Blood on the Canvas, Gold on the Screen
Chapter 503: The Chrono-Sync Dilemma
Chapter 501: The Chrono-Sync Dilemma
The morning sun crested the jagged, emerald peaks of the private Pacific atoll, casting a brilliant, ambient glow across the sanitized, glass-smooth surface of the lagoon.
In the dead center of the water, the Leviathan Lotus—a sprawling, hundred-foot-wide floating platform constructed entirely from body-temperature memory-foam petals—continued its glacial, imperceptible rotation. The holographic string quartet had long since vanished, and the Vanguard mixology drones had retreated to their charging bays.
The Harem Council awoke slowly, their bodies deeply imprinted into the plush, water-resistant sea silk. They had spent an entire night floating in absolute, zero-gravity perfection. It was the most profound, uninterrupted stasis any of them had ever experienced.
Salma Hayek was the first to attempt a return to the waking world.
She let out a soft, contented groan, opening her eyes to the brilliant blue tropical sky. She rolled onto her side, intending to push herself up into a seated position to stretch her arms.
She planted her hands against the memory foam and pushed.
Nothing happened.
Salma blinked, a sudden, microscopic spike of confusion piercing her relaxed state. She tried again, engaging her triceps and abdominal core. Her body felt impossibly, terrifyingly heavy. It was as if she were trying to lift a boulder covered in wet cement.
"What... what is wrong with the gravity?" Salma gasped, her voice thick with sleep and rising panic. She managed to flop onto her back, her chest heaving. "Is the island magnetized?! I cannot lift my own torso!"
Jennifer Aniston, resting on the adjacent petal, cracked one eye open. She giggled, reaching out a hand to wave dismissively at Salma.
But as Jennifer attempted to lift her arm, it hovered a mere two inches off the mattress before violently trembling and dropping back down with a heavy thud.
Jennifer’s giggle instantly vanished. "Oh my god. I have no muscle tone. My deltoids have evaporated."
The panic quickly rippled across the Leviathan Lotus. Courteney Cox attempted to sit up, only to find her lumbar spine completely unresponsive. Shakira tried to execute a simple knee-bend and immediately suffered a mild calf cramp.
"We are paralyzed!" Courteney shrieked, her organizational neuroses violently overriding her zen. "Alex! The Jubilee of Inertia broke our skeletal systems! We are functionally jellyfish!"
In the exact geometric center of the massive, floating flower, Alex Turner lay perfectly flat on his back. He was swathed in a lightweight ivory linen shirt and loose trousers. His fathomless stare was anchored lazily to a passing seagull. He did not attempt to move.
"You are not paralyzed, Courteney," Alex murmured, his deep baritone rolling effortlessly across the calm lagoon. "You are simply experiencing the ’Chrono-Sync Dilemma.’ It is a recognized physiological consequence of achieving absolute peak leisure."
Gillian Anderson, lying flat on her back and completely unwilling to test her own muscles, let out a husky, cynical laugh. "Please explain to me how forgetting how to sit up is a peak achievement."
"For the past week," Alex lectured softly, projecting his voice without elevating his chin, "you have existed in a mathematically optimized, zero-friction environment. You have slept on temperature-regulated memory foam. You have floated in hyper-salinated, gravity-defying sensory deprivation pools. You have traversed the jungle in a funicular bed. Your muscles have completely forgotten the trauma of supporting your own body weight. You have been de-calibrated from the earth’s gravitational pull."
"We are astronauts!" Angelina Jolie gasped, her eyes wide with a mixture of sheer horror and predatory amusement. She was lying perfectly still, having realized the trap before engaging her muscles. "We have been in zero-G for so long that we can’t re-enter the atmosphere!"
"Exactly, Angie," Alex praised lazily. "Attempting to immediately stand up and walk back to the cliffside villa would be a catastrophic biological shock. It is a ’Gravitational Re-entry’ disaster. Your knees would buckle under the sudden, agonizing friction of your own mass."
Salma stared at the distant shore, which looked miles away to her de-calibrated brain. "So what are we supposed to do?! We can’t live on a floating pillow forever! I need to use the bathroom! I need to wash my hair!"
"Bathing requires standing in a shower, which is a vertical tragedy," Alex reasoned seamlessly. "However, I acknowledge the logistical necessity of returning to the mainland. We simply require a transitional phase. We must be evacuated."
"Evacuated?!" Shakira yelled, throwing her hands up—an action that visibly exhausted her. "We are Hollywood A-listers! We are not going to be medevaced off a lily pad because we forgot how to walk!"
Alex simply closed his eyes, entirely unbothered by her wounded pride. He didn’t even raise his voice. "Thorne."
From the edge of the glass causeway on the shoreline, a soft, synchronized mechanical hum engaged.
Commander Elias Thorne stood on the deck, his posture immaculate in a crisp, slate-grey tactical polo. He tapped his digital telemetry pad twice.
Gliding silently over the surface of the lagoon were eight sleek, highly modified, low-profile hover-barges. They looked exactly like military-grade medical stretchers, but instead of wheels, they utilized the same silent magnetic-repulsion drives as Snoop and Keanu’s earlier transport. The surface of each stretcher was lined with dense, temperature-regulated Loro Piana cashmere.
The hover-stretchers glided effortlessly toward the Leviathan Lotus, docking seamlessly against the edges of the individual petals.
"Mr. Turner. Council," Thorne announced through a small, localized megaphone, his voice completely deadpan. "The Vanguard Medical Evacuation Protocol is initiated. Please roll horizontally onto the designated hover-stretchers. Do not attempt to engage your lower extremities."
Monica Bellucci let out a rich, musical sigh of profound, defeated joy. "He sent flying gurneys to carry us to our bedrooms."
"It is a necessary triage, Monica," Alex murmured, executing a flawless, low-friction tactical roll from the center stamen onto his designated hover-stretcher. He didn’t lift his spine once. "Rolling utilizes momentum and gravity. It is the only acceptable method of boarding the medical transport."
The women, utterly stripped of their dignity but entirely unwilling to fight gravity, began to slowly, comically roll themselves off the Lotus and onto the plush hovering stretchers.
"This is the most humiliating moment of my life," Salma grumbled, flopping heavily onto her cashmere transport.
"Humiliation is an emotional burden, Salma," Alex dictated as his stretcher began its silent, automated glide back toward the cliffside funicular. "You are surviving a gravitational re-entry with absolute grace. Let the machines handle the burden of verticality."
As the fleet of hovering beds drifted silently across the Pacific lagoon, carrying the heavily sedated, gravitationally de-calibrated stars of Hollywood back to their sanctuary, the Titan of Leisure sank deeper into the plush cashmere. The crisis of walking had been completely neutralized. The island’s automated infrastructure was flawless, and he hadn’t burned a single calorie to survive the morning.
