Binding To The Monkey God
Chapter 29- Extra Firepower
Chapter 29: Chapter 29- Extra Firepower
[LEVEL UP x2]
The jingling sound made Alaric stir awake. He pulled himself from exhaustion and opened his eyes, searching the room he was currently in. He sat up and took a breath. He seemed to be alright, no lasting damage. Right... he passed out from a lack of mana. Which reminds him, the event! He still didn’t even know the result! He was about to pull himself from bed, but remembered the chime that played in his head. He looked to his right as his system window glowed in front of him. It began to list his stat points and even some brand new skills.
NEW SKILLS
Cloud Step
Rock Solid
SKILL POINTS: 10
He watched, right... he leveled up twice, who would’ve known that event would give him such a jump. But, he was currently worried about the nature of the skills he just got, he can worry about allocating his stat points later. He narrowed in on them, hoping for a description.
Cloud Step
Tier: B
Description: The user disperses into a cloud of mist, allowing for a possible escape, while also allowing for a sneak attack.
As he read, he was silently nodding to himself. So a sneak attack skill? Useful.
He moved on.
Rock Solid
Tier: C
Description- The user becomes solid like a rock, allowing the user to block and parry incoming attacks.
Now this one was unique. A non attacking skill, but still useful nonetheless, especially when he needed to become a tank. This certainly could’ve been useful in the last match... but regardless, he’s happy to have more diversity. He never knew Sun Wukong had so many abilities, and he hasn’t even reached the powers he knows about! He could only imagine. Now, last but not least he had to allocate his stat points. He has double the amount he usually gets since he leveled up twice!
He wondered to himself... If the last battle taught him anything, he needed more mana. Not just for his ever growing arsenal of skills, but to account for something like Skydancer, who used up his mana when it used a skill.
So putting at least half of those points into Intelligence was a given at this point, which would boost his mana and overall strength of his magic. And with the more skill he gets, if he didn’t do this now, his skills would fall behind significantly... he wondered how many people did that in this world?
Anyway, he still had five other points. He should point three of those into strength, after all, he’s still a physical fighter, even with all his skills. He hasn’t had much issue with his durability so Vitality wasn’t a necessity. So, he supposes he’ll pour the last two points into his Intelligence.

And with that, that was his update stat spread and arsenal. And he was happy with it. He sighed softly and leaned back into his bed. He was able to close his eyes back until the door to his medical room was thrown open, making him nearly jump out of his skin.
"Alaric!" Clorrissa called out alongside Arthur. They rushed inside and flanked his sides. "Are you feeling okay?" She wondered, kneeling beside him. "I’m fine..." he whispered softly, blushing softly. "Just a mana thing..."
Arthur folded his arms, "You didn’t have to push yourself for something that wasn’t even mandatory..." He said, a beat of sweat rolling down his head.
"Y-Yeah..." He blinked and lifted his head, "Speaking of which... did we win?"
Arthur’s eyebrows shot up, "Right.. Well. No. We didn’t." He said simply, as Alaric blinked as if waiting for a punchline that was never coming. His finger curled into the sheets of his bed.
"...What?"
"No. We didn’t win." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small slip of paper, "Here." He passed it over as Alaric grabbed it and let his eyes scan the words.
And sure enough... they had lost.
1st. Team 110- 79
2nd. Team 109- 72
They got beat by seven points...? He sighed and let the paper slip away from his grasp, floating down to rest against the mattress.
"Yeah... if the match went just a bit longer we would’ve taken first..." Arthur started, rubbing his neck as Clorrissa took over, "But their teamwork was so good that they were in the lead most of the match." The sorceress raised up, folding her hands in front of her, "...I’m sorry."
Alaric looked away, his eyes dimming. So, even after all that... he lost against him.
An image of Jiro, the man wielding the zeus, flashed in his mind. Did he fail to prove that the Monkey King system was the better choice? He laid back, his head resting against the pillow, "...It’s fine. After all, it wasn’t even a serious event. We did our best." He whispered, his voice wavering.
Clorrissa looked down and pressed her lips thin.
Alaric lifted his eyes and looked towards Arthur, "Oh, Arthur. I just wanted to thank you properly for what you did."
Arthur blinked and looked around before pointing at himself, "W-What did I do?"
"That plan you came up with. I just wanted to say thank you."
"A-Ah... no... I’m sure you would’ve seen it eventually." he replied, rubbing the back of his head with an embarrassed smile, his eyes glowing slightly. "Yeah, maybe, but that’s not the point. You spotted it even when I didn’t." He smiled softly, "And a teammate is there to help make up for his leader’s weakness and mistakes. So, seriously... Thank you." He lifted his fist as Arthur blinked. He felt his eyes turn glassy, but he closed them, a faint tear at the corner of his eyes. He smiled, and lifted his own fist, bumping the two against each other.
"No doubt. We will become the strongest. Together."
...
The roads were clear, safe for a few cars driving nearby, people walking along the sidewalk as well. They were chatting about their jobs, plans for the weekend, and their latest adventure as an upcoming hunter.
It was a peaceful atmosphere. But, as people passed people with long silver hair, they felt the air chill in an instant. It was enough to cause a lingering Frost bite if they stayed too close. They figured it was someone who still didn’t have a handle on their systems ability, and decided to give them a past.
The humanoid figured walked silently, it’s face hidden by its hair. As they walked, they shivered and let out a breath, mist escaping its mouth. It pulled its hands from its pockets, and mist escaped its hands, traveling through the city at a snail’s pace.
But... maybe this was enough. No. It would be. People will see...
