Bloodbound: The Unwanted Outcast And Her Vampire Mates
Chapter 32-Dreadful book
Chapter 32: 32-Dreadful book
"Give me one reason why I shouldn’t kill you right here!" She demanded.
White fangs slowly descended. They were sharp and firm and appeared with intention. "I only need to feed you one unwilling drop of my blood, and you know exactly what happens after that."
Luan did know that every noble vampire did. He went pale. Whiteblood willingly shared by the owner could heal almost anything while whiteblood taken without consent or given half-heartedly became the deadliest poison known to vampirekind.
There was no cure for it once someone intentionally or accidentally drank it. Luan into her crimson eyes to find even an ounce of hesitation, but he found none. She was dead serious.
He forced the words out. "I... haven’t told you... anyone..."
Varitreya searched his eyes, looking for deceit or any sign of being tricked. With Luan, there was always an extra layer, and she knew that even if she searched forever, as long he meant to appear innocent then, he must certainly would.
Finding none trace of a lie, not that she trusted his eyes to tell the truth, despite that she slowly released him.
There were many reasons why she couldn’t go through with it. One, it would fuel the fire of the scandal and chaos and give her mother reasons to continue questioning her.
Second, it would aid in providing more reasons for Adelaide Challan to advocate against redbloods. She could already see the vampire accusing Maisa of influencing her to kill a noble blueblood
Third, his parents were important figures in vampire nations. The death of their son and heir would spark their revolt against the crown. She couldn’t have that.
"Let me think on it for a minute," she stepped back two paces.
Luan dropped to one knee, coughing violently. The Princess never apologized to him. Instead, she stared at him, and murderous intent never once left her eyes.
"Explain yourself, Luan."
Luan carefully reached inside his coat. The sudden movement made Varitreya tense again. She got ready to crash him dead the moment he made any funny move.
Then, he produced the ancient leather-bound book that he found at the library. "I found this," he presented the book to her.
Her eyes fell upon the cover titled; TRUE HEART SIRE BOND. She frowned. Never in her life had she heard of such a book, even the name, however sweet sounding, gave her chills.
"Where did you find such a dreadful looking book?"
"The academy library."
Varitreya was now certain that something was amiss. She had read all the books in the school library and never once had sje encountered such a book. "I’ve never seen that book before."
"Neither had I," he admitted and held it toward her. "I think... you need to read it."
Varitreya accepted it cautiously. The leather felt impossibly ancient beneath her fingertips. She looked up at Luan, down to the book and back at the vampire again. She had her many doubts about the book and had a bad feeling about why Luan ran all the way to the palace to have her read.
He could have waited for her to find her way back to the school and given to her. But he missed classes and broke the academy rules of leaving without permission to get her the book. That was enough for her heart to feel uncomfortable.
She opened the first page, and then, she began reading. As a whiteblood royal, her mind processed information far beyond ordinary vampires.
Pages turned almost faster than human eyes could follow. Even Luan had focused fully without blinking the keep up with her pace.
One, five, ten, twenty pages. In less than two minutes, she had read through the book and reached the final page.
The room became completely silent when she shut the book closed. The book slowly lowered from her hands.
"No..." she uttered, the single word barely escaped her lips as her denial over what she had read.
Luan watched every emotion appear and disappear from her face. She went through shock, disbelief, fear, and finally, something heartbreakingly close to despair.
Her fingers tightened around the ancient pages. The book described an existence so rare that most vampire scholars believed it nothing more than myth or didn’t know of it at all.
The true heart as she read it was not just a book title. It was a prophecy of a living vampire. One born or in extraordinarily rare circumstances awakened to become the centre of several destined mates simultaneously.
The book continued to say that the four destined partners of the true weren’t random. Each represented one of the naturally born bloodlines; whitebloo, blackbloo, blueblood, and mixedblood. In rare cases, the true heart awakens the four mates of one bloodline.
Together, they became the four chambers surrounding the true heart. Without them, the true heart remained incomplete, and without the true heart, their awakened hearts would never truly know peace.
And is told dangerous tales of what happens when mates didn’t confirm acceptance of the bond for both the true heart and the mates. Those consequences scared her. It left no room to reject the bond.
Varitreya’s hand unconsciously drifted toward the place above her own wrist where the bond mark rested hidden beneath royal fabric.
"It..." her voice trembled. "...was never an accident. This was destined to happen."
Luan remained silent. He had no words to comment on the bond between them.
Varitreya continued reading sections again. Slower and careful this time. She was searching desperately for something she might have misunderstood while reading the first time.
Then, she reread the sentence that shattered what little hope remained: once awakened, the true heart bond can not be severed by blood, death, magic, royalty, distance, or will.
Her breathing stopped as her eyes widened while rereading that sentence over and over again.
"No... this can’t be. You can’t condemn me like this."
She turned pages frantically. Searching again and again for an alternative way to break the bond. No matter how many pages she flipped through, their was nothing about how to break the bond.
Every Chapter repeated the same truth. That there was no cure she could find, no ritual she could perform, no loophole for her to take advantage of and no escape because the bond could never be broken.
The book slipped from her fingers. It landed softly upon the carpet. Varitreya staggered backwards until her legs struck the edge of a chair.
She slowly sat down without realizing it. For the first time since Luan had known her, the princess and future queen looked lost.
She stared toward the moon beyond the palace windows. The world around her growing silent.
Images flashed through her mind to haunt her reality; Maisa trembling inside the council chamber, Maisa screaming inside the combat arena, Maisa drinking from her wrist and Maisa sleeping peacefully in her arms when she carried her out.
Her hand slowly rose to her own chest. She could still feel her heart racing and the impossible warmth that came with her heart beating for Maisa and feeling the others.
That heartbeat, the fast and soft beat. "Forever..." she whispered the word as though tasting poison. "I... am bound to a redblood... forever?" Her voice broke.
The sound wasn’t loud or dramatic, just enough for Luan to hear the heartbreak hidden beneath years of royal composure.
Everything she had been raised to believe, every lesson about bloodline purity, every expectation placed upon her shoulders as the future queen of the vampire nation, every political marriage discussed by the palace and every dream carefully built around preserving the whiteblood line had collapsed beneath a single truth.
Maisa, that single name thar changed everything. The frightened, newly turned redblood she had wanted to reject with every fibre of her being was the true heart and nothing, not royal authority and not the Queen or the Blood Council could change what she meant to them.
Her heart tightened. Varitreya could barely believe it. A newly turned vampire had changed the course of her life forever, not by saving the world or moving a mountain but by simply existing.
"Where did you find this book?" Her eyes sharpened at the cursed book that declared she was stuck with a bond for life.
"Third shelf on the last row of the western part of the library," Luan replied.
Varitreya narrowed her eyes, and she searched through her mind. She had gone through the library shelf by shelf and had every book memorised, yet it was her first time reading that book.
"Was the library restocked while I was away?"
"No, their was a riot and chaos in the academy. The staff barely have the students under control. They don’t have time to take inventory, let alone restock," he informed her.
Varitreya’s whole body clammed up. The book holding the answers to their problem appearing so suddenly didn’t add up. Even their bookworm, Lumi, who lives in the library, hadn’t seen the book.
She started running down the irregularities. Maisa shows up on her first night, and she awakens their bond. Now, a book explaining the bond shows up out of nowhere, which meant someone deliberately left that book there.
And if someone planted the book, she couldn’t help but wonder what else was being plotted behind the scenes.
