Black Phoenix Heir
Chapter 150 — The Chosen One
Space twisted around them.
For a brief moment, Victor couldn't tell which way was up.
Then everything snapped back into place.
Victor, Lyra, and Gregol appeared several miles away from the Shadow Fox settlement, surrounded by the familiar darkness of the forest.
Gregol calmly released them.
Victor's feet touched the ground.
Lyra landed beside him.
For several seconds, nobody said anything.
The forest was quiet.
Only the faint rustling of leaves and the distant sounds of insects filled the silence.
Victor simply stood there.
His mind was still trying to process everything that had happened.
There were far too many questions running through his head.
But one thing was obvious.
Victor looked toward Lyra.
She had nowhere to go.
The Shadow Fox Clan had sentenced her to death.
She couldn't return there.
And Victor wasn't about to leave her alone in the forest.
1
Victor then looked toward Gregol.
The powerful cultivator stood quietly several feet away.
He looked completely calm, as though appearing at the perfect moment to save Victor from an ancient Shadow Fox was the most ordinary thing in the world.
Victor stared at him for a moment.
He finally spoke.
"I'm not really sure how you appeared out of nowhere at the perfect time…"
Victor paused.
"But it saved my life."
He gave Gregol a sincere look.
"So thank you, Gregol."
Gregol immediately bowed.
"No, chosen one. You don't need to thank me."
His voice was completely serious.
"It was my duty to protect you and make sure you're safe."
Victor stared at him.
Then he sighed.
"Oh no."
He shook his head.
"I thought I was over this bowing business once I left the tribe."
Lyra looked toward Victor.
Then toward Gregol.
Her expression was filled with confusion.
This was the same man who had just overwhelmed an ancient Shadow Fox simply by standing in front of Victor.
And now he was bowing to Victor.
Victor caught Lyra's gaze.
He shook his head slightly.
He looked back at Gregol.
"I understand."
He sighed.
Then Victor's expression became curious.
"So why were you following me?"
Gregol smiled.
"Oheem asked me to follow you in secret."
Victor's eyebrows rose.
"To make sure you could be protected in case something happened."
Victor nodded slowly.
Gregol remained silent for a moment.
Then Gregol looked directly at him.
"We believe Samal has chosen you to lead our people."
Victor's eyes widened slightly.
"To lead your people?"
"Yes."
Victor stared at him.
He didn't understand.
Not even remotely.
Why would Samal choose him?
He barely knew anything about the ancient man.
Victor shook his head.
"Okay…"
He paused.
"I get it."
Then he looked directly at Gregol.
"But I'm not your chosen one."
Gregol's smile didn't change.
"But you are."
Victor frowned.
Gregol continued.
"Oheema has already spoken."
He looked toward Victor with absolute certainty.
"The Guardian Spirit chose you."
Victor remained silent.
"Samal chose you through the vision."
Gregol's gaze lowered briefly toward Victor's hands.
"And you possess the flame."
Victor's expression became complicated.
He didn't have a good answer for that.
The Black Flame.
The Guardian Spirit.
The vision.
He eventually sighed.
There was clearly no getting out of this.
He looked back at Gregol.
"So what's your plan now?"
Gregol tilted his head slightly.
Victor continued.
"Are you just going to follow me around?"
"Yes, chosen one."
1
Gregol bowed again.
Victor immediately raised both hands.
"Please."
He sighed.
"Please stop bowing, Gregol."
Gregol looked genuinely confused.
"I can't do that, chosen one."
"Why not?"
"If I don't show you proper respect, what will Samal think of me?"
Gregol paused.
"When I meet him in the afterlife, I cannot have him thinking I failed to respect his chosen one."
Victor stared at him.
For several seconds, he said nothing.
Then he slowly shook his head.
"Fine do what you want."
Gregol smiled.
Victor looked toward Lyra.
"Lyra…"
She looked at him.
"It looks like we need to head back to the Lava Rock Monkey clan."
Lyra immediately frowned.
"We can't."
Victor smiled.
"I'm technically the new leader of the clan."
Lyra stared at him waiting for him to explain.
Victor laughed.
"It's a long story."
He shrugged.
Lyra thought about it for a moment.
"Okay."
She nodded.
He turned toward the direction of the Lava Rock Monkey territory.
"Let's head back."
The journey was relatively quiet.
After roughly fifteen or twenty minutes, the familiar sound of rushing water reached Victor's ears.
The massive bridge leading into the Lava Rock Monkey territory appeared through the trees.
The moment they crossed into the territory, several Lava Rock Monkeys noticed them.
At first, their eyes went toward Victor.
Then they noticed Lyra.
A Shadow Fox.
Their expressions immediately became confused.
Some stopped fighting.
Others turned their heads.
A few whispered among themselves.
But then they recognized Victor.
The new Prime Ape.
Then Lava Rock Monkey's immediately started to bow.
"Welcome back, Primate."
One of them said.
Victor slowed down.
He looked around.
Everywhere he looked, members of the Lava Rock Monkey clan were showing him respect.
Victor's expression slowly became more complicated.
He had already dealt with the tribe treating him like some kind of chosen figure.
Now the Lava Rock Monkeys were bowing to him too.
He shook his head.
What is happening with my life?
1
Why is everyone bowing to me now?
Victor decided it was better not to think about it.
He simply nodded whenever someone greeted him and continued walking.
The familiar village surrounded him.
Wooden treehouses stretched between enormous branches.
Bridges crossed through the air.
Eventually, Victor reached the path leading toward the cultivation chamber.
The further they descended, the quieter the village became.
Then Victor reached the chamber.
He stepped inside.
And stopped.
His eyes widened slightly.
Monklalusa was sitting cross-legged near the lava pool.
A large container of banana wine sat beside him.
Monkaster and Monkasa were there.
The three of them were drinking together.
Victor stared at the scene.
He couldn't help but laugh quietly.
Looks like the ancient monkey decided to find new drinking partners after I left.
Monkalusa suddenly looked up.
His eyes landed on Victor.
His face immediately brightened.
"Victor."
He raised his cup.
"You're back."
He laughed.
"Come, come. Sit down and drink a glass with us."
Then his eyes shifted.
He noticed Lyra.
His eyebrows rose.
"You brought more people?"
Monkalusa looked at Lyra for a moment.
Then a knowing smile appeared.
"I'm guessing that's the reason you left in such a hurry."
Victor smiled awkwardly.
1
"Yeah…"
Monkalusa then looked toward Gregol.
The ancient monkey studied him for a moment.
Gregol simply nodded respectfully.
Monkalusa returned the gesture.
Gregol then resumed his position behind Victor, standing quietly and watching the surroundings.
Victor looked back toward Monkalusa.
Despite everything that had happened, the sight of the familiar group sitting around the lava pool brought a strange sense of calm.
Victor smiled.
"Honestly…"
He looked at the banana wine.
"I'd love a drink."
He turned toward Monkaster.
"Teacher, could you pour us three glasses?"
Monkaster smiled.
"Of course, Victor."
Victor walked over.
He slowly lowered himself onto the ground beside the others.
Victor finally allowed himself to relax.
Whatever came next…
They would figure it out together.
