Chapter 59: Battle with the Black Wolf Boss

Black Rose was already a powerful B-rank Guild, but before the successive appearances of those high-level monsters, they were no different from being left behind. If they continued to wait, other powerful Guilds would find a way to take over the city, and Black Rose could lose their only chance to gain control of their city, Dong-San.

"Time truly is not on our side." Ular muttered.

Yudian did not reply.

Ahead in the deep darkness, a gigantic roar suddenly rang out.

The ground beneath everyone’s feet shook. The black stones in Yudian’s spatial ring simultaneously emitted a faint red-purple light.

This time, Ular saw it.

He turned his head to look at Yudian, his face gradually turning pale.

"Hyung..."

Yudian placed his hand on his weapon.

"Prepare for battle."

In the darkness ahead, two red points of light slowly opened.

From the deepest part of the cave, heavy footsteps echoed one by one.

Just from the sound alone, it was enough to understand that the thing approaching was a giant Boss.

"We were supposed to get past several more monster packs before reaching the Boss room." Yudian looked over at Miya. "Why is it appearing this early?"

Miya was the vice guild master, and also the person who knew best all the activities of the Dungeons managed by the Black Rose Guild. She shook her head, her expression heavy.

"Yesterday, the scouting team still reported everything was completely normal. The path, the monsters, even the Dungeon structure, there was nothing unusual."

She looked towards the trembling darkness.

"This is a case of monster mutation."

Yudian closed his eyes for half a second.

Then he immediately opened them, his voice ringing out decisively:

"Defensive formation, move forward! The front line splits into two wings, don’t let it charge straight into the center. Mages prepare continuous attacks, archers aim for the eyes and leg joints. Hanna, prioritize healing the front line, don’t waste energy on minor wounds!"

"Understood!"

The Black Rose members immediately moved.

The shield bearers stood in a row, weapons held horizontally across their chests. The mages retreated to the back, beginning to chant spells. Ular and the other melee hunters spread out to the two sides, preparing to draw the Boss’s attention.

The footsteps grew closer and closer.

Thud!

A giant claw slammed onto the ground. The entire cave shook violently, dust and rocks surging up and obscuring vision.

A dark silhouette over ten meters tall slowly stepped out of the dust screen.

It was a wolf.

But apart from its species, there was no longer any point resembling those Thunder Wolves from before.

Its body was as massive as a small mountain, its black fur standing on end, beneath which were red-purple streaks flowing like blood. Two curved horns protruded from its skull, and its yellow-red eyes looked down at the entire Guild as if observing a swarm of insects.

Its jaws opened.

A stream of black lightning immediately exploded in the air.

"Hold your positions!" Yudian shouted.

The Boss lunged forward.

So fast that the ground behind it burst apart.

"Raise shields!"

Thud!

The defensive line was sent flying like puppets. Three hunters slammed hard into the rock wall, blood spilling from the corners of their mouths.

"Shoot!"

Arrows and magic simultaneously tore through the darkness. Fireballs, ice blades, and a barrage of arrows covered the body of the giant wolf.

Yet its black fur merely rippled. The lightning surrounding its body swallowed up most of the attacks.

"No effect?" An archer cried out in panic.

"Don’t stop!" Miya yelled. "Attack the leg joints!"

Ular had already charged in from the right. He dodged a swipe that crushed the ground, rolled once, and drove his dagger into the tendon behind the Boss’s leg.

The blade penetrated a few centimeters through the thick hide before being knocked away by the black current.

Ular gritted his teeth.

"Too tough!"

The wolf turned its head, its giant tail sweeping across."Ular!"

Yudian lunged forward with his sword, blocking the swing meant for his younger brother. His whole body skidded across the ground, his feet carving two deep trenches.

"Hyung!"

"Don’t look at me! Follow the plan!"

Yudian spun his sword and slashed straight at the Boss’s eye. The blade struck a layer of black electricity, sending out dazzling sparks. The wolf roared and retreated half a step.

"Now!" Yudian shouted.

The mages cast their magic in unison.

Ice spread from the ground, locking the Boss’s front legs in place. Chains of light wrapped around its neck, while the archers aimed precisely at the eye Yudian had just wounded.

Thunk! Thunk! Thunk!

Three arrows sank deep.

The Boss let out a thunderous roar that echoed throughout the cave. Black electricity erupted from its body into a ring of shockwaves.

The defensive line was blown back once again.

Hanna immediately raised her hand.

"Healing shield!"

A pale blue barrier enveloped the hunters in front. The electric wave slammed into the shield, causing blood to trickle from Hanna’s lips, but she gritted her teeth and held on.

"Don’t let it break the formation!" she said with a trembling voice.

Miya pulled an injured hunter back, then pointed at the Boss’s left leg.

"Ular! The Boss’s left leg joint is weak! Yudian, force it to turn right!"

"Got it!"

Ular charged forward.

Yudian advanced at the same time, continuously striking the head to disorient the giant wolf. Each slash wasn’t enough to pierce its hide, but it was enough to enrage it and make it turn in the direction Yudian wanted.

Ular circled around to the back, gathered all his strength into his legs, and leaped up.

"Take this!"

He drove his knife straight into the joint frozen by the ice.

Crack!

The electric armor shattered. The blade sank deep into the tendon.

The Boss collapsed onto one leg.

"Now, all firepower!" Yudian roared.
