Chapter 40: Struggle for Dong-San City

Kei didn’t understand why the man named Kang Ian had simply led Moon So Yeon away. He only knew that he had just narrowly avoided getting tangled up in another trouble with these overly powerful hunters.

Kei quietly let out a sigh of relief, then looked at Kai, who was still standing beside him. The black scales on his neck had gradually disappeared, but those vertical yellow eyes were still fixed intently on Kei, with no intention of saying another word or doing anything strange.

"Thank goodness..."

Kei muttered in a low voice.

If Kang Ian had continued to make a move, perhaps the entire street would have been destroyed. Kei had lost the combat abilities of a mage, but he could still tell that both Kang Ian and Kai were beings at the pinnacle of power in this world.

"Kei!"

A panicked voice rang out from the direction of Kei’s shop.

Kim Sora ran over quickly, her face pale. She looked Kei up and down, then glanced at Kai, and then at the traces left behind from the battle.

"Are you hurt anywhere? Why did you suddenly get involved in a fight between hunters?"

"I’m fine, I’m not hurt."

Kei gave a helpless bitter smile and shook his head.

"It was just a misunderstanding."

"A misunderstanding that turned into this? These hunters are really something!"

Kim Sora looked at the torn-up road surface, then at the scattered debris around, her expression growing even more worried.

Kei didn’t know how to explain. He could only turn his head to look at Kai.

The man over two meters tall was standing timidly behind him, completely different from the fierce demeanor he had when strangling Moon So Yeon. He said nothing, nor did he look at anyone else. From start to finish, those yellow eyes only followed Kei.

Kei had always known that Kai wasn’t very smart.

But after witnessing everything that just happened firsthand, he began to feel that this man was truly dim-witted.

"How am I supposed to deal with him... I don’t even know who he is or where he came from..."

Kei raised a hand to rub his forehead wearily.

Right at that moment, hurried footsteps came from the end of the road.

"Guild Master!"

Do Ae Young led a group of hunters from the Black Dragon Guild as they quickly ran over. The moment she saw Kai still standing there intact, with no one beaten half to death around him, she immediately let out a sigh of relief.

Her eyes were even slightly reddened after the grueling search.

"Thank goodness... You’re alright."

Do Ae Young murmured, as if she had just escaped a terrible disaster. A stray black dragon was naturally terrifying!

"We searched everywhere for you. You suddenly left everything behind and ran off alone, we thought you might have caused something even more serious."

Kai tilted his head, still not answering.

Do Ae Young was already used to that. She immediately turned to Kei and bowed deeply.

"I’m sorry. Did our guild master do anything to frighten you?"

"No, not at all."

Kei quickly waved his hand.

"It was just a misunderstanding."

Kim Sora also quickly stepped forward to chat with the hunters of the Black Dragon Guild. Perhaps because everyone had come to know each other through this incident, the tense atmosphere quickly eased.

"Are you Kim Sora? What a lovely girl. What a shame you couldn’t awaken, I’d love to have a cute girl like you on the team!"

"That’s right. If I became a hunter, that would be wonderful!"

Kim Sora laughed heartily.

"Everyone, please come shop at our item store, there will be discounts, since you all helped Kei."

"We’ll definitely come. But it seems your store ran into quite a bit of trouble today, didn’t it?"

"Don’t even mention it, I nearly fainted from fear."

A group of people chattered away cheerfully with each other, looking no different from old acquaintances reuniting after a long time.

Kei stood to the side, quietly watching them. He didn’t understand how people could become so close so quickly, but at least this saved him from having to handle Kai’s problem alone.

Kai still stood close behind Kei.So close that Kei only needed to take a step back to bump into him.

"Can you stand a little farther away from me?"

Kei tried asking.

Kai blinked.

"No."

"..."

Kei decided not to ask anymore.

In the distance, Moon So Yeon had been led by Kang Ian to another stretch of road. She was rubbing her neck as she watched Kang Ian standing still, his gaze fixed toward the group of people from Guild Black Dragon in the distance.

Moon So Yeon asked curiously:

"Guild Master, what’s wrong?"

Kang Ian yawned, looking bored as if nothing just happened was worth worrying about.

"Nothing."

He clicked his tongue, then said:

"Just want to go back and sleep."

Right beside the two of them, space suddenly rippled. A spatial door slowly opened, revealing a faint light leading back to the place of Guild Crying Ghost.

Moon So Yeon let out a small "oh" and was about to step inside when she heard Kang Ian’s voice from behind.

"This city is pretty nice, and the people are adorable too."

Moon So Yeon paused.

Kang Ian was still looking toward Kei’s store, where Kei was standing among the hunters of Guild Black Dragon, smiling awkwardly.

"Moon So Yeon."

"Yes?"

"Make this place mine."

Moon So Yeon’s lips trembled.

She looked at the spatial door before her, then at the peacefully quiet Dong-San city, as if it had no idea what was about to happen.

After the collapse of Guild Black Rose, this city would surely become a bloody battlefield for the major Guilds to fight over.

And now, Guild Crying Ghost was the first Guild to claim it.

Moon So Yeon silently stepped into the spatial door. Just by counting, she could already figure that at least 2 other major Guilds were already present in Dong-San city.

The competition ahead would be fierce.
