Black Phoenix Heir
Chapter 154 — The Spirit Accumulation Pill
Victor, Lyra, and Jack could all be seen inside the Alchemy Room.
Victor stood before the alchemy cauldron, with the ingredients for the Spirit Accumulation Pill arranged in front of him.
1
He placed his hands over them.
The moment he began the refinement process, his Black Phoenix Flame responded.
The ingredients immediately began burning.
Victor's eyes narrowed slightly.
It had been several months since he had last attempted this pill, but the countless attempts he had made before hadn't disappeared from his memory.
It was almost like riding a bike.
His increased Soul Power made the difference even more obvious.
The ingredients burned beneath his control with incredible smoothness.
It was almost as though he were cutting through softened butter with a knife.
Victor could barely believe how easy it felt.
My Soul Power really has improved this much?
The process itself was still tedious.
Even with his improved control, refining every ingredient properly required patience.
Nearly an hour passed before Victor finally completed the refinement stage.
He didn't celebrate.
He simply moved on.
The next step was essence separation.
This had always been one of the more difficult stages for him.
If the ingredients weren't refined properly, separating their essence became exponentially harder.
Victor focused.
His Black Phoenix Flame wrapped around the refined ingredients.
Then he willed the essence out.
It separated almost seamlessly.
Victor's eyes narrowed.
There was almost no resistance.
This is ridiculous.
He had struggled with this stage countless times before.
Now it felt as though the ingredients themselves were cooperating with him.
But Victor didn't allow himself to become distracted.
There was still one of the most difficult stages remaining.
Fusion.
By now, several hours had passed inside the Alchemy Room.
Victor remained completely focused.
Lyra sat nearby, quietly watching.
She had never seen anything like this.
She didn't understand the process yet.
She didn't understand what Victor was doing or how the strange flames manipulated the materials.
But she found herself fascinated.
Alchemy looked almost magical.
Victor's expression was completely serious as he worked.
Every movement was precise.
Every adjustment was deliberate.
If Lyra didn't know any better, she would have thought Victor had been doing this for hundreds of years.
She remained silent.
She didn't want to disturb him.
Victor began the fusion process.
This was where he had failed most of the time.
He had only successfully completed the fusion stage once before.
But this time…
He felt different.
Victor slowly guided the essences together.
One by one, they began merging.
The different colors swirled together, twisting around one another in a beautiful, chaotic pattern.
The mixture gradually formed a massive circular shape.
It almost resembled an enormous abstract painting.
Colors and essences blended together, constantly changing as Victor manipulated them.
Lyra's eyes widened.
She couldn't look away.
The strange mixture floating above the cauldron was beautiful.
It was almost majestic.
So this is alchemy…
For the first time, Lyra understood why Victor had become so interested in it.
There was something strangely satisfying about watching raw materials transform into something completely different.
Victor continued working.
Another hour passed.
The chaotic mixture slowly stabilized.
The swirling mass finally formed a perfect circular shape.
Victor stared at it.
The finished fusion looked almost like a miniature planet floating in space.
Victor smiled.
He lifted one hand and pushed his hair back.
Then his expression became serious again.
The fusion was complete.
Now came the part he had never managed to get very far through.
Pill condensation.
The Earth-like sphere remained suspended above the cauldron.
Victor needed to compress it.
Each compression would force the essence closer together until it finally became a pill.
Victor didn't know exactly how many compressions would be required.
But if there was ever a time he believed he could succeed…
It was now.
He focused every bit of his attention.
His Black Phoenix Flame wrapped around the sphere with surgical precision.
Then—
Compression.
The entire sphere shrank slightly.
Victor's eyes brightened.
It worked.
The first compression had barely required any effort.
The sphere had responded almost immediately, condensing beneath the pressure of his flame.
Victor didn't waste any time.
He began the second compression.
This time, the resistance was noticeable.
The sphere trembled as the condensed essence pushed back against his control.
Victor narrowed his eyes.
He poured more Soul Power into the flame.
The pressure increased.
Slowly, the sphere began to shrink again.
His hair lifted slightly as the Spiritual Energy around him intensified.
The sphere compressed until it was roughly the size of an apple.
