CEO's Reborn Wife

Chapter 2710 - 2728: Just You Wait

  • Next Chapter

Emily arrived today, just as Thomas was busy in the study, while Yvette sat playing with her mobile phone to keep him company while he worked.

An Aunt came by the house, saying Emily was here to see Thomas when Yvette angrily slammed her mobile phone onto the tabletop and glared fiercely at Thomas.

"Why are you looking at me like that? She came to see me; it’s not like I asked her to," Thomas said, wearing a helpless expression before turning to ask the Aunt, "You didn’t mention I was here, right?"

The Aunt shook her head, "Miss Emily just asked if there was anyone at my home, and I said there was, then let her wait at the doorway; I didn’t mention that Madam and mister were both at home."

"Go down and wave her off, just say I’m not here," Thomas nudged Yvette, "Go quickly, don’t just stand here glaring at me—it’s useless. Your glare won’t make her leave. James already called before she came and told me not to meddle in this matter."

"She’s not my cousin; why should I be the one to wave her off and play the bad guy?" Yvette sat there, unmoving. "Handle your own affairs; even a three-year-old knows that, don’t you know?"

Thomas was short of breath.

"Yvette, alright, just you wait." Thomas put down the pen in his hand, and as he passed by Yvette’s side, in irritation, he reached out to pinch her face. "Remember today when you ask me for help next time."

"Thomas, don’t try to be harsh with me; it’s useless. If you don’t help me, I can hit you, but you can’t hit me." Yvette finished speaking and got up to follow Thomas out of the study.

Thomas turned his head, "Why are you following me out?"

"To see the scene unfold," Yvette stated honestly, "I need to narrate the scene later to little Jane."

"You women..." Thomas shook his head, at a loss, and could only let Yvette follow him down the building.

Once Emily entered the door, Aunt went to the kitchen to pour tea for Thomas, as Yvette sat beside him, smiling a bit artificially.

Seeing Emily’s face filled with a troubled expression, Thomas said, "I know why you came to me today, but I can’t help you. James has stated beforehand that no one should help you, so reaching out to any of our childhood friends won’t change anything."

"He..." Emily’s eye base could hardly conceal the shock and sadness. "He won’t let you help me?"

"You bullied his wife. Would he let anyone help you? James is fiercely protective; have you only discovered this today? Even if James hadn’t said anything, there’s still the Black Family and the Carter Family. When you did these things, did you never consider the consequences?" Thomas countered.

Emily had thought about many consequences and devised numerous strategies, believing she could achieve her goal impeccably; yet, she hadn’t anticipated such unexpected circumstances.

"James and Jane are merely childhood betrothal partners; it’s a marriage contract set by the older generation. Everyone says James and Jane share a deep affection, but I don’t really buy it." Emily relaxed her tightly-clenched fist beside her leg. "I was just considering that at least we went to school together; for such a small matter, he wouldn’t be so heartless."

"Schoolmates? You call that going to school together with him? Then everyone in the school is schoolmates with James," Yvette scoffed. "If James and Jane’s feelings aren’t strong, then whose feelings are they strong with? Yours, as a schoolmate?"

At this point, Yvette’s mind suddenly swirled with thoughts, her gaze darkened suddenly.

"Emily, I heard the Edwards Family canceled their marriage contract with you." Yvette asked, "Is that true?"
