Chapter 107: The Love She Threw Away
Chapter 107: Chapter 107: The Love She Threw Away
~Third- POV~
"Write that Frederick Corvin is an irresponsible, heartless monster," Eva commanded, her voice rising with every word. "Tell the public that he abandoned his wife and daughter to run around with a teenage boy! Paint him as a reckless billionaire abusing his power, and make that boy look like a calculating manipulator who broke up a family!"
"Eva..." The blogger hesitated. "If Frederick finds out I published this, he could sue my agency into the ground. And what about your reputation? This could permanently ruin your career if it backfires."
"I DON’T CARE!" Eva screamed into the phone, tears of rage spilling down her cheeks. "My career is already in pieces! I am not going to sit back and let that boy win! I am not letting him take my place, my wealth, and my husband! Put it out NOW!"
She ended the call and threw her phone onto the sofa, breathing heavily as she stared into the dark room.
She was ready to drag everyone into the mud, even if it meant destroying herself in the process.
Eva stumbled toward her home bar, her trembling hands reaching for a bottle of expensive liquor. She poured herself a generous glass, her chest heaving as tears of rage and helplessness blurred her vision.
She staggered toward the leather armchair in the corner of the dimly lit room and sank into it. Taking a long, burning sip, she swallowed the liquor before slamming the crystal glass onto the table beside her.
Silence settled over the mansion, heavy and suffocating. As the alcohol burned down her throat, the initial rush of anger began to fade, leaving behind a cold, aching emptiness.
Eva stared into the darkness, and for the first time in years, the full weight of reality finally broke through her defenses.
Regret—sharp, bitter, and suffocating—began to claw at her chest.
She remembered how Frederick used to be. Years ago, he had been the one chasing after her, patient and devoted, willing to move mountains just to keep their family together. He had swallowed his pride time and time again, returning to her even after she pushed him away. He had offered her a life filled with security, warmth, and a love she had never truly appreciated.
For years, he had kept the door open, trying everything in his power to save their marriage and preserve their family for the sake of their daughter.
And for years, she had pushed him away.
Eva closed her eyes as fresh tears spilled down her cheeks. She had been so consumed by her ego, vanity, and relentless ambition that she had taken Frederick for granted. She had convinced herself that he would always be there—a steady, loyal presence waiting in the background whenever she grew tired of chasing her own desires.
She had believed she could return to him whenever she pleased, no matter how badly she treated him.
She had never imagined that Frederick could truly move on.
And now, watching him shower another person with the affection she had once taken for granted, Eva was finally beginning to understand what she had lost.
Seeing that photo on his official Instagram Story and the way he publicly showed off Reynold, calling him his "cute little angel" in front of millions, proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that Frederick wasn’t joking. He wasn’t just entertaining a temporary fling. He had genuinely fallen in love. He was giving Reynold the soft, protective, unwavering devotion that she had thrown away.
The irony was a bitter pill to swallow. Frederick had once been the one chasing her. Now, here she was, reduced to a desperate, frantic version of herself, resorting to cheap schemes and digging up dirt just to get a single shred of his attention back.
Worse still, Frederick was no longer shielding her. He was ready to protect Reynold with every ounce of his power and wealth, even if it meant crushing her career into dust.
A choked sob escaped Eva’s lips. Her shoulders shook violently as she buried her face in her hands.
It wasn’t just Frederick she had lost. The reality of what she had sacrificed for her selfish ambitions hit her like a physical blow. She didn’t even know what her own daughter looked like. She had walked away from her own child to pursue red carpets, high society, and the glamour of the spotlight. Now, the spotlight was fading, her career was crumbling, and she was left sitting all alone in her luxurious mansion with nothing to show for it.
She had lost a good man. A man who would have given her the world.
"I gave up everything..." Eva wept softly, her voice cracking in the quiet room. "I threw it all away..."
For several long minutes, she wept openly, grieving the life, the love, and the family she had recklessly discarded.
But as her sobs slowly subsided, the hollow grief inside her began to twist into something darker. The thought of Reynold living the life she had once taken for granted, enjoying Frederick’s wealth, protection, and unconditional love, ignited a dangerous spark in her tear-stained eyes.
Eva wiped her wet face with the back of her hand, her jaw tightening as her sadness morphed into fury.
