Chapter 770 - 121: Breaching the Camp

  • Next Chapter

Upon spotting the figure, several fixed machine guns inside the monitored area immediately opened fire, RAT-TAT-TAT-TAT.

But the bullets simply bounced off the figure, falling to the ground with a series of CLINKs and CLANKs.

The figure didn’t seem to make any major movements, just a slight wave of the hand, and then several machine gunners—equipped with Spiritual Protection and clad head-to-toe in heavy Protective Clothing—all shuddered as their heads instantly exploded.

The machine-gun fire in the area stopped immediately, with only the echoes still reverberating.

However, any security personnel qualified to use Spiritual Protection were elites. Well-trained, they didn’t stop their assault just because the machine guns fell silent. They all drew their sidearms and continued firing, filling the hall with an overlapping cacophony of gunfire.

In the blink of an eye, the figure suddenly vanished from the entrance. The next moment, the security personnel felt their bodies being lifted into the air. It wasn’t just them; every armed person in the space was sent flying.

Chen Chuan stopped. His outer coat and scarf whipped forward violently. The instant he halted, the surrounding metal walls began to bulge and vibrate with a deafening RUMBLE. Behind him, the security guards who had been sent flying into the air fell to the ground one by one.

He hadn’t done anything special. He had simply charged toward the crowd at extreme speed. The sheer force of his passage had been enough to send everyone in his path flying.

After the sound of bodies hitting the floor behind him faded and silence returned, he looked ahead. It was a three-story building, but most of the personnel were not on the surface; they were in the underground levels.

He slowly walked down the metal staircase. Just as he reached a corner, armed security personnel on both sides, who had already taken combat stimulants, spun around abruptly, trying to activate the Flamethrowers in their hands.

But their movements were far too slow. Every action was within the range of his perception and his Domain. As the corridor filled with a torrent of searing flame, his figure seemed to flicker, and he was already behind one of them.

He slapped the back of the man’s head with a small stone he held in his palm. Instantly, the heads of both this man and the one behind him exploded along the same trajectory. As they collapsed, the Flamethrower continued to spew fire upward for a few more moments.

He paid it no mind and continued to the next level. As soon as he pushed open the door, he was greeted by the sight of a small-caliber cannon pointed directly at him. With a BOOM, it belched a flash of fire, the force of the blast even causing the cannon to jump off the floor.

But it was the same story. The weapon was large but useless against him. In Chen Chuan’s perception, everyone’s movements were abnormally slow. Before the cannon’s muzzle had even begun to recoil, he was already at the gunner’s side. With a single punch, he slammed the cannon, which had just started to leap up, back down. With a resounding CRASH, both the gunner and the cannon were twisted into a mangled heap and embedded in the reinforced floor below.

When the echoes of the crash faded, the entire underground level fell silent. He glanced around and saw an open metal shaft not far away, with a vertical metal ladder leading further down.

Renou was currently hiding on the lowest level of the underground complex. It was also the largest floor in the entire area, converted from what was originally an insectoid nest.

He knew an enemy like Chen Chuan was impossible to confront directly, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t be dealt with. On this very level, right beneath his feet, a massive amount of high explosives lay buried.

He stared upward, his hand gripping a push-lever detonator. The moment Chen Chuan came after him, he would detonate the explosives and blow the entire area to smithereens. Not even a Third Limit Fighter could withstand such a blast. Even if it didn’t kill them instantly, there wouldn’t be much left of them.

Of course, he had no desire to die with Chen Chuan. That was why he was standing in a fully-shielded safe room and had already injected himself with a restorative drug. With the protection of the room and his own Fighter’s constitution, there was a small chance he might survive the aftermath.

Chen Chuan had reached the mouth of the stairwell. He glanced at his Realm Token; it showed about ten people below, all of whom seemed extremely tense. But as he reached this point, his senses screamed a warning.

His eyes flickered. He didn’t go down. Instead, he turned, left the monitoring area, and pulled the access doors shut behind him.

Once outside, he looked around and easily found a large quantity of algal oil stored in a secure warehouse. There was also a transport vehicle nearby. He simply loaded the algal oil onto the vehicle, drove around the camp, and at every key location, he opened the barrels and poured out the contents.

After making a full circle, he decided it was enough. He first collected the gun cores, then ignited the algal oil. Before long, the entire camp was engulfed in a raging inferno, with thick black smoke billowing into the sky.

