Noah was not sure what Daniel was saying. All he heard was something about 102.5 and Daniel asking him to stand up.

But whenever Noah tried to put any strength into his legs, they gave up, and he collapsed. Luckily, he did so backwards, and he sat back down on the bed instead of falling down.

His head still spun, but this was better than trying to figure out what was happening. At least he had support now that would allow him to lean against it and make him feel better...

Daniel was grabbing his arm and trying to pull him up, and Noah tried to look at him, but it was honestly too much effort. All he wanted to do was close his eyes and go to sleep—

"Noah, keep yourself awake. This will be worse if you fall asleep now. Darn it! I am going to try and pick you up now. Just don’t panic, alright?"

Daniel asked, and Noah tried to nod and tell him he understood. But he only made noises when he opened his mouth.

Not that Daniel seemed to care much for his input.

The other guide brought Noah’s arm above his shoulder and started to drag him out.

Somehow, Daniel was strong enough to pull Noah along. But as much as Noah wanted to help him out by pulling his own weight, his body felt far too tired, causing him to close his eyes and fall asleep.

...

Noah finally fell asleep against Daniel while he was dragging him out, and Daniel did not know whether he felt relieved or annoyed by this.

Honestly, Noah trying to pull his own weight had been a little annoying because he kept trying to shift, making it difficult for Daniel to pull him along. But carrying his whole body weight was also not easy.

In the end, Daniel shifted Noah onto his back with the help of some other students and entered the medical wing with the other guide on his back.

Professor Ethan was drinking his tea when he noticed that he had a visitor, and he frowned at first. But then he saw Daniel’s face and Noah draped across his back, and he let out the biggest sigh Daniel had ever seen.

"It’s just you two? What brings you here? What kind of injury is it this time?"

He asked as he gestured for Daniel to put Noah down on the bed. Daniel did as he was asked to, but he remained by Noah’s side and even grabbed his hand to keep being connected to the shorter guide.

Ethan noticed this but chose not to comment. Instead, he touched Noah’s forehead and hissed immediately.

"Ah, I see what the problem is. How long has he been like this?"

Ethan asked as he started to bring out a thermometer as well as other equipment from his side. He also brought an IV drip that could be needed depending on the state Noah was in.

Daniel frowned at the preparation, not liking where this was going. But he also realised that he had been asked a question and pulled his head back.

"I first noticed that Noah was sick a few minutes ago. He came back to our room, all pale and tired, and then he collapsed. I decided to check up on him because I was worried, only to see that he was burning with a fever. Will he be alright?"

Daniel asked as he looked down at Noah with a worried face.

He wanted to believe that Noah would pull through this, but honestly, he was not so sure about this. After all, he had seen too many people die the same way before.

Professor Ethan noticed Daniel’s worried look and patted him on the back to reassure him.

"It will be fine. I will make sure Noah gets the treatment he deserves. Now, let’s see. Hiss. His temperature is too high. It’s 103 already. We need to bring it down. I will get started on the drip."

The doctor carefully pricked Noah’s hand as he inserted the IV, and the drip started.

Daniel felt like the colour was returning to Noah’s face as the drip emptied, but maybe it was his mind playing tricks on him.

Well, whatever it was, he felt far better now that a professional was involved.

The drip finally finished, and Noah’s breathing eased a little. He reached out toward Noah, but Daniel stopped him.

"Don’t touch Noah unnecessarily. He will be fine now, so you should relax a little as well. I will set up a private section for you two, so you can rest here for a while."

Professor Ethan assured Daniel, and he turned to look at his professor with a grateful look on his face.

Cough

"Anyway, Noah will be fine after a while. I am sure he will wake up soon."

Ethan assured him, and Daniel nodded. Now that the situation was calming down, he felt like he could breathe properly once more.

"Professor."

"Yes."

"Why don’t you heal Noah with your powers? If you can heal wounds—"

"Unfortunately, it does not work like that. My power heals, but it also causes incredible pain. Healing injuries is fine because the pain is temporary, but sicknesses like these spread through the whole body. If I try, then it would only end up overloading his nervous system, causing death by shock."

Professor Ethan spoke with such certainty that Daniel felt speechless. He had a feeling he should not ask his professor how he was so sure about this.

Some things were better kept secret, after all.

Anyway, Ethan looked at Noah’s sleeping body and decided that it was better to pay attention to it than to think about other stuff.

He reached out to grab Noah’s hand once Professor Ethan left, and he brought it up to his forehead and rested it against him.

"Noah, please wake up soon and prove to me that you are alright. I won’t be able to relax otherwise."
