Chapter 656 - 7: Elimination
BANG...
The sound of a gunshot echoed through the area.
Kenwa glanced at the sky. Seeing the figure still circling high above, he couldn’t help but curse under his breath.
Although he had mastered Spear Technique in the military, his combat style leaned toward melee. And since true Third Limit masters were difficult to kill from a distance with a gun, he hadn’t put much effort into it.
The target in the sky wasn’t a stationary bullseye, either—it was moving fast, and the wind blowing in from the sea was strong. With his Spear Technique, he had almost no chance of hitting it.
At that moment, the others looked over, their eyes asking if he wanted them to take down the target in the sky.
But he didn’t respond.
This was a port. A single gunshot could be overlooked, but continuous gunfire would definitely bring security running. He wasn’t afraid of them, but it would mean having to relocate.
This was a pretty good spot, and he didn’t want to move again anytime soon.
Chen Chuan sat in his car, observing the situation below through the eyes of Chaoming, his Domain Creature. The port was huge and crowded, making it difficult to find his target.
He was currently waiting for a telegram from Specialist Cao. Once a specific area was confirmed, he could narrow the search. As long as he got there in person and released his Domain or Spiritual Power, he would be able to pinpoint the target’s location.
Just then, he heard a gunshot. The sound came through Chaoming’s Realm Token, and from the sound of it, the shot had been aimed at Chaoming.
He immediately had the Domain Creature adjust its position. The view on the Realm Token suddenly zoomed in, revealing the area where the shot had likely originated.
This was a technology from the Wing Blade Company, originally designed to be equipped on flying combat creatures to track enemies. It was perfect for this situation.
Through the magnified view, he saw a group of people gathered below, with a man sitting in the middle who had just put down a gun.
Even though there was no active Consciousness Body here for comparison, he confirmed the target the instant he saw the man.
Judging by the location of that area, it was less than four kilometers away from him.
Chen Chuan got out of the car and gave an order to Yu Xiao through the Realm Token. The latter understood immediately, gathered a small team, and drove an armored vehicle toward the port authority office.
For Kenwa to be able to stay inside the port with a group of armed men without anyone checking on them, either there was a problem with the port personnel, or he was being protected by someone from above.
Since the pardon had already been issued, the latter possibility was highly likely.
He didn’t need their cooperation for his operation; he just needed them not to cause any trouble.
He glanced at the black dot circling in the sky and started walking in that direction.
Inside the container yard, Kenwa was lying down with his hands behind his head. He watched the black shadow that refused to leave, feeling like the bird had locked onto his position because of that last shot.
It made him inexplicably irritated.
If he had one of the special Javelins from his homeland with him, he was confident he could skewer it with one throw, even from this distance. Those Javelins were designed specifically for piercing flying birds.
In his homeland, the ancient First People would train certain animals to observe and monitor their enemies. But as the First People dwindled in number, few who mastered this skill remained.
As this thought crossed his mind, he suddenly realized something. His pupils constricted, and he shot up from the ground, shouting, "On guard!"
All the gunmen around him were crack shots he’d brought from the Lynx Federation, veterans retired from the military. Most of them, like him, were of mixed First People heritage. They had superb military discipline and were equipped with advanced Combat Implants. At his command, everyone instantly snapped into a state of readiness.
They didn’t know where the enemy was, but this location hadn’t been chosen at random. There were only two accessible entrances. As long as they blocked them, no one could get in quickly. They had lookouts posted in high places who could spot anyone approaching.
Kenwa picked up his weapon: a Long Staff with a huge steel ball attached to the end. It was the famous Hammer Ball Stick of the First People.
Just then, a chilling sensation washed over him. He didn’t see anything, but he felt an extreme sense of danger. The thing inside his body was warning him.
As it did, the tentacles outside his body tensed one by one, and he entered a state of high alert.
But at that moment, his mind suddenly buzzed, and a wave of dizziness hit him, causing him to stagger. He then saw a lookout stationed on high slump to the side and fall from a height of over six meters, hitting the ground with a solid THUD.
It wasn’t just him. In the distance, one after another, he heard the sounds of bodies and guns falling. Within a single breath, all the gunmen he had brought with him had lost consciousness and collapsed.
He shook his head hard. A cool sensation instantly shot up his spine and into his brain, snapping him back to his senses.
