Chapter 152: Chapter 152: Are We Still Bros or Not?

I knew Jay Monroe was a big shot, but I didn’t expect his background was way beyond what we imagined.

[Heh... Renee actually wanted to introduce her to a sugar mommy? The rich ladies wouldn’t even know what price to start with.]

[Well, you can’t blame Renee, after all, it’s Jay Monroe who keeps pestering her.]

[Um... are you sure when Jay Monroe said, ’...then I’ll never let you go for the rest of my life,’ he wasn’t putting a hit out on her?]

The others all fell silent. You don’t need to elaborate about a boss’s temperament, and this guess was honestly not far from the truth.

...

As Renee Morgan’s gunfire rang out in Team Red’s building area, the Red commander quickly called Hugh back.

Hugh was unwilling, but he didn’t have many men; if he clashed head-on with Team Blue’s main force, he’d definitely lose out.

Renee Morgan’s squad wiped out their customs team and even pushed near the Red building area. He had to go back to catch the intruders, otherwise the commander would be pissed at him.

Renee and Dane sneaked into the patrol circle, while Bama’s group of four was holding the outer perimeter, drawing some of the firepower.

As Hugh led his squad back, they happened to pass right by Bama’s position. Bama quickly pulled out his comms and called,

"Dalton, Morgan, southwest direction, a big squad of more than twenty—want to retreat?" Bama was holding the comms, tone full of anxiety.

Southwest?

That seemed to be where their main camp was set up.

Dane turned and exchanged a look with Renee Morgan; with a nod, they spoke almost in unison: "Let’s go."

Bama let out a secret sigh of relief, but then felt something was off about their tone—why did it sound so murderous?

No way, right...

Before Bama could say anything else, Dane decisively cut the comms. Renee’s mic was still on, and he could hear the two discussing heading southwest by that route...

Wait a second...

What are those two up to?

They couldn’t possibly...

Bama nearly screamed, quickly keyed in Jay Monroe’s number, linked up with Jay and told him what was happening, along with his wild guess.

He spoke, almost in tears: "Monroe, you think those two are actually gonna intercept that squad? Over twenty people, that’s way too dangerous..."

Jay Monroe: "What do you think?"

Bama played along smoothly: "Well, I figured, Monroe, you’re the one who’s most familiar with Morgan. You know best what she’s like."

Jay Monroe: "..."

What is she like?

Looks like a fairy, but wanted to set him up with a rich lady—never judge a book by its cover.

Suddenly, Bama remembered something, smacked the back of his head with a slap, looking just like a dad who’s upset his precious daughter was led astray: "Morgan is such a good kid, loyal, tough, never uses her looks to bully people. It’s Dalton and you, Monroe, who’ve led her astray..."

Jay Monroe couldn’t listen anymore and coldly interrupted: "Bama, from now on, you sit at the kids’ table at meals."

Bama: "Huh?"

"Blockhead!" Jay Monroe whipped out his comms ready to hang up, face full of disdain, ranting at his mic: "How could we possibly lead Morgan astray?

She’s the real boss!!

If you can’t see that, you’d better wait till the day she introduces you to a sugar mommy—then you’ll know how thoroughly you’ve been conned."

Bama: "!!!"

He seemed to have accidentally uncovered a bombshell secret!

For a moment, Bama didn’t even care about stopping Dane and Renee Morgan anymore.

He grabbed his comms and linked up with Boland, Hart, and Vance all at once.

The three looked puzzled—wasn’t Bama supposed to contact Dane and Renee, warn them the situation was dire, get them to pull out?

Before they could ask, Bama pulled Jay Monroe into the call as well.

Beep!

Jay Monroe knew Bama would call him again. He stood with arms folded, all his weight leaning lazily against a tree, "Bama, stop trying to talk sense into Morgan and Dane. They’re just two maniacs..."

Even if they took people over there now, it’d be too late.

Bama hurried to speak before he cut the line: "No, no, Monroe, that’s not it."

Jay Monroe frowned, straightened up, and said seriously, "What else is there?"

Bama glanced around, made sure there were no red patrols about, then ducked into the shrubs ahead. The young man’s world-weary face was vaguely excited: "Monroe, just now, did you say Morgan tried to set you up with a sugar mommy?"

Boland, Hart, Vance: "..."

The three of them were squatting together, exchanging looks.

Surprisingly, even usually chill Jay Monroe lost it: "What the... Bama, are you stupid?

I only told you to sit with the kids, that’s not an insult.

Why don’t you understand what I’m saying?

I’m saying, is the sugar mommy the point? Isn’t the point that Morgan is two-faced?"

Bama: "Right, right, Monroe, you’re totally correct, your criticism is spot-on. I totally accept that, but... I just wanted to know, is it true...?"

Jay Monroe was acting like someone had stepped on his tail—must mean it’s true.

Before Jay could roast him for being crazy, the other three—Hart, Boland, Vance—chimed in at the same time.

Hart: "Monroe, Bama is just a kid. Don’t be fooled by his old-man face, there’s a lot he hasn’t...er...explored yet.

He doesn’t know a thing.

I’m different, though. I graduated long ago.

So... did Morgan really set you up with a sugar mommy?"

Boland: "Bama, you don’t know anything, always putting Monroe in an awkward spot.

If you want to ask something, just let us bros do the talking, okay?

Monroe, don’t keep us hanging—tell your bros the truth. What price did the lady offer?"

Vance is usually the quiet one, rarely standing out. Usually follows Dane or Jay Monroe.

Now, surprisingly, he spoke up: "Monroe, I may be younger than Bama, but I have a lot more experience. No need for me to sit with the kids.

I’m not handsome, but it’s what’s inside that counts.

Monroe, would you consider the sugar mommy?"

Jay Monroe finally blew up: "How would I know? Do I look like that kind of person to you?"

Bama: "Mmhm, although Monroe definitely has what it takes to be a kept man, he’s not that kind of guy."

Boland: "You at the kids’ table, just keep your mouth shut. What’s with this ’kept man’ talk? We earn every penny the hard way."

Hart and Vance nodded in unison: "Exactly, we’re grinding hard, earning it with sweat and blood."

Jay Monroe: "&#@%#@!"

Hart, Boland, and Vance stared at the line, now angrily cut off, exchanging glances in silence.

After a while, Boland pushed his hair back in a thinking man’s pose, sighing: "Let’s not ask Monroe about this anymore, his pride can’t take it."

Hart nodded along: "It’s all Bama’s fault. He should’ve told us in private, then we could’ve asked Monroe ourselves."

Jay Monroe wouldn’t have gotten so mad like this.

Vance: "Maybe Bama was just too excited."

Suddenly Boland stood up: "No, we have to go find Morgan."
