[BL] After SSS-rank mage reborn as the Legendary Craftsman
Chapter 185 The Zootopia Guild’s Healing Potion Formula
The Zootopia Guild’s Healing Potion formula relied on just two primary ingredients: Blood Leaf and Caspin root.
Kei read through the step-by-step instructions repeatedly. The Blood Leaf required grinding into a fine powder, whereas the Caspin root had to be simmered slowly until its active essence was extracted completely. Afterward, the two components were blended together in precise proportions.
The fabrication process itself wasn’t overly complex. However, the raw material consumption rate was staggeringly high.
If he wished to scale up production, Kei needed to figure out a way to extract the medicinal properties of the Blood Leaf and Caspin root to their absolute maximum potential. Once achieved, a single bottle of Healing Potion could be diluted into multiple smaller vials while retaining its original efficacy.
First and foremost, he had to establish the limitations of the conventional formula.
Kei brewed a batch of Healing Potion by hand, strictly adhering to the protocol provided by the Zootopia Guild. He weighed out the ingredients, pulverized the Blood Leaf, extracted the essence from the Caspin root, and heated the mixture inside a compact cauldron. A faintly bitter herbal aroma permeated the laboratory, mingling with the steam rising from the rim of the pot.
When the liquid shifted to a pale crimson hue, he extinguished the flame and waited for it to cool down slightly.
The inaugural Potion vial was officially complete.
Reaching out, Kei channeled the spell *[Efficiency Enhancement]*. A thin veil of radiance cascaded over the vial, rapidly seeping straight into the fluid contained within.
Next, he retrieved several manastones from his pouch, arranging them in a circle around an empty workspace on the table. The miniature stones formed a basic magic array, their channeling conduits linking together into a closed loop.
This represented the standard methodology practiced by mages to amplify the potency of magical potions. Kei positioned the Potion vial dead center within the array, then steadily channeled mana into the manastones to ignite the magic array.
A pale-blue luminescence flared brilliantly.
The geometric lines inscribed across the tabletop lit up successively, routing streams of mana toward the vial. The crimson fluid within trembled slightly, its color deepening steadily before stabilizing.
Kei waited until the magic array completely flickered out before picking up the vial.
Extracting a tiny droplet, he tested it against a minor scratch across his finger. The wound closed up rapidly, its recovery speed visibly superior to a standard Healing Potion.
The therapeutic efficacy had surged by over twofold.
Kei stared down at the vial resting in his palm, yet felt zero sense of elation.
“Still not enough.”
A twofold enhancement was a commendable result, but if his goal was to dilute it into multiple vials while preserving the baseline utility, he required an even higher performance threshold. If he relied exclusively on mana to directly fortify the finished product, the overall Potion output would remain permanently bottlenecked by the input quantity of raw ingredients.
He had to uncover an alternate approach.
Kei rummaged through his Divine Space Ring, sorting through the stack of texts Thunder had gifted him. Eventually, he pulled out a thick volume covering herbalogy. Its cover was frayed around the edges, several pages bookmarked with tiny paper slips.
He laid the text flat upon the table, flipping rapidly to the index.
The pages were densely packed with the names of medicinal herbs, their distinct properties, and their combinatory behaviors. Kei searched patiently for a long spell, cross-referencing every single annotation against the Zootopia Guild’s Potion recipe. He couldn’t afford to arbitrarily introduce a novel ingredient; the instant its chemical or magical properties conflicted with the Blood Leaf or Caspin root, the entire batch of brew would suffer total ruin.
Then, a specific name caught his attention.
Light Anise.
Kei read the descriptive entry with intense focus. This particular herb possessed zero inherent therapeutic value. It was typically utilized as a primary component in formulas formulated to craft antidotes. Nevertheless, Light Anise possessed the innate capacity to amplify energy-conversion efficiency within Potion solutions.
Certain Craftsmen went so far as to introduce a trace amount of Light Anise into Mana Recovery Potion formulas to optimize performance.
Kei tapped a finger softly against the textbook page.
If Light Anise could facilitate more efficient energy conversion within a Potion, it stood to reason that it might likewise unlock the full, unbridled medicinal potency of the Blood Leaf and Caspin root. Not to substitute the two primary ingredients, but to empower the human body to absorb the vital essence that would otherwise go to waste.
That hypothesis still demanded rigorous empirical verification. Yet this marked the premier viable trajectory.
Kei snapped the textbook shut, surged to his feet, and strode briskly out of the alchemy laboratory.
He located Helen within the supply sector, inspecting inventory crates alongside statistical spreadsheets. Kei immediately pressed forward:
“Helen-nim, do we have any Light Anise in stock?”
She looked mildly startled by his hurried demeanor, yet promptly brought up the inventory ledger on her tablet. Helen’s fingers swept across several lines before coming to a halt.
“Yes.”
Kei’s eyes lit up.
“How much is left?”
Helen fell silent for a brief beat, double-checking the figures before looking up with a reluctant expression.
“Only about ten plants.”
The smile upon Kei’s lips froze.
Helen exhaled a soft sigh.
“The Zootopia Guild practically never hoards this particular herb. It sees minimal application in mainstream Potion formulas, so the remaining stock is only sufficient for a handful of trial experiments. It’s definitely not enough to sustain mass manufacturing.”
Kei stared downward at the digits glowing across the screen.
Ten stalks of Light Anise were pathetically sparse.
A raw ingredient capable of serving as the master key to revolutionize the formula, yet that meager stock fell woefully short of resolving the Guild’s overarching Potion deficit. He had to execute his trials with extreme caution, unwilling to waste even a single sprig.
“Then I’ll start with a micro-batch,” Kei stated. “Just long enough to verify whether Light Anise operates the way I theorize.”
He pivoted back toward the alchemy lab, calculations regarding optimal material dosing already spinning rapidly inside his head. They possessed a mere three-day buffer of reserves, whereas the Dungeon Break threatened to drag on for at least an entire week.
Ten stalks of Light Anise weren’t much.
Yet if the experiment succeeded, they could pave the way for Kei to figure out how to multiply a single vial of Healing Potion into manifold doses, without forcing the hunters to pay the price in compromised therapeutic efficacy.
Furthermore, Kei still possessed another secret weapon up his sleeve!