Clear footsteps approached from the distance. He looked up to see a young man in casual clothes walking toward him. The man wore the standard-issue overcoat of the Processing Bureau, unfastened. His steps were unhurried, his expression calm.
Kenwa stared intently at the newcomer, gripping his Hammer Ball Stick tightly.
He had smashed countless bodies with this weapon, but right now, it brought him no sense of security at all.
What had just hit him must have been some kind of Spiritual Power. He knew all too well that he was no match for someone who wielded such power.
He was filled with a mixture of shock, anger, and fear. He had never expected to encounter a Fighter of this caliber before he even reached Central City.
This should have been impossible. People like this were always in Central City, protecting dignitaries or securing important areas. How could one possibly show up at a port in this Edge City?
’Did he come specifically for me?’
’That’s a joke. There’s no need, no reason at all to deploy such a master for someone like me.’
’What the fuck is going on?’
Chen Chuan walked into the open space and looked at Kenwa. He reached into his pocket, took out Kenwa’s wanted poster, unfolded it, and waved it at the man, asking in a casual tone:
"This is you, right?"
At that moment, any lingering hope Kenwa had vanished. Driven by immense fear and the will to survive, he let out a furious roar as his External Implant immediately injected his body with a massive dose of potential-unleashing and explosive-power drugs.
BOOM! The ground beneath his feet exploded. He leaped up, using the momentum to swing his Hammer Ball Stick upward and then violently forward. The huge steel ball at its end came whistling down toward Chen Chuan!
Kenwa’s leaping figure was reflected in Chen Chuan’s eyes. Although his opponent’s aura was intimidating and he had unleashed immense Power in an instant, the movement looked incredibly slow to him.
Watching the steel ball get closer and closer, just as it was about to land in front of him, he finally let go of the wanted poster. He reached up, pressed his hand against the steel ball, and gently deflected it outward.
In an instant, a powerful pulling force took hold, guiding the weapon to his back and side. The force that was meant to smash downward was abruptly converted into a force that yanked forward.
He had made his move at the exact moment Kenwa’s Power erupted. All the Mutated Organization and muscle in Kenwa’s body were in a state of extreme tension. Although the drugs enhanced his strength, they also made it impossible for him to fully control its application. So when the steel ball was redirected, it immediately dragged his entire body forward, and for a moment, he couldn’t pull back.
Chen Chuan watched calmly as Kenwa was pulled toward him. With a swift motion, he lifted his leg and kicked him in the skull, instantly pouring Heart Force into it.
BANG! Kenwa’s head instantly exploded in mid-air, spraying brain matter and blood everywhere. A single drop of bloody fluid flew toward him.
Chen Chuan’s raised hand hadn’t fallen yet. With a simple pinch of two fingers, he caught it less than half a foot from his face.
Now it was clear to see. It wasn’t just bloody fluid, but a short, thick worm, writhing ceaselessly after being caught.
Even he could feel the powerful struggles coming from it. At the same time, he saw his Second Self begin to flicker and turn ethereal.
He watched it for a moment, then squeezed his fingers. With a SQUISH, he crushed it.
Only then did Kenwa’s headless corpse fall limply from the air, thudding onto the ground. The wanted poster, fluttering down, landed among the scattered pieces of his brain.
Seeing that the target had been eliminated, Chen Chuan was about to contact his backup to handle the aftermath. But just as his hand touched the Realm Token, his gaze flickered.
’Something’s wrong...’
’That thing just now... it came at me on its own, almost as if it was afraid I wouldn’t notice it.’
He lowered his hand and slowly walked over to the corpse. After watching it for a moment, he lifted his foot to stomp on it. In that same instant, Kenwa’s spine suddenly arched, as if something was about to burst out from within.
But before it could fully emerge, his foot came down. CRACK! Under the impact of two forces, one from within and one from without, Kenwa’s corpse exploded. A twisted, worm-like creature was revealed inside.
It had a segmented body, with long, thin tendrils on its periphery, all dripping with residual flesh and blood.
It seemed Kenwa had used this thing to completely replace his own spine, while its dense limbs on either side connected to the rest of his body.
The moment this creature was exposed, his Second Self showed even stronger signs of turning ethereal. At the same time, faint, unintelligible whispers emanated from it, as if trying to infect and bewitch him.
Chen Chuan’s expression remained unchanged. He stomped down hard, driving it directly into the flagstones. With a SPLAT, the creature exploded into a bloody mist, and a pool of thick, dark red blood spread out beneath his foot.
