Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game
Chapter 1008 - 524: Joshua Hughes, I’ve Gotten My Comeuppance (2)
Looking at Luis Hughes with eyebrows and eyes somewhat similar to his own, Joshua Hughes felt unparalleled disgust. It was evidence of his mother’s affair, a constant reminder of how his father had been humiliated back then.
With sharp, pressed lips, he spoke lowly and intently: "Do you want to walk out on your own, or be carried out?" Joshua unfastened his suit buttons, then pulled off his tie, unbuttoned two shirt buttons, exposing a rugged collarbone. As he took off his cufflinks and rolled up his shirt sleeves, he revealed his muscular tanned forearms. Luis eyed him, seeing the beast-like crimson eyes unlike usual, watching him step by step approaching, his previously arrogant demeanor was inexplicably subdued.
His mind was filled with the recent scene — Beckett Wright wrapped Avery Jane in his coat and carried her out of the hospital. His heart bled, spilling everywhere. He recalled the words of the doctor in the hospital: severe malnutrition, anemia, and excessive fatigue were enough to claim that child’s life. Then today, that damned woman pushed, completely shattering his hope. Cold blood surged through his body, as if it was about to turn his veins to ice, while the fury in his heart burned like the unquenchable inferno, growing ever hotter. This torment between ice and fire made him want to kill; he wanted to kill all these damned annoying people.
He wasn’t joking, the chilly voice seemed mixed with icy daggers, sharp and cutting, flew over — swoosh, swoosh, swoosh...
"Can’t joke? Then let’s not. Big brother, how was the taste of that woman? Not bad, right? Seems like our tastes are becoming more similar..." Luis Hughes chuckled evilly. He wanted to try everything of Joshua Hughes, and now he wanted to challenge Joshua’s limits, he wanted to move his women, just like his father eventually married Joshua’s mother. The entanglement between their brothers should have existed in a previous life, destined to fight each other throughout this life until the last moment.
Luis shrugged his shoulders, stood up from the swivel chair, and as he passed by Joshua, he said softly: "That position isn’t bad, I like it." The intent was clear without any need for further explanation; he wanted that position.
A hint of slate flashed across Joshua’s handsome face, his whole aura reaching the coldest point, speaking with strong dominance: "Liking and being able to sit securely are two different matters. You should weigh your worth properly. If you want to sit, you need to ask me if I agree. If there are things I don’t want to give, do you think you’ll have even the slightest chance?" Such sharp and direct words pierced into Luis Hughes’s heart like an arrow.
"Your tone is quite arrogant, are you saying I’m not as good as you?" The gloomy voice was wrapped in a storm; his greatest hatred in life was being inferior to Joshua. This was his Achilles heel.
"Now you can get out..." Joshua frankly disregarded, his face was ashen, cold enough to be intimidating, and his authoritative words were irresistibly commanding. He pressed the communication button on the desk with slender fingers, letting Julian Carter come in; there were matters he couldn’t wait on any longer.
"You..." Luis Hughes was almost breathless with anger, Joshua’s face was dreadfully ominous, and for a moment, he couldn’t think of anything to retort. But just another ten days, if he could endure the ten days. He gritted his teeth and walked out of the office, brushing shoulders with Julian Carter as he entered.
"I merely wanted him to first try sitting here, after all, he’s been thinking about it for so many years." Julian Carter spoke expressionlessly. Luis Hughes was indeed unsatisfying, coming to Joshua for a reprimand, shouldn’t he comply? Well, of course, he let him in, seeing someone self-absorbed in trouble is pleasing. Anyway, there were no important documents in Joshua’s office anymore, he had tidied all that before.
"I didn’t know your heart could be so kind." Joshua coldly dropped a line, standing by the massive floor-to-ceiling glass window, gazing at everything outside.
He had been here for ten years, finally everything was nearing its end. Ten years ago, he kept thinking that when he ended Hughes Clan with his own hands, a brand new Hughes would emerge, replacing it. More admirable than before, but now he simply wanted to end it all, then find the woman he loved most, beg for her forgiveness, and spend his life with her. This was his dream, and undoubtedly he could achieve it. Clenching his fist tightly, with a resolute gaze, the progression of things over the past ten years was almost as he planned, but Avery Jane was the only unexpected factor, so sudden, like a purest, most beautiful, and merciful flower blooming in a dark swamp, igniting his yearning.
