Chapter 255: Nothing Happened

The unknown man’s lips moved, "Ultimate Ability ─ Event Absorption."

The very next moment, the massive thunder surrounding his body disappeared, but it did not simply vanish into thin air as though the attack had ended naturally. Instead, the thunder was absorbed directly into the unknown man’s body, and that wasn’t the only thing that disappeared.

The entire "event" of the Law of Thunder interfering with his attempt was absorbed as well, meaning the interference itself had effectively been removed from the sequence of events.

The Dragon Emperor, who could follow the instantaneous process despite its terrifying speed, narrowed his eyes as he carefully observed the unknown man. He had seen countless Unique Abilities throughout his existence, but this was different because the man wasn’t simply absorbing an attack, energy, or some physical substance.

He had absorbed an entire event, including the effect that a Law had produced upon him, "To think the fusion of two Unique Abilities can produce an effect capable of countering the effects of Laws. Hmm... The ideology behind this is quite good."

For a brief moment, Zaakrax wondered what kind of result would appear if he were to fuse both of his own Unique Abilities together. The thought was interesting enough to make him consider it seriously, but he soon shook his head because there were clearly other conditions involved besides simply possessing two Unique Abilities and forcing them together.

After all, the unknown man was clearly from an ancient era that had already been forgotten by this World, and Zaakrax could sense that the man’s soul was far older than that of any powerhouse currently residing in Eliomor.

Even if Zaakrax somehow fulfilled the unknown conditions required to fuse his own abilities, he doubted that his two Unique Abilities could be combined as easily as this man’s had been.

Their natures were completely opposite, and trying to force them together could potentially create an entirely different situation, ’It would most likely result in all the Laws interfering at once.’

After reaching that conclusion, Zaakrax dismissed the matter completely and floated upward until he reached the same height as Kael and the unknown man, deciding that there was no reason to involve himself in an experiment that could potentially create an even greater problem.

Kael, meanwhile, was having a completely different reaction as the System continued analyzing the ability that had just appeared. He had already understood that Event Absorption was dangerous from the moment he watched the thunder disappear, but the System’s next statement made him realize that the situation had changed far more than he had expected.

[...Host, you alone won’t be enough to defeat him anymore, what he just did now broke all the limits as to how much stronger he can grow.]

Kael’s expression immediately became serious as he asked internally, ’What does that mean?’

Kael had heard the unknown man announce the name of his Ultimate Ability, and from the name alone he could already guess that its applications were going to be terrifying.

Even so, he had remained confident that he could still defeat the man with his own abilities and Soul Force, so the System suddenly telling him that he was no longer enough made him stay on edge.

The moment Kael read the information, his eyes widened in horror as he finally understood the true scale of what the unknown man had gained.

This wasn’t simply an ability that allowed him to absorb attacks, because if the System’s analysis was correct, almost any event occurring in the present could potentially become something he could absorb. The stronger or more significant the event, the stronger the unknown man would become, which meant that fighting him could potentially make him stronger instead of weakening him.

’For the second time, I’m seeing someone without a System possessing something this ridiculous.’

Kael immediately remembered Atlas, the first person he had encountered in this World who possessed abilities that seemed completely unreasonable even by the standards of his System.

Now he was looking at another person who had obtained something equally absurd without relying on a System, and this time the problem was even more troublesome because the man’s growth apparently had no upper limit.

Kael’s attention shifted back toward the unknown man, who seemed to be undergoing some kind of transformation after absorbing the event, and his eyes narrowed as another thought appeared in his mind.

’The stronger the event, the stronger he grows, that means...’

Kael couldn’t finish the thought before an enormous burst of energy suddenly erupted from the unknown man’s body.

BOOOOOOOOOOOM!!

The shockwave spread through the surrounding area with enough force that even the rulers nearby immediately activated their defensive techniques to protect themselves, while the surrounding space trembled under the pressure.

Kael simply shifted his position slightly higher into the sky, moving far enough away that the shockwaves became negligible, and from there he looked down at the unknown man as his transformation continued.

The man’s appearance had changed once again, and a small horn had emerged from the center of his forehead while both of his hands became covered in what appeared to be dark draconic scales.

At the same time, the organic armor that had previously been stitched directly into his flesh began shredding apart, exposing his body underneath. Kael’s eyes narrowed when he saw that the man’s entire body was now covered with black scales, almost as though another layer of natural armor had been injected directly into his flesh, but what caught Kael’s attention the most was the horn on his forehead.

The horn was releasing an enormous amount of thunderous power, and Kael immediately understood that it was most likely the power the unknown man had absorbed from the Law of Thunder’s interference.

The sheer intensity of that thunder made Kael’s expression become serious as he watched the man below, because this was no longer an ordinary elemental attack that could be dealt with through brute force. ’System, that Thunder is stronger than an Elemental Thunder attack, right?’ he asked internally while keeping his eyes fixed on the transformed man.

[Yes, Host. It is approximately a thousand times stronger than an Elemental Thunder. Vesper and Noctis won’t be able to cut through it because that thunder directly originated from a Law.]

Kael frowned when he heard the System’s answer because he didn’t like having his two strongest weapons rendered useless so quickly.

However, there was no point stubbornly using them when the System had already confirmed that they couldn’t cut through an attack originating directly from a Law.

After thinking for a moment, Kael sighed and sent Vesper and Noctis back into his Inventory. "Sorry, but I’ll call you two out when the situation calls for it." The two weapons glowed once before disappearing into the Inventory.

With that Kael moved again, Instant shift instinctively turning active as he appeared in front of the man while saying, "Monolog Series – Defense Nullification".