Outside the camp, Yang Yuncheng had watched the entire event unfold from a hillside. Seeing Chen Chuan move through the base as if it were empty, single-handedly turning it upside down, made his blood boil with excitement. Now, seeing Chen Chuan set the camp ablaze, he could no longer stay put. He immediately descended the slope and rushed toward the camp.

Meanwhile, in the basement, Renou waited for a long time, but Chen Chuan never came down. The surrounding temperature, however, kept rising. He finally sensed something was wrong. He ran out of the safe room and used a periscope to check the surface. The sight of the raging fire made his heart sink.

He had a sudden, sad realization: hiding down here was useless. Chen Chuan didn’t need to come in at all; he just had to start a fire outside.

There were many generator sets outside, all running on algal oil. And because they needed fuel to incinerate the endless swarms of insects, there was plenty of extra algal oil piled up, enough to burn the entire area—including his current location—to the ground.

If he stayed here, he would just be waiting to die.

But rushing out to fight Chen Chuan was meaningless. It would just be throwing his life away.

In his despair, he returned to the safe room and pushed down the detonation lever.

BOOM! A massive explosion ripped through the entire monitoring area. The shockwave was so powerful it launched the roof panels hundreds of meters into the air.

Yang Yuncheng had just run into the camp when he heard the sudden blast. His head rang, and the trembling ground nearly made him lose his footing. He shook his head hard and took a moment to recover.

On a high platform far away, which offered a good vantage point, Chen Chuan looked up at the billowing black smoke. He then glanced at his Realm Token. The life signatures of the last few people had completely vanished.

At that moment, a series of secondary explosions rocked the camp’s surroundings. The fire must have ignited other explosives stored elsewhere.

With a deafening groan, the tall mooring tower used for Airships slowly tilted to one side before collapsing in a blaze of fire.

He stood on the high platform, holding the Snow Monarch Blade. The raging flames reflected in his jade-like mask, and the light and swirling air currents made his coat and scarf flutter endlessly.

This was the scene that greeted Yang Yuncheng when he arrived, and he was completely stunned.

Chen Chuan saw him, reached up to remove his protective mask, and asked, "Elder Yang, what are you doing here?"

Yang Yuncheng gazed around excitedly. To be honest, he never imagined that Chen Chuan could destroy the entire camp all by himself.

If Chen Chuan had told him beforehand, he absolutely would not have believed it.

But now, with the reality laid out before him, he still felt a sense of disbelief, needing to repeatedly look at the surrounding devastation to confirm it was real.

He tried to compose himself, but his voice was still thick with excitement. "Manager Chen, I saw you from up there. I came to see if you needed help, but I guess that’s not necessary anymore. You’ve destroyed this camp. Your mission was to destroy it, right? You’ve succeeded!"

Chen Chuan shook his head. "No, not yet."

Yang Yuncheng paused. "Not yet?"

Chen Chuan glanced at the dense forest in the distance. "This is just a rear base. Their main force isn’t here. They should be deep in the Merging Land, competing for that Lost Object. They are my true target."

Yang Yuncheng nodded slowly. ’It seems my guess was too conservative.’ But given the power Chen Chuan had displayed, this seemed only natural. Still, he couldn’t help but ask, "Manager Chen, are you alone? Is there no one coming to back you up?"

Chen Chuan said, "My colleague came here earlier. I am the backup."

"Oh, I see..."

Yang Yuncheng thought for a moment, then said seriously, "Manager Chen, I assume your next step is to head deeper into the unknown region?"

Chen Chuan nodded.

Yang Yuncheng looked toward the outskirts of the camp and said earnestly, "Manager Chen, there are still a number of enemy watchtowers from the camp back there. Please, you rest. Leave those men to me. I’ll take care of them."

Chen Chuan wasn’t tired, nor had he expended much energy. But he understood that as a former soldier, Yang Yuncheng couldn’t stand by and do nothing while a comrade fought on the front lines.

After all, Yang Yuncheng was a former member of the Pioneer Team. Dealing with the remaining sentries would be no problem for him, so Chen Chuan didn’t refuse.

"Old Yang, I’ll leave it to you, then."

Yang Yuncheng nodded firmly. "Leave it to me." He then turned and charged out. A gust of wind from the fire blew back his hood, revealing a head of graying hair. But his one remaining eye was exceptionally resolute, and his charging figure remained as decisive and valiant as ever.

Meanwhile, the Airship that had fled the camp flew for an entire afternoon before finally reaching the nearest rear communication point. From there, an urgent telegram was sent to the headquarters of the Federation delegation and the Lynx Federation diplomatic team.
