Chapter 217: Ch 217: Found Out? - Part 2

Daniel offered to take care of these people for Noah, but sending him out alone did not make sense to Noah.

Perhaps it was because he had just had a nightmare in which he had sent kids to their deaths, and that had affected him, but he did not want Daniel to head out to his possible imprisonment.

So he grabbed Daniel’s sleeve to hold him back.

The other guide, who had not expected this, just blinked at Noah and tried to open his mouth to protest.

"Noah, I-"

But the sudden rush of guiding between them made Noah immediately let go of the arm he was holding, and he looked at Daniel as if he had been shocked and betrayed.

He did not know why his guiding was flowing into Daniel, but it was an unpleasant thought. Various thoughts were going through his head, but the most prominent ones all pointed to the same thing.

The labs and experiments.

"Daniel, did you participate in an experiment in the labs?"

Noah asked with a betrayed expression, which caused Daniel to flinch. He could see Daniel moving his mouth, wondering what he should say.

But in the end, he decided to go with the truth.

"I... did participate in the lab’s experiments. But it was not as extreme as you expected. The experiments were simple, and I made sure they wouldn’t cause any permanent harm. You believe me, right? I only conducted experiments that affected me-"

Noah had already guessed this much, but hearing these words out loud made him feel like he was losing his mind.

"What kind of idiot...! Never mind that! Just tell me what experiments you participated in. I will see if I want to forgive you based on that."

It was hard for Noah to control his temper, but he still somehow managed to do so and speak these words calmly.

After another flinch, Daniel finally decided to tell him.

"After you left, I felt hopeless. I kept wondering if it was my fault that you felt like you could not stay back and depend on us. So when the labs said that they could give me power, I was hesitant. But I wanted to bring you back, so I-"

Noah raised his hand to show that he had heard enough. Any more than this and he would feel his head bursting.

Besides, as much as he wanted to argue, he knew that this was his fault as well. He had caused Daniel to become like this.

If only he had not gotten tangled up with Daniel, then he would have lived such a better life... they both could have lived such a better life.

Daniel cupped his face, almost as if he knew what Noah was thinking, and he had a panicked expression on his face.

"That is not true. Don’t you dare think that this is true, alright? ...I am glad we met and that we had an influence on each other."

Daniel stressed these words, wanting Noah to believe him. And Noah did believe him to an extent. He sighed and put his own hand over Daniel’s before lowering that hand onto his cheek.

"I understand. Still, I want to know more about your current situation. Show me the paperwork for your experiment, and this time, don’t hide anything."

Daniel bit his lip, almost as if he regretted saying what he was about to. But he had to come clean now.

"I cannot show you any paperwork. It is back at the labs. They did not issue me a copy, and at that time, I was too preoccupied to ask for one either. So I-"

"I see. I guess that makes our decision easier. We will be heading back to the labs to get your paperwork. And in the meantime, you might as well fulfil the Esper-Guide Centre’s duty."

Noah told Daniel in a simple voice, causing Daniel to flinch.

"Is it truly necessary? We can stay here and-"

"I am not risking your life! We have no idea what complications this decision of yours can cause. And I am not about to lose someone else in my life for ridiculous reasons."

Noah raised his voice, causing Daniel to take a step back. He looked hesitant, almost as if he did not know what to say to appease Noah’s anger. But that was good. This was what Noah wanted from him anyway.

"I understand. But it won’t be easy for us to take you back to the Esper-Guide base or the labs. The place is secret-"

"Then I will register as a worker there. You might be forgetting, but I am an esper as well. I might be a B-grade, but I-"

"Don’t! You will be eaten alive if you do that. I will find a way to get you in there, so you don’t have to worry about anything, alright? Just give me a few days."

Daniel looked really desperate when he made this request, and Noah did feel a little bit bad. But he decided that Daniel needed to pay at least this much for worrying him as he had.

"Alright. I will leave it up to you. Now, shall we go and find Alan and Ethan? I have a feeling they have my guests terrified."

Daniel almost protested that there was no need for that. But the look on Noah’s face immediately made him close his mouth and nod along with him. For now, it was better if he followed along and allowed Noah to do what he wanted. Otherwise, who knew what could end up happening.

"How long are you all going to hide from me? Am I really so scary that you are hiding like this? This feels ridiculous, don’t you agree?"

Alan asked with a giggle in his voice as he walked out of the house and looked around. He had already taken care of a few espers who had snuck into the house, and now it was time to take care of the rest.

He was going to have fun playing with these bastards.
