a small smile, his eyes filled with aching tenderness.

“My original intention was to have my parents accept you, because I always thought that only a marriage blessed by our parents could be truly happy.”

“The suggestion Chuxi gave me was also the right direction, because once my parents find out you’re carrying my baby, they’ll be over the moon.”

“But I know that if I really did it for that reason, you’d be upset, and I don’t want you to be unhappy.”

Listening to every heartfelt word that left his lips, Mo Qingning’s eyes grew wet again.

She felt his tenderness completely.

“Yize, I’m sorry, I misunderstood you just now. It’s all my big brother’s fault, why did he have to give you that idea!”

Mo Qingning sniffed, raising a hand to wipe the tears from her face.

Xiao Yize smiled.

“Chuxi was thinking about our future happiness.”

“I don’t care, I’m going to go complain to Saozi tomorrow and have her give my brother a good lesson!”

Even though she said that, Mo Qingning wasn’t stupid; of course she could also feel Mo Chuxi’s good intentions.
