"Avery Jane, I told you, I don’t want any promises from you, I just want you to live well. I want to take good care of you." The hospital was bustling with people, noisy and chaotic, but his voice was like a warm beam of light shining on her. She couldn’t offer him anything in return. In the past, for Wenyard Cooper, it was either admiration or a bit of unexplainable affection. But for Joshua Hughes, it was true love; a love that seemed to blend into her very blood, an indelible mark. Yet she couldn’t love him because the things he did meant she could never face him again, she couldn’t forgive him.

Moreover, today, today he didn’t seem to care about what had happened to her at all. He just stood there and watched her fall to the ground. Men are heartless; he only sought her out of novelty, and now that he had a fresher allure, he didn’t even glance at her. There was a time when she had wondered if Joshua Hughes might like her, but it was never the case. This was also why she hated him the most—knowing full well that after she remembered everything, they could never be together, yet he remained so delicate, so passionately fiery, making it impossible for her not to fall in love with him. That man is a true devil, stealing her heart without her knowing...

:"Avery Jane, this is a new life, half of the blood comes from you. Do it for yourself, you have a reason to live bravely now. You will be everything to this child; you will be this child’s faith, the sky this child relies on the most. Avery Jane, this is your responsibility." Beckett Wright said firmly, hoping a child could give Avery Jane the courage to live her life to the fullest.

Avery Jane’s eyes were like stars at midnight, and one day she would become someone else’s faith, and that someone was her child. Such words were both beautiful and moving. But she didn’t want to owe him, not at all.

:"Don’t think too much now, Avery Jane. I’ll find a pair of flat shoes for you; the doctor said you mustn’t wear shoes like these anymore. Let’s go home and plan, alright? We can’t stay long in this hospital lounge." Beckett urged Avery Jane not to get up, to lie down a little longer. He then ran out in a hurry, heading to a nearby convenience store outside the hospital to buy a pair of slippers for her to change into. Before leaving, he instructed the nurse to keep an eye on her and prevent her from getting out of bed.

Pushing the gas pedal, he thought of the sight of Beckett holding her frail body, and it almost killed him. Once, his embrace was her everything; when he held her, he could feel every soft curve of her body. But today, he watched as another man held her. The breath was scorching, mixed with the anguish of heartache and jealousy. He was scared, knowing he was about to lose her, afraid he wouldn’t have a chance to recover, fearing each missed opportunity would be the last. His whole ear was buzzing, the smell of disinfectant in the hospital was piercing, and people coming and going seemed like phantoms. He pushed through the crowd, looking anxious, yet his alluring, compelling face still captivated the nurses’ attention, who kept turning to look at him.

In a simple little bed in the lounge next to the emergency room, her thin body lay there, skin pallid, eyes closed, long lashes casting fragile shadows below, making one’s heart ache painfully. What was wrong with her? Was she not resting well? Or hadn’t she been eating properly these days? Joshua Hughes looked at her, his heart aching like a knife...

His powerful aura, mixed with the increasingly strong musk with every step he took, came rushing over. Avery Jane’s heart trembled, and as her emotions surged up and down, her stomach began to cramp...

"Avery, what’s wrong? What happened to you?" Joshua Hughes looked at Avery Jane in the bed. How long had it been? She was already much slimmer, her face as pale as paper. Suppressing the labored breathing that came rushing in, Joshua Hughes tried hard to keep his tone calm. He had promised not to entangle with her, but how could he possibly let go? He couldn’t let go at all. He needed to see for himself that she was alright, or he’d worry himself to death.