Victor released a small breath.
The first had been easy.
The second had already required considerably more effort.
And there were still more to come.
Victor began the third compression.
The moment his Black Phoenix Flame tightened around the sphere, the resistance exploded.
The condensed essence violently pushed back against his control.
Victor's expression changed.
His Spiritual Energy surged as he fought to keep the sphere stable.
It's resisting me.
He gritted his teeth.
His Black Phoenix Flame burned brighter.
Slowly, painfully, the sphere began to shrink.
The pressure continued building.
The sphere finally compressed to roughly the size of a golf ball.
Victor stared at it.
His breathing had become heavier.
He could feel the difference now.
Every compression was becoming harder than the last.
And the next one…
The next one would probably be the final one.
Victor took a slow breath.
He prepared himself.
His entire consciousness narrowed until nothing else existed.
Not the room.
Not Jack.
Not Lyra.
Nothing.
Only the pill.
Lyra watched him from the side.
She had never seen Victor like this.
She had seen him angry.
She had seen him laugh.
She had seen him serious.
But this was different.
There was an absolute focus in his eyes.
A determination that seemed to consume everything else.
Lyra found herself respecting him even more.
Nearby, Jack watched silently.
For the first time, he looked genuinely excited.
Victor was finally approaching the point where he could officially become an alchemist.
Victor began the final compression.
The sphere barely moved.
His expression tightened.
The resistance was enormous.
Victor pushed harder.
Still nothing.
His Soul Power rapidly drained.
Victor was already using nearly everything he had.
Come on.
His breathing became heavier.
He increased the pressure again.
The sphere trembled.
For a moment, it looked as though the condensed essence might break apart.
Victor immediately stabilized it.
No.
He couldn't let the last compression fail now.
Not after coming this far.
Victor gritted his teeth.
"Compress!"
The sphere moved.
Barely.
But it moved.
Victor's eyes sharpened.
He pushed again.
This time, the sphere shrank slightly more.
His entire body began trembling from the effort.
The resistance was unlike anything he had experienced during the previous compressions.
It felt like he was trying to crush a mountain with his bare hands.
His Soul Power continued disappearing.
He could probably maintain this for another thirty seconds at most.
After that, he would completely run out.
Come on.
Victor pushed harder.
The sphere shrank another fraction.
His vision began to blur.
His body felt heavy.
His mind felt exhausted.
The lethargy was beginning to overwhelm him.
For a moment, he wondered whether he was actually going to fail again.
Then something inside him refused to accept that answer.
No.
His eyes opened wider.
Not today.
His expression hardened.
"This will be the day."
He poured everything he had left into the final compression.
And then—
Something changed.
A surge of energy suddenly flowed through him.
Victor's Soul Power surged.
He didn't understand where it came from.
But it was there.
Lyra suddenly felt it.
Her eyes widened.
She could feel a portion of her own Soul Energy being pulled through their connection.
It simply flowed toward Victor.
Victor's body trembled.
A roar escaped his throat.
"ARGHH!"
It sounded almost like a weightlifter forcing himself through the final seconds of an impossible lift.
Victor poured everything into the compression.
The sphere finally began to shrink.
Slowly.
Then faster.
Smaller.
Smaller.
Until finally—
It compressed down to the size of a marble.
The pressure vanished.
The newly formed pill rotated slowly above the cauldron.
Victor stared.
A blue-teal pill floated before him.
Its surface shimmered with a faint radiance, almost as though a thin layer of light covered its surface.
For several seconds, nobody spoke.
Jack's mouth was slightly open.
Lyra stared in disbelief.
Victor simply smiled.
He had done it.
He had finally succeeded.
Victor slowly reached out and lifted the pill from the cauldron.
He stared at it.
A genuine smile spread across his face.
I actually did it.
Victor looked toward Lyra.
Then suddenly—
His vision shifted.
The Library began to fade.
Victor's expression changed.
"Wait—"
He didn't even have time to finish.
His consciousness was forcibly pulled from the Library.
⸻
Victor was back inside the Lava Pool cultivation chamber.
His eyes remained closed.
His body dropped to the ground.
THUD.
Victor didn't move.
And he had already fallen unconscious.
