After reassuring the kids for a while, it was time for Noah to head back to his room and rest as well. But there was a weird tension in the air that he could not ignore.

His instincts told him that he needed to stay alert if he wanted to catch any intruders. But honestly, who would be stupid enough to come to these labs?

Not only was the security high, but the other substances could end up killing people before they even knew it.

Still, if there was an intruder in here, then it was Noah’s responsibility to check on them and make sure they were dealt with.

Noah allowed his instincts to guide him towards the familiar but foreign energy he could sense. And just as he was about to strike and knock the other person out, he felt an energy heading towards him.

Something struck him from behind, and Noah felt an intense pain in his head.

"I am sorry. I do not have beef with you. But if I need to get you out of the way to shut this lab down, then I will—"

It hurt too much. Noah’s head was ringing right now, but what was even worse was the fact that his assailant was someone familiar.

The voice speaking in his ear was one he knew quite well, and he looked back, only to see Daniel’s face.

The other guide looked determined but sorry for hurting him. But that look changed to horror once he saw the face of the person he had hit.

"Noah, you—! Hey, don’t lose consciousness. I did not know it was you, and I... hey, keep your eyes open."

But it was so hard to keep his eyes open. The drugs in Noah’s system were making it hard for him to react, and all he needed to do was close his eyes and sleep...

However, Noah could not go to sleep right now. He needed to stay awake and help those kids out. He needed to get them out of here...

"Noah, stay awake!"

But perhaps he did not need to do anything.

With Daniel here, there was a chance that Alan was here as well. And these two would be able to get those kids out. Noah needed to convey this to them.

"D-Daniel—"

His voice was merely a whisper, not loud enough for anyone to hear. But Daniel still knelt down in front of him so that he could hear what Noah had to say.

"Noah, speak up. What do you need—?!"

"The kids... save... the... kids... first..."

It was beginning to hurt to say these words aloud, and Noah had a hard time getting them out. But he knew that he needed to say this so that Daniel would help those kids.

Not that Daniel was a bastard who had no sympathy for the kids. But he needed to be aware of them first to include them in their plans.

"Darn it! Now is not the time to be saying this. Hey, keep yourself awake—"

But it was too hard, and sleep felt so nice and warm. He just needed to close his eyes for a moment...

"Alan, hurry up and help here. Noah is—"

Noah’s mind stopped processing after that, and he took a deep breath, but he felt himself choking.

And it hurt...

Not being able to breathe hurt a lot, and Noah gasped for breath as he tried to push himself up. But his body felt heavier, and he was sinking deeper...

...

Noah woke up with a gasp, and his body protested as he tried to stand up. But he ignored all these signs and still pushed himself up. He looked at the head researcher, who was giving him an amused look.

"What’s wrong? Did you have a bad dream? Was the future you saw so bad that your whole body jerked?"

The head researcher was kneeling beside Noah on the forest patch, and his hand was patting the guide’s hair. He looked delighted to see that Noah was awake, and it made Noah inexplicably angry to see this.

But he controlled his expression, wanting to ask the questions that were plaguing his mind.

However, his body was still hurting, and all he could let out were pained moans.

"I can almost guess what you saw in the future. Was it fun working for me? I am sure I was a delight to you."

The head researcher beamed, but Noah felt his insides go cold.

How did this man know about the future Noah saw? No one should be able to know for certain... unless...

"Did you... know about it...?"

Noah tried to form his sentence in a way that made sense. But this was the best he could get out, and the head researcher let out a laugh.

"Well, since you used my ability to perceive the future, of course I knew what you saw. Did you think the reason your life went so smoothly was a coincidence?"

The elder esper asked with a grin on his face. He was handsome, but right now, he looked like a devil in Noah’s eyes.

It felt like all his efforts thus far had been for nothing, and tears stung Noah’s eyes.

He felt like he had wasted so much time while doing nothing. But the head researcher did not seem to care.

He straightened his back and helped Noah up as well. He even dodged the small punch Noah tried to throw at him with a smile on his face.

"Well, it seems like this will be the end for today. I will come back to take you home later. Be a good kid and don’t refuse at that time, alright?"

The head researcher patted Noah’s head even amidst that chaos, and then he left.

Noah felt his insides boiling with rage, but he knew that there was little he could do to help this situation. Ultimately, he had to calm down and rethink everything he knew. Was everything... all a misunderstanding on his part?
