"If that’s truly the case, then Jasmine, Amber, and I are the only ones who have seen them. If so, James wasn’t just trying to scare us when he said we’re in danger."

After speaking, Jane Sampson looked at Brooke Black and asked, "Is it like I guessed?"

Brooke Black nodded, thought for a moment, then shook her head.

"Not entirely," Brooke said, "If James hadn’t come out from the base himself, I wouldn’t have thought about the matters from over two years ago. But now that James personally called, it reminded me of the previous incidents."

"The previous incidents?" Oscar Wilson sat down next to them and asked, "What happened?"

He was all ready to listen to a story.

"In the past, when James attended this auction event, he bid on that vase. Probably due to his occupational instincts, he was observing all around at the auction venue and indeed found something unusual. After he bid on the vase, he directly caught a gang specializing in stealing auction items right there at the venue."

Brooke said, "It was quite a coincidence. The gang had targeted the vase that James bid on and another painting. When James caught them, they had already succeeded with the painting. They were caught red-handed by James while stealing the vase."

"The members of the gang were tight-lipped. To this day, no one knows how many members the gang had. Those who were caught steadfastly refused to betray their accomplices. Back then, James suspected that the gang still had core members who hadn’t been caught. The arrested members would rather spend more years in prison than speak, leaving everyone at a loss."

After finishing, Brooke looked at Oscar, "I’ve said all this; have you guessed it too? Isn’t this method particularly like the theft case from those years?"

"The gang from those years came from a single village, a clan village with the same family name. According to investigations, over eighty percent of the people in that village were involved in theft or fraud nationwide. It was a notorious hooligan village where the children rarely studied and were taught from an early age about methods of theft and fraud. They lived by scamming and stealing money and took pride in making a lot of money through these means."

"If someone from the village got caught, the leader who took them out on jobs would take care of their family, children, parents, and wife until they were released from prison, and then take them back to work again. This ensured that even if someone got caught, they had no worries about their family, so they wouldn’t betray others."

"Theft isn’t punishable by death. To them, not getting caught means making money. If they do get caught, it’s no big deal—just spend a few years in prison. In any case, there’s someone back home to look after their wives, kids, and elderly parents."

"Hearing Aunt Black talk about this, I remembered what a friend of mine mentioned before. I suspect the people he talked about are from the same place as those Aunt Black mentioned," Oscar nodded in agreement, "In this world, there are indeed some people’s thoughts we can’t comprehend."

"It’s indeed bewildering," Jane Sampson was stunned, "It’s like a bizarre tale of this world."

"However, these things truly exist in our lives. A buddy of mine was scammed out of money for various reasons but later found out."
