Chapter 208: 208: I’LL PROVE IT.

"No. You’re getting it all wrong. That’s not what I meant at all... Don’t misunderstand..." June tried to explain.

But Nyx shook his head. "I understand that it’s easy to believe I’d do it. After all, I’m a..." He hesitated, staring up at June. "I know it’s hard to trust me right now because of what I did, but... trust me, I didn’t..."

"I believe you," June assured him. "Don’t worry, I really trust you." He paused before adding, "I just wanted to protect you more, so I was trying to see if I could trace something. That’s all... So don’t misunderstand, okay?"

Nyx said nothing. He simply stood there, staring at June without a word, and June began to grow worried.

He could read the expression on Nyx’s face. He could tell that Nyx didn’t fully believe him.

Ever since Nyx discovered what he had done and what he could potentially do beyond his own control, he had grown increasingly scared and insecure.

He was afraid of ruining whatever he had with June because of his nature. He feared that June would eventually grow to resent him, suspect him, and see him as someone he couldn’t trust.

Moments like this only triggered those feelings, feelings that had always bothered him even when he tried to pretend otherwise.

And at that moment, June could see through his eyes just how deeply the situation affected him.

June slowly approached him, raising a hand to cup his cheek. "Are you okay...?" He had come to realize that the situation bothered Nyx far more than he let on.

But Nyx stepped back from his touch, lowering his gaze as he spoke. "I’ll prove it to you..."

June stared at him, growing both scared and confused. "Prove what to me...? What do you mean?"

Nyx looked at him. "I know... It’s hard to trust me after discovering that. Even though you don’t show it, I know you’re scared of me. I know you’re skeptical about me. I know you believe I can’t control myself..."

He paused before continuing, his expression growing more determined.

"I’ll prove to you that I can control myself. Then you’ll really believe me... right?"

June felt his heart break at the sight of Nyx desperately trying to prove himself because of his insecurities.

"No... That’s not it. You don’t have to do that at all. I already believe you. I know you didn’t do it, so... don’t..."

But Nyx shook his head, staggering backward. "No, let me do it. Let me prove myself... That’s the only way you’ll believe me, so let me do it..." he insisted as he turned to leave.

"Nyx..." June called after him. "It’s okay..."

But Nyx wasn’t going to listen.

"Don’t follow me... please..." he said before walking away, disappearing from sight.

June stood there, watching him leave with a worried expression. He ran a hand through his hair, inhaling deeply before letting out a frustrated breath.

"What the fuck do I do...?" he muttered, glancing around anxiously.

He had a pretty good idea of what Nyx intended to do and wanted to go after him, but Nyx had specifically asked him not to. He didn’t know whether following him would make things worse.

June stood there for a while, lost in thought. He was beginning to realize that Nyx’s insecurities ran far deeper than he had imagined, and he could feel his own anxiety growing with every passing moment.

Nyx certainly wasn’t in the right emotional state at the moment, and June feared what he might do.

"I have to look for him..." he told himself before rushing off.

June ran down the stairs and began searching for Nyx around the academy. But even after running around the school for more than an hour, he still couldn’t find a single trace of him.

---

The Elite Five were gathered in their private lounge at the academy, enjoying a leisurely evening together.

The lights illuminated the room as they sat around, each occupied with their own activities. Karen was reading a book while Jason and Luther played video games. Evelyn, meanwhile, sat casually scrolling through her phone.

"I wonder what Rayder is up to now?" Evelyn asked, looking up at the others. "Do you think he’s given up and accepted his fate, or is he planning something?"

Karen scoffed. "Him? Accept his fate? He’s not the type to do that so easily. I’m sure he’s up to something."

Evelyn stared at him thoughtfully. "If that’s the case, shouldn’t we do something? What if he acts before us and ruins our plans?"

Jason smiled. "You don’t have to worry about that at all. No matter what he does, it’s definitely not going to be as impactful as what we’ll do."

