Blood Queen Reborn
Chapter 250 Learning To Act
Amazonia. It was the name of the planet that the mysterious underground vampire city resided, as well as the equally mysterious vampire, Arthur. If there was a hidden off grid place to take Quinn, it would be there.
Not only that, but it hadn’t been too long since the military abandoned it. They would likely still have a portal to the place.
"I should also clarify," Logan continued, "Amazonia will be the second portal Quinn will go through. The first would be to military base 2."
Layla knew of Logan to be an incredibly smart individual, and he brought up an excellent point that all of the portals at the base would be owned by the military. What she couldn’t understand was why go to military base 2?
"Would you mind explaining your reasoning?" Layla asked.
"It’s a matter of knowing the portals," Logan explained, "There are many, many portal storage rooms here. The likes of which contain portals that won’t have the one we are looking for. However, we know military base 2 has it, and with it, less security."
Now it made sense to Layla. They had a plan now, all they had to do was figure out how to execute it.
"I’ll meet up with the others, and get into contact with them," Layla said, then added, "Privately. In my room."
Logan nodded, and she started to leave the training room.
However, on her way out, a girl with long straight blonde hair and long legs smirked to herself. She was another bow user, wielding a bow that looked quite impressive, but not as impressive as Layla’s.
Suddenly, Layla felt an invisible tug on her leg, preventing her from moving. Instantly, she recognized it as the same ability that she used to have, telekinesis.
’But whoever is using this ability is stronger than my old one,’ Layla thought, then turned to the tall blonde girl, ’It must be her.’
The tall blonde girl pretended to string her bow, feigning innocence.
Yanking her foot out of the telekinetic hold, Layla tried to continue on, when a shelf full of training equipment fell in front of her. Immediately, she twisted around to the blonde girl, who glanced her way and smiled.
In the past, Layla was sure she would’ve gotten angry at her, but she kept a calm, cool head.
She walked over the fallen equipment, but standing in her way were a pair of identical twins with short hair parted to the side. Brother and sister, Layla assumed, as one of them had washboard abs unlike the other.
"You can tell she’s a level 2 because she’s not even fighting back!" The brother joked, to which his sister giggled.
The tall blonde girl got behind Layla, and they surrounded on all sides.
Unfortunately, Layla couldn’t take out her bow as it was stored within her shadow space, and it would reveal that her ability wasn’t telekinesis.
’I could reveal my shadow despite this, as they don’t know what my ability is,’ Layla contemplated for a brief moment, but realized that wouldn’t be smart either. The shadow ability wasn’t known to the world, that would raise several questions.
As Layla was contemplating the best course of action, they heard a deep voice call out.
"She’s with me!"
They all turned towards the source of the sound, and saw a large bulky looking man who’s head resembled a block of wood. On his watch displayed the number 7.
The three looked at the newcomer, and started bursting out in laughter.
"You’re with a level 2? You know you can do better, you don’t have to do charity work," The tall blonde teased.
The level 7 boy wrapped an arm around Layla, and stared at them all, "That’s why I’m not helping you, I don’t do charity."
The two girls of the trio glanced at each other, confused. Was he stupid not to know they were talking about the level 2 girl? Or was he actually trying to insult them?
That was when the level 7 boy’s arm lifted, and turned into a silvery color, "You know, there’s a reason why I’m the only second year who isn’t a level 8. I would be glad to provide a demonstration."
The trio readied their weapons, and the strange blocky boy didn’t seem to want to back down from the fight. Tension grew in the air, becoming thicker by the second. Layla herself even mentally prepared for a battle.
Before an all out fight could occur, a soldier wearing a dark blue uniform nearby came up to the students, a stern look to him.
"If you are itching for battle, save it for the competition," He scolded, "Otherwise, I may be forced to disqualify you lot."
The trio immediately stepped away, with the tall girl raising her hands, "I wasn’t doing anything, sir! I was just showing this young girl around."
The soldier shot her a look, and she knew he wasn’t buying it. Her usual tricks wouldn’t work at military base 1.
"Come on, let’s go," the sister scoffed, and the trio left.
With the conflict handled, the soldier returned to his post, leaving Layla and the blocky boy together.
"I appreciate the help," Layla stated in a monotone voice.
"No problem!" The boy said cheerfully, "Oh yeah, how can I forget! The name’s Nate."
Layla took in Nate’s name to memory. It was certainly a better name than the one she was going to mentally give him, which was "Blocky."
She nodded, indicating she heard him, and was about to leave, when a thought entered her head.
"Actually, can you come with me," Layla said, adding in a touch of pleading to her tone of voice.
"Of course," Nate said, running up to her side, "Do you need my help with anything else?"
His voice sounded genuine, which she couldn’t say about her own. Ever since she became a vetala, it was like her emotions were dulled. As a result, her tone of voice came off flat. However, Layla remembered a few lessons from her Pure training.
The lessons of acting.
This wasn’t to say that Layla was lying, she really did need Nate’s help, as she had a feeling if she walked alone, those three would come back later to bother her.
"I just need someone as strong as you to help," Layla then added a smile, which seemed to do something to Nate as there was a sudden glow to his face.
’I knew it! My hair cut really is winning me with the girls!’ Nate thought.
The two left the training center, and down the doorway that led to the sleeping quarters.
"By the way, don’t let those people get to you," Nate said, then pumped his chest, "If they ever try messing with you again, then just call for me."
"Okay," Layla said blankly, then added, "My name is Layla."
She opened the door and entered inside immediately after that. The door automatically shutting behind her.
’Did I come off as rude?’ Layla briefly wondered.
Setting that thought to the side, she investigated the fancy sleeping quarters for any recording devices, or bugs. Even though controlling a corpse wouldn’t make her main body appear suspicious, that didn’t mean knowing just how open she could be about their plans wasn’t useful.
In the middle of her investigation of the room, a ping was heard on the computer in the room.
Layla thought it odd, since she knew for a fact that she didn’t log onto it, nor was there the possibility that someone forgot to log off. This was a private room, supposedly.
On the screen was a picture of an envelope with a red wax seal. What was engraved in the wax was the image of an angel losing its wings.
It was the iconography Layla grew up seeing every day of her early life. The symbol of Pure.
