Chaos Devourer System: My Classless Ascension
Chapter 547 - 545:Fufufufufu…
Chapter 547: Chapter 545:Fufufufufu...
"So... you’re the thing standing between me and my parents, huh?" I muttered quietly, staring up at the magnificent tree.
Just arriving at the base of this thing took longer than it had taken us to arrive at the border of the Eruvine family’s galactic cluster.
Yes, the distance was that ridiculously long, despite looking but a stone’s throw away.
Yet, all of that couldn’t compare to the feeling of finally arriving here.
The size of this thing from afar was already overwhelming, but that was nothing compared to what it felt like standing before it.
When people spoke of things reaching the very heavens, I’d think they were talking about something like this.
It didn’t even look like I was standing before a trunk; no, it looked like I was before a peerless mountain whose width spread for eternity.
From the left to the right, the tree’s limits couldn’t be found.
From the bottom, you couldn’t even get a view of the countless branches up above, as all one saw was blinding verdant radiance.
It took a lot for something to make me feel small—size-wise, that is—but this thing had accomplished that in spades.
I didn’t doubt the fact that this thing could span the length of an entire galaxy just by its lonesome, and that wasn’t accounting for the myriad branches that stretched across the entirety of Prime.
"Hmmm... it’s erratic." Placing my palm on the tree’s trunk, I could feel a flow out of sync, almost as though the tree was having some difficulty.
"It’s Death’s absence. Even though your grandpas are now acting as substitute wayfarers, their role is different. They bring forth the end. An absolute conclusion, whereas Death should be more of a transition to finality. The breaking point between transitioning and finality itself is what’s affecting the Lifetree, but it should still do just fine," Shaia assured.
"And you’re sure this thing can do it?" I asked, still skeptical.
"It’s our safest bet. Unless you wish to force it. But even then, your existence level won’t allow it."
I went silent.
My existence level.
Even when fused with Elira, Shaia had said it wouldn’t be enough.
One would wonder what was so different about my parents’ deaths that I couldn’t just deny them back to life.
I had been returning things back to life by messing with time all this while—fixing up galaxies destroyed by my friends during their spars with a snap of the finger—yet now, I couldn’t do the same for my parents.
Despite stacking Devouring, Denial, and Oblivion, I still couldn’t bring them back.
I couldn’t Deny the reality of their deaths.
I couldn’t Devour the concept of their passing.
I couldn’t send to Oblivion the timeline where they perished and force them back.
I couldn’t do any of that. Despite all my powers, I was helpless where it mattered most.
And that was because of my damned existence level.
See, Father’s death wasn’t like any other death out there; if it were, I wouldn’t have gone through all these troubles.
No, Father had died using an ability granted by the remnant fragments of my power that Shaia had placed inside of him before she went unconscious: "Return to origin."
It was an ability that was supposed to take someone back to his or her origins.
Shaia had reasoned that the power manifested as such due to Dad’s strong soul.
It was an ability without a way to defend against, as the moment it’s used, whomever the caster wishes it upon will be taken with him back toward the origin of their fate.
Father should’ve returned to the Lifetree of Prime. Even if not Prime, he should’ve returned to the jurisdiction of this cosmos’s Lifetree.
But that’s where my dilemma comes from.
The ability Father used wasn’t something natural; no, it was something birthed from the remnant power of chaos itself. When he returned to origin, he didn’t return to anything within this creation, for those weren’t the origin of his ability.
He had instead returned to the expanse. To infinity. To Chaos’s grasp.
That was why I couldn’t get to him with Denial, or Devouring, or any of my abilities, because Father and Mother’s existences weren’t in the hands of anything I could contend with right now; they were in the hands of the Anchor.
One of the few manifestations of Chaos that had no antithesis, no chaos form—it was just it.
They were called the Administrators. Existences whose influence spread through the myriad creations of the myriad chaos manifestations within the expanse.
Beings like Fate, Causality, Destiny, Samsara... Anchor was one of such beings, and it was an Elder Manifestation.
"Damn it..."
I had been trying to put it out of my mind. Trying not to think about it, but—
"Weak!"
Even now. Even after awakening. Even after becoming the most powerful being within this realm of creation. Even with all the authority, all the power, all the potential, I was still—
"Useless!!"
If not for my weakness, why would I be here, standing before a useless tree seeking help? Because for the life of me, I couldn’t understand how something so... so WEAK could do something I couldn’t!
Yes, it was massive, but that was only size-wise. I could still exterminate this overgrown tree with a snap of my fingers, and yet it was supposed to be capable of doing something I wasn’t?
"Damn it!!" It was infuriating. Be strong, that’s what I said to myself, yet now, when it mattered the most, I could only try to laugh my inadequacies away, try to hide behind the mask of having fun, try to ignore the looming reality that I was still useless when it mattered the most.
"Damn I—"
"Dante..." Aunt V.
"My love..." Shaia.
"Master..." Elira.
The voices of the three women pulled me from my spiraling thoughts as I opened my eyes slowly.
Their faces were masks of worry and pain.
I looked down; my nails had already dug holes into my palms as black-gold blood dripped down slowly.
"Haa..." I sighed, letting the frustration escape through my nose as I tried to smile. "I’m fine, ladies..." My fists slowly unclenched, the injury to my palms healing up instantly.
"You’re not. But you need to be. You need to be for them. We’ll bring them back. I swear it," Shaia assured.
"Shaia, you—"
The words never left my lips, as before I could get them out—
Craack!
A soft crack resounded through my mind as I felt the stirring of a very familiar aura.
"Fufufufu... now, who got my lovely little husband all upset? Tell me, let your lovely woman take all your pains away, fufufufu..."