He leaned back comfortably before adding, "He can try all he wants, but he’ll never outsmart us."

Karen smiled in agreement. "He definitely isn’t as smart as he thinks he is. His downfall was bound to happen eventually."

Evelyn nodded. "As long as we don’t go down with him, I’m fine with anything. What a hassle..." She shook her head in annoyance. "Because of him, everyone’s gossiping about me. So annoying."

While they sat there leisurely, a loud knock suddenly came from the entrance.

They paused and looked up.

"Who’s that? Did anyone order pizza or something?" Evelyn asked.

"This late? I doubt it," Karen replied, getting to his feet. "I’ll go and check on our night visitor. Maybe it’s Rayder or something." He scoffed as he made his way to the entrance.

When he arrived, he pulled the door open, only for Nyx to step straight into the room.

Karen was taken aback, but before he could stop him, Nyx pushed past him and barged inside, coming to a halt in the middle of the room.

He looked exhausted and disheveled, like someone who had been wandering around the academy for ages.

"Well, look who we have here." Karen folded his arms as he approached him.

Everyone had stopped what they were doing at the sight of Nyx. Jason and Luther rose to their feet, staring at the unexpected visitor.

"What are you doing here? I don’t remember you having any business with us," Jason said coldly.

Nyx said nothing. He simply stood there, staring at Jason with a cold expression, his fists clenched as though he were ready to attack at any moment.

Luther scoffed as he glanced down at Nyx’s clenched fists. "Interesting. And what’s with those fists? Do you plan on killing us all or something?" he teased.

But Nyx remained silent. He looked at them one by one, his expression unchanging, while Jason folded his arms.

"I don’t like seeing your face at all. So if you want to live, get out of my sight. I don’t have the energy to deal with any more headaches right now," Jason insisted.

But at that moment, Nyx finally spoke.

"Fight me."

His words were so straightforward that the four of them stared at him in confusion before exchanging glances with one another.

"What rubbish are you spouting now? What are you even talking about?" Karen demanded. "Are you high on something or what?"

"Do it," Nyx said, staring firmly at Jason. "Isn’t that what you’ve always wanted? You’ve always hated me, especially after I kicked your ass back at the competition..."

Nyx looked at their faces as he continued, deliberately provoking them.

"We showed you how useless you and your little team were. You couldn’t even handle an attack from some F-rank juniors. That should be embarrassing enough, shouldn’t it?"

The moment he finished speaking, Jason threw a punch straight at his face.

The force of the blow sent Nyx staggering backward, and he struggled to regain his balance.

Yet, Nyx smiled as he brushed a hand across his lips, wiping away the blood before looking up at Jason.

"Perfect. Perfect aim... Now, continue. Beat me up. Go on..." His smile widened as he spread his arms slightly. "You hate me. You want to get back at me, so pour all your frustration out on me."

Jason scoffed, staring at Nyx in disbelief. "You’re one crazy bastard..." he muttered before turning away to massage his fist.

"Continue!" Nyx snapped at them. "Aren’t you embarrassed enough that some F-rankers made you lose your dignity? You should be furious! This is your opportunity to act, so take it, you losers!"

Jason smiled, his back still turned toward Nyx. "Of course it’s annoying. And since you’ve already stepped into my den..." He slowly turned around, his smile growing colder. "I guess I should give you exactly what you want."

He glanced at Luther, who was already struggling to contain the fury building inside him.

Nyx’s words were getting under Luther’s skin, pushing him closer to the edge as he fought the urge to attack.

Jason noticed his growing anger and gave him a knowing smile.

"You do it. Take this opportunity and make this bastard pay for what he deserves," he ordered before turning back to Nyx. "Give him what he wants so badly."

Luther smiled at the permission. He brought his fists together, cracking his knuckles as he stepped forward.

"With great pleasure," he said, his smile widening as he fixed his attention on Nyx, ready to tear him apart.