"No..." she snarled, her hands clenching into tight fists until her nails dug into her palms. "No... I won’t accept this!"
She stood abruptly, her gaze sweeping across the luxurious room, her voice rising with desperate, unyielding rage.
"I am not going to sit here and let him win! I will NOT let that nobody walk away with my life, my husband, and my wealth!"
Her gaze shifted to the sofa where her phone lay. By the following morning, the smear campaign she had requested would begin making headlines.
Meanwhile, back at Frederick’s estate, Frederick and Reynold remained unaware of what Eva had planned. The atmosphere inside the grand dining room was warm, quiet, and peaceful.
Frederick reached across the dark, polished mahogany table and took Reynold’s left hand in his broad palm. He brought Reynold’s fingers to his lips, brushing a gentle kiss against his knuckles before resting their joined hands on the linen tablecloth.
"How does the food taste, sweetheart?" Frederick asked softly, his gaze fixed on Reynold with quiet devotion.
Reynold swallowed a tender bite of roasted salmon, his eyes crinkling at the corners as a soft smile spread across his face.
"It’s incredible, Daddy. Everything here always tastes so good."
"Eat as much as you like," Frederick replied, warmth filling his voice. "You need to regain your strength."
Reynold’s cheeks flushed at the subtle reminder of their morning intimacy, but he didn’t look away. Instead, he squeezed Frederick’s hand, finding comfort in his steady touch.
"I feel like I’m dreaming," Reynold confessed softly, tilting his head slightly. "Just sitting here with you... knowing how much you love me and how much I love you. I don’t think I’ve ever felt this happy or this safe in my life."
Frederick’s eyes softened. He tightened his hold on Reynold’s hand, his expression filled with a deep promise.
"It isn’t a dream, Reynold. This is your reality now. As long as I’m breathing, you’ll never have to feel unsafe or unwanted ever again."
A comfortable silence settled between them, broken only by the soft clinking of silver cutlery. They ate slowly, exchanging quiet laughter and fond glances as they enjoyed each other’s company.
For the first time in a very long time, Frederick felt entirely at ease, his mind far removed from corporate boardrooms, past grievances, and the mindless chatter of the outside world. All that mattered was Reynold, sitting across from him, flushed, happy, and thoroughly loved.
When they finished, Frederick stood and walked around the table, extending his hand to Reynold. Reynold took it without hesitation, and together they made their way upstairs to their bedroom.
Once they reached their bedroom, they headed straight into the walk-in closet to change into their pajamas. Reynold picked out a pair of soft silk pajamas, while Frederick changed into comfortable lounge pants. They moved around each other with easy familiarity.
As soon as they finished changing, they stepped back into the bedroom, and Reynold’s youthful energy returned. He hurried toward the bed, a soft giggle escaping his lips as he kicked off his slippers beside the rug. He climbed onto the mattress, slipped beneath the duvet, and pulled it up to his chest.
He looked up at Frederick with sparkling eyes as he approached at a relaxed pace.
Frederick stopped beside the bed, smiling at Reynold curled up in the middle of the mattress. He switched off the overhead lights, leaving only the soft glow of the bedside lamp.
"You’re in a hurry," Frederick teased.
"I just wanted to get warm," Reynold murmured playfully, lifting the edge of the duvet to invite him in. "And I was waiting for you."
Frederick climbed into bed beside him. Reynold immediately moved closer, resting his head against Frederick’s chest and draping an arm over him.
Frederick rubbed soothing circles over Reynold’s back, a playful glint in his dark eyes as he looked down at him.
"Are you sure you only wanted to get warm, sweetheart, or do you need some banana before you go to sleep?" he teased softly.
Reynold blinked up at him, his expression completely innocent and utterly confused. "I don’t like bananas," he said plainly, wrinkling his nose. "I seriously don’t like the taste."
Frederick let out a quiet, amused chuckle. "Are you sure about that?"
Reynold nodded firmly, his eyes wide and serious. "Yes. Don’t ever give me bananas. I really don’t like them."
"Are you sure, sweetheart?" Frederick pressed, his lips twitching with a suppressed smirk.
Reynold huffed lightly, tilting his head. "Yes! Why do you keep asking me?"
