Breeder To The Brutal Alpha King

Chapter 141: Away From Him

Chapter 141: Away From Him

Rebecca’s POV

The ride to Kane’s pack territory felt endless. The silence inside the car was heavy, broken only by the quiet hum of the tires against the road. Beside me, Kane stayed on his side of the seat, staring out into the dark. I kept my eyes fixed on my hands, my mind spinning with his last words. Two days. What did he mean by that?

By the time the car finally slowed down, the moon was high in the sky.

We drove through a set of massive iron gates that marked the border of Kane’s pack. Unlike Kaden’s cold, ancient stone palace, Kane’s estate looked different. It was a huge, modern mansion surrounded by thick pine trees. The house was brightly lit, casting long shadows across the wide driveway.

As the car stopped, several guards in uniforms quickly stepped forward. They opened the doors and bowed their heads respectfully.

"Welcome back, Alpha Kane," one of the guards said, his eyes sliding to me for a split second before he looked down.

Kane nodded smoothly as he stepped out of the car. He turned around and waited for me, stepping back to give me space.

I slowly climbed out of the vehicle, my legs stiff and shaking from the long drive. The cool night air hit my face, and I looked around the unfamiliar grounds. Everything here felt different. The scent of the pack was different. It lacked the heavy, suffocating power of Kaden’s territory, but I still felt unease deep inside me. I was a stranger in a new wolf pack, completely unprotected.

"Follow me, Rebecca," Kane said gently, gesturing toward the grand front doors.

I kept my distance, walking a few steps behind him as he led me into the house. The inside of the mansion was vast, with high ceilings and polished floors. The guards we passed bowed to Kane, but they all kept their eyes lowered, ignoring me completely. It was clear Kane had given them strict orders before we even arrived.

We walked up a wide, winding staircase and down a carpeted hallway on the second floor. Finally, Kane stopped in front of a pair of large double doors at the very end of the hall. He pushed them open and stepped aside.

"This is your room," Kane said.

I walked inside, and my breath caught. The room was huge and beautiful. It was a massive, luxury suite with a king-sized bed covered in soft white sheets, a large velvet couch, and a fireplace that was already crackling with a warm fire. Large windows looked out over the dark forest. It was twice the size of my quarters back at Kaden’s palace, and it didn’t feel like a prison. It felt like a room meant for a high-ranking guest.

I stood in the center of the room, feeling completely lost in the space.

"It’s late, and you’ve had a long night," Kane said from the doorway. He didn’t step inside, respecting my space. "Get some rest. No one will disturb you here. We will talk about the plan tomorrow."

I didn’t say anything. I just gave a small, tense nod.

Kane looked at me for a moment longer, his expression unreadable, before he pulled the heavy doors shut. I heard his footsteps fade away down the hall, followed by the quiet sound of a guard taking his post outside.

The moment I was completely alone, the silence of the room crashed down on me.

I dragged my exhausted body over to the edge of the plush bed and sat down. The mattress was incredibly soft and comfy. I pulled my knees up to my chest, wrapping my arms around them tightly as I stared into the dancing flames of the fireplace.

Did I do the right thing?

The question echoed painfully in my mind. For weeks, all I had wanted was to escape Kaden’s heavy grip, to flee from his anger and the cruel words he hurled at me. Leaving that palace should have felt like winning a war. It should have felt like freedom.

But for a strange, frustrating reason, my heart felt completely hollow.

Every time I closed my eyes, I didn’t see Kane’s modern mansion or the beautiful room I was sitting in. Instead, the image of Kaden standing entirely alone on that high royal balcony flashed behind my eyelids.

I bit my lower lip, a lone tear slipping down my cheek. I hated him for breaking me. I feared him for what he was capable of. Yet, being away from his roof made a terrifying emptiness bloom in my chest.

I was safe from his rage for thirty days, but as I stared at the shadows on the wall, a chilling thought crossed my mind.

I was missing him.

How ridiculous it sounded, but it was the truth.

Eventually, exhaustion took over. I pulled the soft sheets over my body and drifted off into a deep sleep. But sleep brought no peace. I had countless dreams that night, and in every single one of them, I saw Kaden. I saw him tracking me down, breaking through the iron gates, and storming into this territory with his dark green eyes glowing, coming to take me back by force. Every time he reached out for me in the dark, I would wake up gasping, only to fall back into the same nightmare.

When I finally woke up for good, it was late morning. The bright sun was high in the sky, streaming through the large windows and warming the room.

I sat up on the comfy mattress, rubbing my eyes as I looked around the unfamiliar luxury suite. The fire in the fireplace had died down to gray ash. I took a slow breath, the realization hitting me all over again.

So, last night wasn’t a dream. I was really away from Alpha Kaden.

Suddenly, a soft knock came on the heavy double doors, breaking the morning silence. I pulled the sheets up to my chest nervously.

"Come in," I called out, my voice a bit raspy from sleep.

The doors pushed open, and two women dressed in neat maid uniforms walked into the room and bowed respectfully to me. Before I could even say a word or tell them they didn’t have to treat me like royalty, they both bowed deeply again to me.

They held a beautiful blue dress in their hands, their heads kept low out of respect.

"Good morning, Miss Rebecca," one of the maids said gently. "Please freshen up and wear this dress. The Alpha is waiting for you in his study."
